The Daly Cherrygraph

oh god the one club I would hate to see him play for is the roosters I really hope not !!!!
We get screwed over by them in the 2013 gf and he will go there any maybe win them a premiership that will hurt
I suspect (and it is just the way I have processed what little information I have gleaned from the timing and content of his interview and the general timeline) that Chez has more than one offer on the table and has told the clubs he will let them know at a specific time…

he has likely gone public with this now (without declaring he will ACTUALLY play on) to get the media off his back in the interim - and (possibly) to tell Manly management that he has found a better deal so how do you like those 🍎 🍎 🍎 ?

I have mate who sponsors the Roosters. He tells me that he is going there. This has been happening for a while now.....
This makes sense on the Townsend one year deal then as he was a stop gap for DCE. DCE may have to look for a place in the Eastern suburbs soon as it will not go down well will the local manly faithful he is playing for the rorters and living in God's country still. This all sums up that DCE made a decision that he would not be in the halves coaching ranks in the future for manly but if we see him doing so for the rorters in years to come that will a hard one to swallow. I see this as a good outcome for manly this whole thing and maybe financially it will be good for DCE and his family but it's definitely tarnished the glitter of what DCE has portrayed himself as a manly player and unfortunately that is just a fact. Will be very interesting to see how this is seen by the legends of manly moving forward. Good luck to him and I hope the money is worth it! Thanks for your service. Enjoy the team that has to buy premierships. Fact!

It's weird cause the alternative timeline that isn't based on random **** seems to line up perfectly with Sammy Walker doing his knee. I bet it was a real tough decision for him.

No one's faulting Daly for taking the money, people are pissed he felt the need to throw the club (see: fans) under the bus to get every last dollar. He's already demonstrating to his future employers (Nine) how he can create narratives that get people emotional and drive engagement, and he's using the club that put him where he is to do it. No one is bigger than any club, no one.

He doesn't give a **** about the club and never has, the same spin came out whenever he or the team was scrutinised. -Nike, you're better than this - mod

Anyone laughing or attempting to reappropriate Watmough's comments need to realise he said that 10 years ago and the ink has dried, he was derogatory to the administrators when referring to the club. I can admit I wrote off Watmough as it felt destabilising to the team at the time, but it's pretty clear now why he was angry when he spoke, he probably knew Daly is made of teflon and his conduct did destroy that potential dynasty.

He might've come off looking like a stupid footy player at the time, but to still suggest he was wrong given the benefit of hindsight is unfair. I'd go as far to offer a bet to anyone who thinks Chez cares about Manly more than Choc.

Edit: Roosters still have a LOT of available cap space for 2025, another lucky coincidence I know. **** off now, you're going to anyway.

I wondered about the timing off his interview and why he did what he did so public. I feel he was sending a message " I am leaving Manly" I'm not just trying to drive my price up and then stay. I expect someone has expressed interest that doesn't want to be mucked around.

Quite likely for Manly ] to be playing against D C E " s future team once , [ but no biggie if twice ] for next season and maybe similar in one more after that .
And could even be away from Brookie if it is one occasion but sure that Manly fans would have adjusted regardless with his moving on by then .
What will be will be in terms of his replacement and the range of options in the meantime to find a suitable one .

I have been a big fan of DCE however this leaves a sour taste. There are two sides to the story however the bottom line is he has decided to go. Does not sit well with me. We may never know the true story but DCE is no fool and there is a fine line with putting on too much pressure (by the club) to get an early decision versus giving DCE time and space. It does look like Manly were hoping for a 'better' value salary and after paying $1M+ for circa 10 years this seems reasonable. DCE however clearly needs to look after himself and his family.

What's the bet that a) he goes to the chooks; b) gets valued at $400k in their cap; and c) steps down from origin to focus on club footy.

i love how we all see players as people that should be happy with their lot and never ever want more. what's an average NRL career? 15 years tops? probably more like 8 or 9 then its done. if any of us could honestly say we would be happy with a 50% pay cut at the age of 35 then you are lying or an idiot. Careers can be over in a blink of an eye. look at the yowye bloke from the broncs. Next big thing and snap. gone.
Now obviously DCE is in a different situation but he still has a family and still has bills and 3 kids ti raise. I will be really sad to see him go but this screams of another Manly cockup.
I dont think all is well between DCE and Seibold by the sounds of it and Manly dicking around since December has forced DCEW to get out in front of this publicly.
Difference is their careers can continue afterwards in another field, or still in legue but a different role. In addition, I don’t know how many of us are earning $1ml a year and have been for the past 10 years - not me, sadly.

