But the big question is how many tackles did he make? Missing 10 tackles isn't bad if you make 200 successful ones. But if you miss 4 tackles and making only 8 then there is issues.

It seems he made 375 tackles last year in the Holden Cup and missed 73 tackles. Meaning for every 5.13 tackles he made he missed one. That is halves level defence. Which isn't optimal for a front rower.
Very true, but if you look at those stats the last 8-10 games of the season and this season were averaging out nicely in terms of tackles made and missed(also depends on when how he was used, starting, coming off the bench etc.....The big misses and lower tackle counts were largely earlier in the year.Facts,Shmacts, you can use facts to prove any old thing....Depends on how he is coached and what his coach wanted from him, potential is still there regardless.

You could well end up being right Ralphie, but why not take a chance? Just because they could not get the best from him is not a reason to not take a chance. He fits into the low risk high reward category,we won't be paying him much but we could get a star...Many players are cast offs from other clubs,we have had a good record of getting something good out of others droppings. He could be another Chee Kam or he could be something special,no one is blowing their load but the upside is exciting....
Oh, don't get me wrong, happy to take a chance.

The bloke can't / won't tackle, other than in patches and won;t get down and dirty in the forwards battle. Very much in the Dave Taylor category. The Tigpies have invested heavily in trying to remedy that without success. They have had one on one coaching, the lot and the bloke still thinks it's touch footy. Ultimately the Tigpies concluded that he wasn't going to be fixed any time soon and he was frustrated because he thought he should be playing NRL. He requested a release because he had been told he would play NRL this year and the Tigpies have not yet released him, but probably will.

source?

For what it is worth he is now listed on the NRL website as a Sea Eagle. Don't be surprised if he plays for us tonight.

Ive also seen him a few times and that doesn't seem a fair description of his effort, Definitely agree his technique in defence needs work but to say he wont get down and dirty in the forward battle is wide of the mark.

This is the same tigers outfit that named him NYC player of the year despite having 2 players who had played a few games of first grade for them and another 2 who were Jnr Kangaroos and Kiwis in the same NYC team.

Hi Guys,

I'm a Tigers supporter and poster over on WestsTigersForum and have joined up to weigh into this discussion - Losing Paseka was majority a sore point within our fanbase, however as posted by some of the posters over here he is indeed from what we know at times a bit of a lazy player.

Reportedly the Sea-Eagles have put a generous offer to the young guy, and the Tigers needed to be in the vicinity of 600k to keep him. A tough decision, and no doubt within the Tigers fan base an unpopular decision, however probably not the wrong decision for our team as of right now.

I personally think he's not worth it at the moment, however if you can get the best out of him - (much like the new lease of life Sironen seems to have gotten with Manly however lets see if it lasts - he had 5-6 game patches with us where he was great, then disappeared in big losses) then all the best.

Good luck for the season guys (except in rounds 19 and 23)

Cheers, UD.

Anyway notice Kieth Titmuss playing holden cup in the bench. Hes turning 17 this year, not sure if first grade worthy but noticed that. Could be good

Paseka slipped under the radar

Tigers officials are filthy at losing boom young forward Taniela Paseka to Manly this week.

A giant 19-year-old front-rower, the Tigers rated Paseka as the equal of wing sensation Moses Suli who has looked so good since bursting into the NRL this season.

Paseka actually beat Suli to be named the Tigers’ Holden Cup Player of the Year and Player's Player of the Year last season but decided to join Manly this week.

Paseka’s stats were outstanding for a prop last year - in his 22 NYC matches he produced five tries, 74 tackle breaks, 375 tackles and ran for 2411 metres.

He also played for NSW under 20s and shone - despite being only 18!

With the Tigers having bigger fish to fry, Paseka slipped under the radar, but the joint venture’s loss will definitely be Manly’s gain.

Why would they be "filthy"when the Tigers were the ones who released him early?Sporting News at its best

$600k holy sh$&balls that's insane for a 19yo with some size and potential.

Thanks for your thoughts UD

How long though?
I'm guessing 3 year deal and that isnt bad
$200k a year for a rookie is still good coin. Takes it from a no risk gamble to a mid level gamble.

Will also put him into our top 25 ????? Who drops out ?????? Or are NYC contracts different. Where is @HappilyManly when I need facts?

600k your f***ing kidding, I wouldnt have paid him $20 for tonight's performance. Along with Tom Wrights 100k, Johhnie Walkers 50k (released) and George Francis 45k (released) were doing a great job in recruitment!

Did I hear correctly that our Under 20s got beaten by 60 points tonight?
We thought we had a star recruit and some good juniors. This is a reality check!
