Journey Man
"Manly don't have a goal kicker"......or do they?
For all of the fears in the pre-season that unless we signed a James Maloney or played someone like Jackson Hastings that Manly would struggle on the goal kicking front with our most likely kickers being either Dylan Walker, Daly Cherry-Evans or Matthew Wright, none of whom would have been considered top line kickers.....DCE has stepped up and is currently knocking them over at a pretty damn good rate.
So far this year Cherry has kicked an impressive 23 goals from 27 attempts for a strike rate of 85.19% with hauls of 3/4, 9/10, 1/1, 6/8 and 4/4. Now admittedly he has had a lot of kicks from in front of or somewhere near the posts and he is still a bit hit and miss from out wide, but then not everyone is a Matthew Ridge, Daryl Halligan or Hazem El Masri.
Prior to this year his NRL career stats were 37/62 for a strike rate of just 59.6%. As of right now he has kicked 60/89 and his strike rate has risen to 67.42%
Cherry's goal kicking seems to have gotten back to the standard of his days in our U/20s and for the Sunshine Coast when he had a reputation as one of the better kickers. Its been a very welcome return to kicking form for DCE and lets hope it continues.
