Snake is definitely retiring

In those hunting dog and horse examples the beloved animal is typically dispatched swiftly. I would hope that champion fullbacks get better treatment.

Nah, mate. Not where I come from. A good horse is let go in the "long yard" to see out his days. A good hunting dog retires to stud.

Manly should get Brett to do the same and start a breeding program for the future of Many.

@;)

Why not ... those stories would at least be true.

Including the story that Keith Page threatened to take him out the back of the SCG after the game to beat the crap out of him for allegedly calling Page a cheat lol.

Although we will definitely miss their leadership and experience, at least the club has quality replacements ready to go. Tom at fullback should soften the blow of losing Snake while Walker should soften the loss of Killer in the centres (as they are both right side centres). Hopefully we have (or will have) someone of quality to replace Skivy with Jorge, Kelly and Brad Parker the likely candidates so far.

Absolute champion, and many of the comments here are more fitting than what i have read over the last 12 months. Yes his form was down, suffered from a number of injuries, but those questioning whether he still bled manly should hang their heads.

if it so happens that he has to retire, then thanks Snake, it's been one hell of a ride buddy!

Hi Mal
Wish you were the real Mal Cochrane, he's a top bloke...not saying your not.... but I do agree with your comment. Got to admit it frustrated me with his ball return from kicks.... very unlike Graham Eadie. Wombat is a legend

Those who under estimate the value of Eadie, probably didnt see what he could do. As big as a forward yet as fast as a winger, brutal in defence, return play unmatched and a fine goal kicker as well. Snake is a very different footballer, certainly faster, better swerve, good defender and great organiser of the Manly defence. Both were great full backs, each spectacular in different elements of their play. But though Eadie didnt have Snake exceptional pace and back up brilliance, he was a more complete full back, intimidating like a bull in defence and attack, at times unstoppable. I'd have them both in my best ever Manly team but Eadie would be fullback, Snake on the wing

After Max Krillich and Kevin Schubert, I would rate Cochrane next best all time Manly hooker ahead of Ballin and then Fred Jones

And the fact after Wombat's retirement he has "given back" by establishing a junior program for football in the Northern Rivers for kids in after school care. Now that's legacy!

We can talk about culture all day long, but that just there is the style of football that has been synonymous with Manly Warringah as long as I have been supporting them and that's over forty years. It's been a joy to watch and follow these guys.
I love the camera work in that shot. The hand held sideline camera running alongside wombat, then the vision mixer cutting to the grandstand camera for the rest of the movement. He would have been in a van watching it on monitors.

Nowadays there are 50 cameras around the ground but they don't give the sense of excitement as well as that try, often.