Ken Arthurson was the epitome of a Manly Man… and his take on Choc was spot on…

Choc took the money and then unloaded on the club - a club he was a life member of at the time…

I loved Choc as a player and Choc is allowed to have his opinions on Chez (and they may be right) but I ain’t listening to an argument that Choc is a great example of someone who showed loyalty to our club… direct quote - “some of those guys hate Manly more than I do”… fair weather friend old choc…

People thinking we are just gonna replace an Origin and Australian standard halfback is deluded…

Makes sense, knowing the Roosters that offer would certainly be under the table.
Yes, this whole thing reeks of the Cooper Cronk situation at Melbourne about 7 seasons back, people were saying he was going to retire and couldn't possibly play against the Storm, but surprise, surprise surprise, the Roosters managed to get their man, as usual.
Perhaps DCE thinks he has a better chance of one more premiership at the Roosters than Manly in his final two years

I do agree with you to some extent but I'll try my best to reword it, in simpler terms.

Choc was a known dickhead, not exactly renowned for his intellectual prowess. He lashed out after watching that team get absolutely dismantled by the circus that was Chez and his backflip. He was resentful towards him personally for not considering the team after confronting him directly, fair enough it's business, but these were the guys who walked so Chez could run.

Given Choc's lack of ability to articulate his feelings in a diplomatic manner which Chez is a master at he did come off looking like a broken, salty player at the time.

10 years later and his words are pretty spot on if you listen and for lack of a better term, hear past his personality. He was never going to eloquently express himself and the situation, I'd equate it with representing yourself in court. In an industry where you can't exactly turn up with receipts to rat on people or you're marked for life Choc was never going to get his point across - it's the footy equivalent of snitching, players have an 'omerta' if you didn't know.

I guess I'm simply saying if we look at exactly what he said, and has kept saying regarding Chez it has certainly lacked nuance however, his crude assessment is fairly accurate if you apply it to what has transpired before and what's happening now.

I don't mean to come off as some pseudo-intellectual so I apologise if it reads like that, text doesn't really convey tone well and I genuinely enjoy your posts and our interactions frank. If you want to hear what he actually said you can find it at this link. Keep in mind this was the interview where he walked in and asked "how controversial?" regarding the conversation, check out what Hello Sport said regarding it at this link. Both of those links will go directly to the specific comments, no need to listen to hours of podcasts 🙂

I'll end my commentary by saying it's interesting to note who is coming out of the woodwork right now and what previously unheard speculation they have had to say about Chez. I think Choc was angry and lashing out because he gave a **** and was genuinely passionate which is why it came off looking really bad.

In hindsight though...

"Game Day is still the best day of my week". It seems he is still enjoys his footy. And so i believe he will continue playing for another year or two. But lets face it, he is getting older, like he's what 37 ?and this is a young man's game. He's giving the club early warning about finding a replacement. He will be difficult to replace, but ultimately he will be replaced.

MWSE and Daly should not part on bitter terms. Neither should the fans boo him at Brooky. He has been loyal and valuable for all these 15 seasons. So many match winning field goals and performances. Which i believe he will continue to make. He has always displayed a professional attitude.

The rudeness and short term thinking i have read above, in this thread, makes me slightly embarrassed about the maturity of some long standing supporters.

It has not been a good week overall with this announcement and the torn Achilles, not withstanding the Raiders game. But MWSE are still in the running for a title and this year is our best shot in quite a while.

Point of difference though

Cooper cronk only played to conserve his body when he was busted
Cronk went to be the man, i suspect DCE is doing a Luke Brooks and is trying to jump out of the drivers seat and into the side car a little

The Jammy bastard is still going to get drivers seat money it seems
Good luck to him , its not my money

Thanks for the complete reply… I understand the perspective that you are presenting with regards to Choc and, as I said, he may be COMPLETELY right about Chez but the thing is that is HIS perspective… others may have completely different opinions of Chez - personalities matter as they impact upon perspective…

I recall Choc from that time when he left Manly and (acknowledging that he may not be the most eloquent fellow) he WAS salty and he stirred up **** and spat Manly out of his mouth way too much… it put me right off him at the time and I have never really come back… but that’s me, my personality and, resultantly, my perspective…

Not saying it’s right, it is my opinion and I think of others well before Choc when I think about loyal Manly stalwarts…

…and please don’t take this personally @Nike as I also like and respect you as a poster bud
