The Daly Cherrygraph

One more premiership……than we can talk about our greatest….but jeez he is getting close.
If he dragged our team to one more in his later years, that would be one hell of an achievement… and worthy of legend status. We might be wishful with Penn and modern NRL structures working against us

Was at his best tonight.

Even in the last 5 minutes his scoots from dummy half were very good.

Would have been the best #9 in the NRL era, if a coach could have/would have had the balls to force the change a decade ago.

Yes better than Cam Smith, who also played his entire career in a dinner suit.

If he’d played 9, his last game is probably 3-4 years ago and he’s ancient history.
Instead he’s the current QLD number 7, and arguably a top 5 greatest ever player for Manly.

He does do well whenever he steps in at 9. He first instinct is to always run which gets the play off on the front foot. Would he do that if he was at DH every play? Maybe not.

Passing from DH is as good as any 9 in the game.

He had another good game tonight, no doubt, but to be fair to former players whose careers quickly get forgotten, he is getting nowhere near the top 5 ever players for Manly.

Slot him in just behind Cliffy ATM in my opinion. More to come, however. His toughness and resilience may see him through to just land him behind the greatest,in Bozo. We have, and are blessed to have this guy in our club.

Spot on just ask croker how hard it is to play 9. Given his form and level of fitness he will kick on for another 2-4 years. Would love to see him play until he was 40.

His pass for try 1 was brilliant and no one in the game does a better clutch field goal that DCE!! Doing this at age 35 makes him so valuable. At times his game management skills cost us, its true, what needs to be spelt out that he creates so many opportunities for our team. If we can get a game manager 6 or 9 we would be such a better team!!

SEVEN times this man had done it in golden point

Honestly

Those ‘fans’ that dump on him and blame him for our performance are genuinely flippin stupid. This guy is the greatest player in our history…. Start appreciating him - hes the GOAT of Manly.

That was amazing.
It’s hyperbolic statements like this that partly rub people up the wrong way with DCE imo. His only real success in the last 10 years has been in the Origin arena, you can’t be the GOAT of the club with the complete lack of team success we’ve had in that time. I’ll give you him being our best ever halfback and maybe in our top 10 all time, but the only real advantage he has over other greats of the club is games played and longevity.

Mind you I’m a long time DCE critic but his game the other night was incredible, honestly one of the best I’ve seen him play for the club. But even then it’s all a different story if Jake doesn’t charge down Townsend’s field goal attempt, which was in perfect position because a certain someone went for a short drop out with 16 seconds left…

Define 'play in a dinner suit'?
Not especially wishing to defend 'Mr Two-contract/grapple tackle/referees-boss Smith', but he is credited with making more tackles than any other player in history!

Could well have been the case of just trying to limit another attempt by Drinkwater in the mid field area or any other noted Cows field goal kicker from a similar position . Obviously did not turn out that great a result and maybe he was trying to get an even longer angled kick away
. Anyway , also could be on the wrong track with that observation as well

No way chez has surpassed snake
Each to their own but for mine he has...

Both won premierships but Chez has played 90-odd more games for Manly, 15-odd more at SOO and 20-odd more for Australia... Daly is club capt, state capt, won Dally M Medals for Rookie of the year, Halfback of the year and a Clive Churchill...

Snake won an extra premiership but had a better team around him to do so and, obviously, as a fullback he scored more tries... loved snake but Chez is higher on the board when I am drawing it up as I think he has achieved more in the game...

Obviously, it is a totally subjective topic tho as Chez should also be in front of (at least) Des, Beaver, Killer and Cliffy if we are going solely on numbers and accolades....

Oooh man, this is in my wheelhouse for sure

Currently the NRL is trying to manipulate the rules to limit concussion and injury at kick offs etc

Why, because when 2 bodies collide at equal force the impact can be huge

Smith and DCE rarely, if ever provide impetus from there runs , very very often tackled while either feigning sideways or stopping at the line. It works better at 9 than 7 as its easier to committ a marker than in the line .

Both played huge ammounts of game uninjured, and no one is surprised. Jason taylor was another who played this way

They are still tough and resillient as all NRL players are and he may very well be a freak but its hard to qantify when he plays so conservatively with his body

BUT if that doesnt resonate, try the meatloaf song

I will do anything for love
BUT i wont do that

Sorry had a few beers, i must add i am in an acceptable time zone for that.

Perfect position to be pressured and charged down, yes. No position at all to charge anything down with a long dropout and 2 guys that can pot them long range
