Aside from his playing ability, DCE would make a fine Statesman for QLD.

Problem is that Morgan and Ponga will be their first choice in 2019 along with Munster.

Kevvie had a chance last year and went with the younger players.

I don't think Ponga will play in the halves considering he hasn't played there at all in the NRL. I also think that Morgan is showing he isn't all he was cracked up to be. He had a sterling finals series last year, but was average for most of the regular season and they only just scrapped into the eight. I believe Morgan's best position is fullback, or for QLD - a utility. I think Ash Taylor and Munster will end up being the long term QLD halves, but Cherry might have a couple of years in between.

Even if they don't pick Cherry as the 7, he might get the 14 as he performed very well in that role in the past, it was only his games in the 7 that he struggled with (alongside Thurston).

I think the decision not to pick him in the past was largely Thurston, Cronk and Smith's influence. Kevvie himself said that he consulted them when selecting the halves (when one of their regular halves were injured or when they retired). Now that those three are all gone and the fact 'their' choice in Hunt didn't work out, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cherry come in. I remember Mal coming out last year saying that it was largely his fault that Cherry didn't perform in the 7 as they tried to make him fit the style of play they had always played with Cronk, even though Cherry is a totally different player. He said that he should have altered their style a bit to better suit DCE.

If Hunt really is out of favour then Kevvie may well bring Cherry back into the fold and put the debate about him to bed once and for all. They no longer play the style that they did under Cronk, Thurston and Smith, so it may just work out in Cherry's favour.

I hope it does for his sake, he has taken enough hits over the years (and again this year), I'd love for him to play and have a blinder.

I had Ponga taking over from Slater next year and Morgan goes back to 6 with Munster at 7.

He is a special player that is for sure, that has been clear from day dot and he is only getting better with each outing. The knights paid $750k for an untried kid and it will pay off big time.
