Reuben Garrick - Adonis

First out on the full kickoff was caught by a howling breeze, happens to the best of them. Second one was almost one of the best short kickoffs ive seen, barely got a metre off the ground and was out by less than a metre. Clearly something he has practiced and could be unstoppable if he gets it right. Could we have done better without them? Absolutely. Hanging offence? Certainly not.

I still like him. Definitely needs to build his core strength and leg drive to help bust tackles but he has everything else you want/need in a winger. He plays with heart and commitment and chases hard all day. I'll back him to have a great game this wknd. I think people are being harsh on him but I thought he looked sharp last week at fullback, definitely improved from his first couple outings there

Here is something for everyone to consider.

In our 14 games so far.....and note this is just the positions they started in, not counting covering for in-game injuries (e.g Jetski coming in to play centre or Croker coming in to play 5/8).

Fullback - Brendan Elliot (7), Tom Trbojevic (6), Reuben Garrick (1)
Wing - Reuben Garrick (13), Jorge Taufua (10), Tevita Funa (4)
Centre - Moses Suli (13), Brad Parker (12), Tevita Funa (2), Brendan Elliot (1), Jorge Taufua (1)
5/8 - Dylan Walker (7), Cade Cust (5), Lacklan Croker (2)
Halfback - Daly Cherry-Evans (14).

Did you know that round 4 against the Worms at Wankfest (a game we by rights won, but didn't) was the last time that we started a game with the same 1-7 as we had the previous week? And that was also the last time we had what was considered our best 1-7 in the pre-season actually start a game together. Tom, Jorge, Parker, Suli, Reubs, Walks and DCE. In the 10 games since then, we've either had players missing through injury or just being dropped. Tom has played one and a half games since then, Walks less than one and a half.

We simply haven't had a settled backline in 2 and a half months, and a few times in there we have even had to play forwards like Jetski in the backline just to cover in-game injuries. And unfortunately because the injuries seem to keep piling up, that's not likely to change any time soon. If we could actually get a settled backline then maybe we wouldn't be going so poorly. Unfortunately though, even if we did that we still won't have anywhere near our best on the park because of the injuries to Turbo and Walks has forced other positional changes. We've probably got a better 5/8 in Cust at least playing, but that's been well and truly offset because fullback has been severely weakened.

He's a good lad. Most kids coming through today don't have great pride in doing the little things right. He has passion, and tries his guts out. One of the few who actually hurts when it doesn't go right, and is visibly filthy with himself. He's having a shocker of a season, but he is being thrown into by far the most difficult position on the field. Even Latrell looked poor for weeks at FB.
Give Garrick time, he'll be a club stalwart one day, and a Des special

With the season on the line plus the failed short kick off thats 3 times he gave them the ball on half way or close to it. It mattered big time for us. Twice ok but thrice... fmd

A poor mans Michael Robertson?

Reminds me of Jack Elsegood
Jack could break the line and defenders, I don’t think Garrick is where Jack used to be, but you never know. One thing Garrick is getting over a lot of others in the squad is opportunities to prove himself.

Deli signed for a couple of years more...this FEELS like Des sees him as our back-up FB after Elliott is gone (he's as good as gone now). Is this a part of the Hoppa riddle?

Unfortunately, Reubs, like Brendan Elliot, is substituting for someone with the talent of Tom Trbojevic. Yet even though you realistically can't expect them to be at his level, that's what people do actually expect.

At this stage of his career (only his second year in first grade), right now Reubs is a bit of a poor mans Michael Robertson. A winger who through circumstance is often being called upon to play fullback. Its not his position and we all know that he's only filling in, but he'll still give it his best go.

Would you rather Jorge Taufua at fullback?

@Woodsie did you see Garricks latest do? I think we should start a thread....

Just watched the game as I was camping and was hoping for some good news when I got back into service, not to be.

I thought he was good last year but has seriously regressed (in my opinion if you don’t move forward and improve your going backwards).
He has added nothing to his game, never backs himself with his apparent speed, maybe he read his own press and all off season instead of working hard on his game. In saying all that I do feel for the young fella he doesn’t have a lot of help around him at the moment.

So basically I’m frustrated

Yeah .. Nah .... I know you are a fan of the mullett .... which automatically disqualifies you from any reasonable or intelligent discussion on the subject of men's grooming ....

You have far too much time on your hands ....
