So far off the pace

It’s just an ordinary forward pack we need to upgrade.

NYEagle
Nahhhh. Croker is an amazing dummy half. And the Preacher signed up long term even though he’s never actually done anything of note on any consistent basis. Nevermind the left back rower position… let’s just pray pray Burbo eventually develops into a great one. We are fine 😂

Yeah ref was annoying. Every time we scored a try it went upstairs as no try, and when the Roosters scored he could not blow try fast enough.
Atkins default position both last week and tonight was to go against Manly in any situation requiring an actual decision.
Surprising isn't it that the son of a former Parramatta and Roosters player would act that way. I'm shocked.😱

We need a blue chip hooker ,a blue chip 2nd rower & a blue chip lock before we are serious contenders.
Its not happening.
Problem is there’s nothing available. And with more teams coming the stock will thin further.

Move on from Hasler mate, he is gone and not coming back. We were not better under him either. Other than the Sharks and tonight sone would argue we’ve been in most every game this year. 2021 we were carried by Tom in lockdown footy.
Mate I've moved on from the man but not the Idea we upgraded with our current leadership team.
Can you honestly say last night's game was a better effort than 2019 v souths? We had that game till Jake was binned. That game was all heart and effort. No Turbo and some rage tag fill ins giving it all for the twam and coach. That's all we can compare it to if your being honest.
I know some will say 'but we have beaten top 4 sides this year' and yes we have BUT the big 3 panthers, storm and Roosters are a shadows of the sides they were from 2016 - 2022 thanks to retirement and ageging of superstars and a dilution of their rosters thanks to cap pressure.
I don't Blame the players at all. We have a really good first 13 when all fit. We don't have the brains department to mould that team.
It's all to naught thou because Seibold will be resigned and we will have another few years of what could have been.

Oh and please put Ruben back on the wing.

Unfortunately I think Tom and Jake are going to join hindmarsh in the "club legends that could never win a gf" club...
I just don't see how it happens... Tom seems to be held together by sticky tape, dce is what, 47 next season??? Jake hasn't broken the line with a run since 2017, and we're just... Average... As a footy team, manly can come 7th or 12th any given season... Just plain average... And I don't see it changing anytime soon..

Disappointed with tonight but the boys had a great season... Well earned off season ahead
.
The Trbojevic brothers will never see a Grand Final. Very sad.

I’m not entirely sold on Siebold and co either. I’m just not sure it’s worse than under Des, I think marginally better. But that’s just my opinion. Nrl is so close now week to week there’s not a lot between plenty of teams and that goes year after year as well. I had issues with Des and issues with Siebold as well. As put in another thread how Garrick is still the centre is beyond me and how Croker is still 9 I have no idea (at least as our primary 9). That said Siebold needs credit for bringing Lehi through. Never would have happened under Des.

I actually think the lack of movement with the two players mentioned speaks more to (what I’ve thought for a while) the senior players having too much say in the team makeup. Croker and Reubs I think are protected by dce and the Turbos. They are not the only ones either. See what 25 brings I guess.

You can bag Seibold all you want but who else is a legitimate upgrade and available?

Yes Flanagan was a better option but that ship has sailed.

And please don't say brad Arthur.

So far off the pace when compared with who?

11 out of our 16 competitor NRL clubs were convincingly "off the pace" when compared to Manly in 2024.

Of the remaining 5, Townsville was no better. That leaves the top 4. No one should really by contending with Melbourne, Easts, and (now) Penrith for obvious reasons - and yet Cronulla seem to be the only club who has kept pace with these powerhouses. This makes their achievements all the more remarkable, and yet they've only managed 1 Finals win thus far in years.

I'd say that under normal circumstances, we can't really expect much more than this. If we are to become top 4, we should look at building a roster similar to the Sharks - namely built on a creative 9, a mobile pack, and with great defensive resolve. Add Brailey, Nikora, and McInnes and we certainly won't be off the pace. As others have pointed out, 2-3 key recruits and we are playing for GFs more regularly.

A sh*thouse way to end the season, especially to the Roosters, but given the last couple of years at Manly, we should all take a moment and celebrate 2024. Hope all Silvertails have a great end of year, as always, I've thoroughly enjoyed the banter.

Go Manly

2024 we have a better roster than both those years but very little structure or internal strength. Comes form the top and our top is rotten. Imagine a Todd payton or ciraldo with this roster.
Todd Payton?
North Queensland had more SOO representatives than any other squad and were one of the most disappointing teams of 2024.

I agree with most of what you've suggested here. However, I don't think the Sharks achievements are remarkable. They've got heaps of coin from all the developments they've done around their home base and the leg speed in their forward pack is tailor made for the current interpretation of the rules.

You're so right about expectation. With our current roster, could we seriously entertain top 4? I doubt it.

I will go there once again. We were a better side under Hasler with worse players.
2019 semi final loss to south's thanks to dodgy ref sending Jake to bin with 15 to go.
2021 we were awesome.

But what about 2022. Hasler was no messiah. He oversaw some shocking performances

Im not interested in the 'other" teams....simply stating the fact Manly are "way off the pace" of being a Premiership contender......it's pretty straight forward and the fantasy of "If we had these other 2-3 star players" we would do better ??
That's like saying if it was 35% instead of 20% it would be hotter....we have some poorly structured contracts that only allow these hit and hope moneyball signings, so could you enlighten us on how these 2-3 Star players we need fit in under the salary cap ?
