How much is DCE's contract effectively reduced by the 10 year service allowance and the Marquee player allowance ?? PSS .. other clubs would not get the 10 year allowance.

In the NRL, a "marquee player" allowance, as part of the salary cap, allows clubs to allocate a portion of their salary cap to a select group of high-profile players, with a cap of $1.1 million per club.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • What it is:
The NRL salary cap is a limit on how much a club can spend on player salaries, but there are exceptions and allowances, including the marquee player allowance.

  • Purpose:
The marquee player allowance allows clubs to sign and retain top-tier players, enhancing their team's competitiveness and drawing in fans.

  • How it works:
Each club can allocate a portion of their salary cap to a designated number of "marquee players".

  • Salary Cap:
The base salary cap for the top 30 players at each club is $11.25 million, plus an additional $0.3 million for veteran and developed player allowances and $0.1 million for a motor vehicle allowance.

  • Marquee Player Allowance:
The marquee player allowance is an exception to the base salary cap, allowing clubs to spend more on certain players.

  • Current Limit:
The allowance is currently capped at $1.1 million per club.

  • Marquee Player Definition
A marquee player is an athlete who is considered exceptionally popular, skilled, or otherwise outstanding, especially in professional sports.
In 2003, the NRL introduced a "Long Serving Player Allowance" to encourage clubs to retain players who had served a continuous period of ten years in first grade, providing a $100,000 allowance that increased the effective salary cap.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

Purpose:
The Long Serving Player Allowance was designed to incentivize clubs to retain players who had achieved a significant milestone of 10 years of continuous first-grade service.
  • Mechanism:
The allowance added $100,000 to the effective salary cap, allowing clubs to retain these experienced players without exceeding the overall salary cap limits.

A. Manly would have had their 2 highest paid players constantly sitting on the sideline
Foz great player but he suffered chronic injuries for years
Comparing Foz to the Durable DCE who hardly missed a game in his career is absolutely ridiculous

You are off feathered friend @frank stokes

Without laying blame on DCE, the fact of the matter is, Manly has not looked even remotely close to a top 4 side for a decade under his captaincy and with him as our chief playmaker and leader.

I reiterate - in no way do I place Manly's misfortunes solely in his hands. But the fact of the matter is, whilst Manly's investment in Chez may have helped us avoid a wooden spoon at some point (maybe), this team, with or without him, will not genuinely contend for a title any time soon.

You can't win in the NRL if your team can't fkn defend! The fact that the Bulldogs have already become a far stronger team than us illustrates my point. Burton is good but not yet a DCE. Crighton is good, but not a Turbo. These guys aren't the reason why they are now better than us. It's because all 17 guys go out and defend their line like champions.

Does further DCE investment somehow buy us defensive resolve? If not, then let him walk if the guy needs to take another million at this stage in his career. It's not like it will cost us success. The results speak for themselves
Totally agree, we need more grit not attacking “weapons”. Bashing up crap teams is good for morale but no substitute for having the will to defend mistakes and apply pressure without the ball. DCE is a great but is not worth weakening the teams rebuild by extending too far.

All our players need to be Weapons and not Weak in attack or defence

Still unsigned beyond this year, Cherry-Evans has been linked with a number of rival clubs - but Seibold is hopeful Manly will be able to retain the 36-year-old.

[We are happy] if he wants to play on," he said.

"He hasn't made a decision on what he wants to do, so until then everyone needs to take a breath. We have had private discussions that I won't talk about publicly.

"As long as I'm coaching, I would love to have him and he's an integral part of our group.

"He's only got better. His performances over the last few years have been outstanding."

Cherry-Evans is reportedly looking for an extension, but would potentially need to take a pay-cut to remain on the Northern Beaches.

Just his management driving his price up yet again.
DCE is still up there with the Rare Elite halfbacks in the game and his management know this and are confident of him being rewarded as such

DCE has the Winning Contract Cards
He Gets what he wants

Surely we can sign him for a good portion for one year and give him a halfs coaching role at manly for years to come as im sure uncle nick is thinking the same thing but he will tarnish his legacy as a manly player if he leaves for any other club especially the roosters!

Jusk sack Mestrov and use his salary as part of DCE's two year extension
and make the articulate DCE Captain and CEO of our club
Mestrov is Surplus

Both Bobby Fulton and Paul Vautin left and played for Easts ...

We need a forward pack like this:
8 - Brent Kite
9 - Matt Ballin
10 - Josh Perry
11 - Anthony Watmough
12 - Glenn Hall
13 - Glenn Stewart
15 - Mark Bryant
16 - Jason King
17 - Steve Menzie

Now, that's a balanced forward pack.

I would 'almost' bet that if Greenblurgh was still the ceo, he claim that dce signing with the titans then changing his mind during the allocated 10 day cooling off period actually constitutes signing with another club and therefore the 10 year service re-sets at zero.

because.....now hear me out.... he's a ****wit.
