Refs think they are rock stars

I never buy into the ref manage games narrative.

Not a tin foil hat guy....but by god tonight was something to behold.

I mean we were terrible too but that was another level of incompetence from the refs.
I do , watch some games , keep the stats yourself and you’ll see what I see. It happens too often to be tin foil hat stuff.

It was like when we got to 16 -0 that the ref said to himself “ **** this if they keep it up like this it’ll be a rout , and we can’t have that “. From that moment on , everything went the Tigers way.

Oh yeah they played well but they were allowed to , at the end of the first half the possesion was 65/35.

When they jumped to their big lead it was still 60/40.

Then we started coming back.

And 3 sin bins , seriously ????

Ennis said it at halftime - 6 penalties back to back.

I didn’t see Manly doing anything worse than the Tigers in the ruck but the ref apparently did.
I replayed the tackle Bulli was binned for, & for the life of me I couldn't see anything that hadn't happened 100 times before from either side. I've honestly never seen a refereeing display like that one. Absolutely diabolical. Normally it evens out in the end. It just got worse ! I think we should lodge an official complaint over that performance. We won't though because we are too piss weak.

Yes gough was bad terrible and biased beyond belief but we were worse and played dumb dumb footy

Its such a shame we played so bad with what was on the line

At 16-0 up one more score and the tigers were toast but we give away dumb penalty and they just went with momentum and we never recovered

I thought first 2 sin bins were a joke but that is history now.

Gough was absolutely diabolical last night.

Bully's binning still has me trying to work what exactly he did wrong.

Good teams overcome bad refs.....we weren't good.

100% The prime time (channel 9) games are the most impacted as they keep them close for the masses to stay switched on. Imagine how many turn off if Manly are up 30-0 at halftime. At 16-0 the game was headed for that.

It was a standard ruck infringement mate (which for mine it wasn’t even). He was binned as we’d been warned about over infringing. Was ridiculous. Why at 16-0 up does a team then need to chronically infringe???

The great thing about sport is its unpredictability . . .
unfortunately, this result was predictable.
We all feared a stitch-up. Just read the pre-game posts.
But the new way the NRL thinks it's all about giving the punters what they want. Just like WWE.
We were the villains, and the ref followed the the script perfectly. Just referee one side. Send three players off if you have to... just get the result.
Ironic when you realise Wests have had more players sinned bin this season than any other. It became just laughable that they had suddenly became the white hat guys.
I am really starting to wonder why I bother following this soap opera of a sport.

Waited all day to see this game.

Started scrolling forward from the 30 min mark.

What an absolute stitch up.

Most of those penalties were made up or just handed to tigers.

Ref when Manly gets tackled.
Held..........release....

Ref when tigers get tackled
Held.release.6 again!

Then to tell dce to fix the discipline????

Puts someone in the bin next time he calls 6 again for a 2 second tackle.

This ref cheated

I knew we were in serious bother with referee Gough when I heard him tersely speak to DCE about "Its your discipline mate!"

He battered us all game. The second half when they were really wilting, not ONE six again from him and we end up chasing our tales for most of that game.

I have heard of referees being swayed by home crowds, this I believe was not necessarily the case! This guy also did this to us in round 3 at Parramatta and it was a similar game and result for us.

What I do not understand is that for 21 rounds the game was adjudicated one way and now we have these nit picking buff heads not allow games to flow, 6 a gain's at their discretion and sin bin rulings that are totally a joke!!

What I resented the most about last night is that one team was refereed and the other allowed to do as they pleased!!

Not good enough NRL!!

Blowing our challenge early really came back to bite us. Give a weak idiot like Gough a chance to call it however he likes without being challenged and he’ll do it, by far the worst referee in the game alongside Chris Butler

Very reminiscent of the Parra game in round 3 and surprise surprise, same referee. It’s a shame it will all be glossed over because we lost to the worst side in the comp (and fair enough too I guess) but **** me that was truly one of the most one sided refereeing performances I have ever seen

Honestly has there been any sin bins this year from ‘too many’ penalties? I can understand it from set restarts on the try line because it shows you are purposely slowing the game down when the other team is attacking. But seriously is tigers gaining a free 30-40 metres not enough of a punishment already…

I get that but...why is it then, that a team can give away say, three set restarts early in the count yet get no such warning?
Yes, they most likely end up conceding a try but that's it, no further ramifications and it ends up like "well they scored, so there!"

I get the warning but l'm pretty sure they weren't all for the same or similar things or even the same player infringing so to pull out the sin bin for Bully was over the top in my opinion.
From memory the penalties were Jake's (dangerous) tackle, like wtf? Offside x 2, a slow peel and something else.
At that stage it was 5-1 penalty count.
Set restarts was like 4-2.

As an aside, if Guac goes to the bin for forceful high contact to the head..why doesn't the victim have to go for a HIA?

I’m a bit like @The Who , I could very easily walk away from the game at this stage of my life , it’s just so different to the game I grew up.

It’s just contrived these days , I think for the broadcasters.

That game last night was a boon for them, the hot side of the competition, playing at the cellar dwellers historic home ground , Back Door Benny the newest hall of famer, so let’s ensure the underdogs get up.

Yes we played very poorly , our discipline was obviously an issue but gee whizz were they absolutely perfect …..???

Seems they were.

Totally ... my interest this year has been reducing more and more every week .... my brother in law has given it away and my brother and I have talked about it ..... the game is now 'A PRODUCT' an entertainment product manipulated to satisfy the media and the masses.

I'm sure the NRL was delighted how the match played out. They didn't want Manly to humiliate Wests, like it would have happened in a fair contest. The ref knew his role, six straight penalties to Wests. Send three Manly players off.
Job done. Now we have a match where the NRL and the media can spin the narrative that RL is so unpredictable, and the salary cap does work because it enables no-hopers to compete.
That's footy baby; WWE style!

yeah, Gough reminds me of a Gestapo officer stopping someone on the street asking to check your passport.
