Supposed "Crisis at Manly" Megathread

regardless of who comes or goes, it's flat out wrong to drag all this ... through the media...it's not fair on the fans.

Seems like every time we are going great and winning comps, we the fans never get to enjoy it.

"I can't elaborate on the issues, I don't really know the issues to be honest with you but I guess there are issues."

because someone told you so Kieran?! This sentence says it all in terms of the influencer that is fanning the flames.

I'd like to hear from the players speaking up about exactly how they would have divvied up the current salary cap and retained a competitive 25 man squad for 2015 (including Gift). They'd probably say 'that's not our job' and I'd say exactly, so shut up and play footy.

Oh @globaleagle

Told you I didn't want to dive into these threads! (Once you're in, very hard to swim out).

However @Ramrod a good business-model incorporates human resource management. Including compassionate grounds for employees.

Just as every player's contract is unique, so too should be their exit plan, or potential exit plan.

To think that if Skivy, for example, being released a year early to take up a 4mill-deal, would see mass exodus is alarmist and naive.

And you Ramrod were the one saying last week that Matai wasn't all that valuable (,to Manly) and should get to 200 games before throwing his market-value weight around, where you not?

Now he's invaluable and pivotal to Manly's business and ethical profile. Or just to suit your argument this week, more precisely.

His age and our plans beyond 2015 would not see us offering him millions for 3 years. If that sort of offer is available to him now, when it may not be after next year (if he stays) we should consider letting him go home, on compassionate grounds.

That enhances both our business-profile and moral or ethical blueprint too.

And whether he leaves soon or in a year, he will leave, or retire (just like Beaver for example). And then we have to replace him like we do with every aging player.

Oh, and what you, I or the Prime Minister earns is irrelevant. Sporting stars are paid relative to what their industry or field can pay; same as every occupation or profession.

And again, the bottom line for me is Skivy has earned the right to be at least heard out on this release-issue.

He is a legend. (We told Beaver no, not one more year. We didn't even offer Gift another year either). This time it's Skivy saying no, not one more year please , from his side of the table.

And don't forget the money we'd save can go on other, younger players; even towards re-signing Chez if they choose.

I would NEVER say Matai is "invaluable".
It would contradict why I would want Manly to keep him.
Skivy is awesome and I would want him to stay.

Somehow, you're very keen to get rid of Skivy so that younger or other players can be signed.

I still disagree with you.

Ex-Manly players that have left and went for more money elsewhere only to regret it and went on the media to say that they wished they had stayed (eg. Shearer, Ridge, etc.).

I'm ONLY doing Matai a favour by telling him he should stay. He will only regret it.
This is my long term version of Human Resource management and player welfare. I don't want him to look back with regrets and end up with depression for wearing another jersey.

You are wrong again. 🙂

Oh that's just plain cheeky mate...lol.

I'm not necessarily wrong...We agree to disagree, remember?

I don't want to get rid of Skivy at all.
I'd love him to play forever (at Manly).

It's just not reality.

And IF that Warriors offer is accurate (3-4 million) I'm simply saying I would let him go home to NZ, and bank 3 or 4 times what we can offer (if we offer anything at all by next season's end ).

In fact, the debacle with Gift this year could be repeated next year with Skivy, if indeed we force him to stay.

And any massive deal (specifically from the Warriors) may not be there then, and Skivy could be left with little or nothing. Or most likely have to go to the UK for a decent last deal.

It's well known how close he is to his family back in NZ. It's stubborn and disrespectful to not factor all that (plus his service to Manly) and at least consider the request.

However, as pointed out, the NRL and/or Manly of course, may well insist the contract is unbreakable for 2015.

And I'd STILL bet Skivy would play his ar$e off for Manly as always.

Id honestly say the issue is Gift didn't even get an offer. The club should have at least offered him the best we can do, even if its only 5 figures, show the man the respect he deserves as a damn fine player and explain the situation. The club forced a future manly legend's hand and I'd be pretty pissed off myself if i'd worked tirelessly to rebuild a decimated club and they cant even offer me a couple bucks. .

