The Daly Cherrygraph

They did and he lied. If you piece the puzzle together, it’s clear as crystal that there’s been a breakdown in the relationship with Manly. Weirdler asked him if there was and he said no…if there wasn’t animosity, he’d leave the door open for Manly to sign him if he chooses to stay on. What other reason than conflict would there be, not to leave that door open?
Absolutely agree… 100% spot-on imo… closing the door says “I’m done with you, you had your chance”

But who knows, maybe there IS a big contract agreed behind closed doors (big risk if there is no ink on paper though)

I honestly think his captaincy should be stripped , why should he get to save face at the expense of the club. I don’t know how he could look his team mates in the eye after that charade. It’s not if you leave, it’s how you choose to leave. Daly doesn’t get that distinction.

Why is origin so important. How can that be a driving force. He will soon work out that legacy and reputation matter, not shrewdness and squeezing everything you can.
Well Haumole has one job if he gets picked for NSW, ONE JOB... :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Problem with Turbo to 5/8, I don't think he has any real kicking game does he? Nor with his hamstrings do I want him to try and develop one! That would mean the kicking and team direction load completely on Brooks he can't handle that. I am betting next year Brooks stays at 5/8, Jake Arthur at Half. Our present squad I don't think I see any other way.

I’ve pretended like this day would never come, I think it hits a little harder for me because majority of my conscious memories as a manly supporter, dce has been our halfback, not calling a lot of you old on here but.. a lot of the players you guys love and have memories with that you talk about is probably close to my experience with dce, if you can’t tell, by my profile picture and has been my phone homescreen for a LONG time that I’m not good with moving on from my favourite players leaving the club.

I'm the biggest Penn critic however, they have been extremely proactive in negotiations and were working towards a revised deal, retirement was mentioned along the way (in the early stages of negotiation), however DCE is after a certain amount of money and he is well aware of the dearth in the marketplace for a quality half-back.
Zebras don't change their stripes. Good riddance. Let him go, and if u do don't come back! The club can finally start building a culture that doesn't revolve around me, me, me

Sorry, that's what I meant. He said no, there wasn't an issue so where was the follow up question - so why do you want to leave? That just seemed to be the next logical question.
There was a lame attempt to suggest it was to help the club ‘move on and plan’ but who was buying that after the tone of ‘no contract until 360 tonight’ and further contradictions about knowing the decision since December. It was all spin and then Gus had the audacity to suggest his announcement was professional 😂

I get it though…he is under contract with Manly and has to play a straight bat but it’s so transparent that the relationship is fractured.

Honestly… so be it. No surprises. He’s always been about himself — this just confirms it. Fact is, no one wanted him when he first came through. His manager flogged him around and it was Manly — our club — that gave him his shot. We backed him. He repaid us by winning the comp in 2011… then refused to honour his deal, demanded an upgrade, and the club folded.

That move cost us Glenn Stewart — heart and soul of the club — forced him to Souths, and fractured the playing group. That side had a dynasty written all over it, and DCE’s ego blew it apart.

Then came the 10-year deal — richest in the game. Since then? Cap issues, mediocrity, and a revolving door of players. If he genuinely cared, he’d take a haircut now — free up some cash, help us push for one last premiership. That’s what leaders do. Someone should introduce him to Tom Brady — the bloke took pay cuts his whole career to build a dynasty. Seven rings later, still a god.

Instead, he’ll bleed us dry and walk. Typical Cane Toad.

And now he announces it after Round 3 — how the hell does that help Manly this year? It doesn’t. Just throws a cloud over the season. The captain’s mentally checked out three weeks in — what message does that send to the squad? Young blokes wondering if they’re playing for this year or rebuilding already. Should’ve waited till October — but nah, classic DCE.

Honestly… wouldn’t surprise me if the crowd turns on him — like Dylan Brown copping it from the Parra fans. Deserves every boo if it happens.

Time to move on. Back Joey Walsh, back Otoni Large — they’re the future. Hungry, proud to wear the jersey. No one’s bigger than the club.

Up the Sea Eagles.

I imagine that the club did, but for a start, DCE just said that he hasn't decided what he is doing next year.

Having watched most of that interview, I am not convinced that he is telling the full truth...
He will be running for Parliament next election with the level of evasion and lying by omission we witnessed

It was only topped by me answering my wife's question "how many beers did you have" on Friday night

The only conflict here is the notion of one's "value/worth" and the computation of this "number" is made up of both financial and non-financial decisions/requirements and expectations.

We can spin it all we like, DCE can too, but this is purely a combination of money and his want/desire to continue playing and doing what he would like to do, on his own terms (again, as is his right due to the service that he's given the Club).

It may well be that DCE met a CEO and a Coach who had other ideas that weren't aligned to his and that was a stumbling block as well.
