I totally disagree. I would whole heartedly agree if the release was requested before we had the let Glenn go. If they let Matai go now, letting Stewart go was all for nothing.

Unfortunately that's what looks like is going to happen. We will be lucky if it's only the 2 of them now it's become a massive **** fight.
Don't think the offer for Matai came before Gift had left. If it did, it makes the decision to let Gift go even worse!!

Is the point lost on anyone that the Warriors are not allowed to offer Matai a contract for next year because he is signed with Manly? How can you ask for a release to take up a deal that against the administration laws sanctioned by the NRL?

I don't think he would have even entertained leaving if Gifty was re-signed. He never considered it before, when he could have earned good money at a much younger age. Why all of the sudden would it interest him now? It's too much of a coincidence that he wants out now supposedly along with 4 or 5 others.

I think there was probably an element of "the club will look after it's long serving players" and now they've seen the clubs true colours with the handling of Gifty, and they're thinking "let's get out now before our stocks plummet".

They've informally made him an offer. Which is formally offering one without breaking any rules. Ask the former coach he's an expert on informal offers.

Where's the assumptions?? If Gift was re-signed Snake , Choc and Foz wouldn't be going anywhere. End of story.
Matai may have left but if board had retained Gift he may well have stayed.
If we now go on to lose Foz because of all this it would be devastating.
Very poor decision by the board IMO.

Oh ok I get it. A faction of the senior playing group comprising Stewarts x 2, Matai, Choc & Foran are only ok with certain long standing players getting the axe like Kite, Rose & no doubt Kingy if he gets the tap on the shoulder this season. But touch one of 5 power brokers then that won't be tolerated. Glad I know where things stand now.

I reckon there will be a couple of Warrior centres with a point to prove.

Plus most teams have their rosters sorted for next year, so pay cuts all round.

I also say they should be released.

The club should make it public they have asked, and grant it.

If it means DCE, Foran, Taufua, Buhrer, etc etc are secured for the next 4 or 5 years we are in a great position.

These blokes are nothing without Manly. They can ask a true great in Fulton how his 2 years at the Roosters turned out.

Imagine spilling your guts for a great team for 10 years and then ending your days on the Gold Coast or Canberra hoping you dont get the spoon until your retirement.

agree 100% Bob,but the funny thing is after they go and then retire,they,ll want back into the club is some form or another,us the fans stick by them through thick !and thin,but we are the ones who suffer the most,Brett wont get the support he got with Manly fans when he went through the tough times at any other club. The players want the fans to be loyal,then it works both ways
