You are right. He did play. It must have been another winger I heard Watmough mention.
Now, who is it? 🤔
You heard it correctly, I'm pretty sure Watmough did say Taufua but I think he meant to say Peta Hiku, who had played fullback in place of Snake in the first 2 finals that year (and had run for something like 300m in that 0-4 loss to the Roosters)

I did like the honesty Choc showed towards DCE in that podcast but he was wrong when talking about how 2013 ended. Wolfman had also scored that freakish try in the prelim to put us in front of Souffs so he was hardly going to be dropped for the GF. Pretty easy for him to say Wolfman should've been dropped in hindsight AFTER he had a shocker in the GF

Thanks. I thought my memory was going 😂
Good to see it's Watmough's instead 😁

Yes. If you listen to Watmough, during the week the senior players did not want Wolfman to play in the GF due to form. They wanted Hiku to play against Tupou.
Tooves said no and the rest is history. Wolfman had a worse game than Hayne and we lost due to him being owned by Tupou.

After this the senior group lost faith in Tooves. Then came the Glenn Stewart debacle.

We mostly lost that Grand Final IMO because our defence turned to water in the final 25 minutes.

There may have been that forward pass on the end of it, but we just let James Maloney stride 30 metres down the middle of the field without a hand being laid on him.

And whether we love Snake or not, fact is he and Wolfman were 100% guilty of ball watching when Michael Jennings scored. Either one could and should have taken the ball over the dead ball line. Neither did, they just watched and hoped.

Despite Shame Hayne's performance (which wasn't flash even before the forward pass), we still led 18–8 with 25 to go. We then let them score 18–0.....

As much as it pains me to say it, the Roosters were a better side in 2013. You could sense that Manly were not quite at the same level they were under Hasler; particularly in the forwards. In the Prelim, we were getting pumped by Souths and they choked. We were good enough and experienced enough to take advantage, but early in the that game, the writing was on the wall.

The final 20 minutes of the GF was a combination of poor refereeing and fatigue from a big final series; something the Roosters did not have to contend with, having the second week off after beating us 4-0 in a gruelling encounter.

I love the 2013 side for its courage and character, but I have always thought they overachieved, rather than missed an opportunity like say 1995.

In saying that, funnily enough the game was ours in the GF. We let the win slip through our fingers. We choked along with being dudded with a forward pass that won the chooks the game in the end