I doubt we'd be in this situation if he'd knocked back an inferior offer from us rather than forced to leave from lack of one! If it were my brother or best mates?

I hope it all works out well for Manly.
I feared all this would happen after what Gifty went through.
Very sad.

We chose not to sign Glenn Stewart based on ability. If the club says this publicly or to the players. They get upset. If they lie like they have been. They get upset. Its business. Suck it up or leave the club.

You play for Manly. The fans.. the board and the club. If you are against it.. Then theres 15 other clubs you can go and not win premierships with. Good luck and good riddance.

So sick of it all. Tooves and the board are just doing their job. Improving Manly and keeping it ticking for future years. These so called legends are not doing themselves any favours. When they retire in 2-3 years.. What do Manly do then? Manly needs to be prepared for the future and their lack of understanding of how football works astounds me. When they were coming through and Beaver had to leave.. you didnt see this outcry and he is one of our greats. He took it in his stride and left.

To our senior players... Brett, Steve, Anthony and even Kieran. Move on our move out. Some of you owe alot to Manly (Brett.......) Short memories. Glenn has left the club and is making a **** load more than he would have if he stayed. He gets a chance to look after his family. Isnt that what you want for your 'mates' and brother? He is not dead. If he is your mate go for a drive to Redfern and say Hello.

Seriously. They want releases to sign for more money and this cover story that its about Glenn is just bull **** imo.

Ask for releases and say you want to go to another club. Dont blame the club.

What to believe or not is still very confusing to a fan who lives over 1,000k away.
So a group of senior players lose one of their own and now everyone wants to jump ship?
It seems the 'tightness' of the Manly playing group team is now ripping it apart.
Such a shame that the players we still love, want and need in our team are airing their views on club issues and making fans wonder if they still want to be part of Manly.
All the while we cheer for them with staunch commitment.
Strange times at Manly.🙁

Seriously Gift is gone!! What could the club do? If the NRL value him at $450K and there is only $300K in the salary cap (hypothetically) then there is absolutely no point in tabling any offer because you can't get it registered. Ppl still believing that keeping an injury prone player past 30 for the sake of team harmony is seriously deluded. Love Glenn and admire everything he has done but the club needs to move on and secure players for the long term. Nothing personal as i am sure everyone at the club from admin, staff and fans love Gift and hate seeing him leave but it's just the reality that the club was going to face one day unfortunately

Yeah mate that's what occurred to me, the last day or so...
If we enforce his contract for 2015, we could go through the same (as Gift this year).

Skivy deserves a better finish than that.

Yeah mate...That's right folks!

We could do all this again next year!

Hopefully our CEO and board have learnt from the Gift saga, and don't do the same to Skivy (especially if they make him stay for 2015).

The Manly Half Hour on Fox 😛

Watched some of these Manly stories. I have to say that the one on Matai's heart not being with Manly due to him sitting down halfway through the team song, Monday night, was borderline hilarious.
He had injured his leg during that game.
Ex doggie Steve Turner says it's a definite sign that his heart's no longer with Manly.
Not saying there aren't any rumblings going on at our club but some journalism is just plain ridiculous.🙄

Yes, that has to top this week's conspiracy theories list 😀
Matai hates Manly so much, that he returned to the field with a corked knee, an injury that lames other Players 😎
The poor bugger then had to sit down, ergo, Matai disrespects his Club 😛

Fair enough for Turner as it is not like he has had as many opportunities to sing a wining team song as Matai has...

This is insane beat up by media and Manly haters.

So all because the NRL cap failed to destroy Manly, Manly should do the honorable thing & implode itself? Seriously?

The players took less money to play with mates in a premiership. Well look what happened. They succeeded.

But now when the NRL cap finally cut off a Manly limb (Gift) everyone wants Manly to now shoot itself in the neck as a cure.

I'm guessing the big scoop will be - Mutiny at Manly as senior players disagree with administration over the handling of G.Stewies contract.
Everyone wants out. Led by Choc, Snake, Matai and Foran.
Like we haven't heard that before.
But...what's gone on in the last hour?
