Refs think they are rock stars

Re: MWSE/NRL - I have this idea/observation might be stating the obvious where - putting myself in the players shoes, the players are demotivated, during a game, if they feel as though they're playing against the referee. Manly has had many decent leads in the past, and then the other team gets managed back into the game and go on to win, Manly lose. "The Ref/NRL is against us, why bother?" It's not an ongoing conspiracy, it's on a game by game basis, when it's in the interests of the NRL as a whole, for a team to win. Eg. At home, milestone game etc. I think the SE wanted an easy game last night and were pretty average, but would have won easily with 13 players. The ref saying 'clean up your teams discipline DCE' was his attempt to cover up the blatant game management. There were 2 soft and 1 very discretionary sin bins, last night. IMO From the bunker? The referees are very discretionary, managing a game on 'engagement factor' and dependent on the profile/situation of that particular game. Is it any wonder the players, of the maligned SE club, clock off?

My question is, were the tigpies perfect, were they so disciplined that they did nothing wrong, I find that hard to believe

yeah, Gough reminds me of a Gestapo officer stopping someone on the street asking to check your passport.
I cant believe Waddell is looking at 2 games for that slap that he did that wouldnt even bust a pimple. Honestly the game is getting soft. The amount of high shots that have been put on report the last few weeks has really been embarrassing . Most of them have just been a wrap around the head doing no damage. Honestly the game is getting embarrassing

We need a change, If it's minimal contact no penalty, play on.

Yep, and the directive to DCE to 'clean up your teams discipline' is all well and good but how could DCE tell his team to do that without calling them in to tell them, not to mention that Bully had just come on so he wouldn't have been privy to the directive anyway.
Just confirms the refs lack of awareness.

Will be interested to see if other teams/games are going to be reffed like we were last night. Or is it suddenly that we were the worst disciplined team ever

Just watching that first sin bin over again is so frustrating, It was just a regular tackle the shouldn’t have even been a set restart. That ref was just trying to prove some kind of point because DCE said he was giving bad calls

I'm sure the NRL was delighted how the match played out. They didn't want Manly to humiliate Wests, like it would have happened in a fair contest. The ref knew his role, six straight penalties to Wests. Send three Manly players off.
Job done. Now we have a match where the NRL and the media can spin the narrative that RL is so unpredictable, and the salary cap does work because it enables no-hopers to compete.
That's footy baby; WWE style!
All Good points, and on top of those, the NRL have a blockbuster game next week to decide who gets the spoon, which will rate its sox off. Blind Freddy could see how this has all been pre ordained by officialdom. This competition is a sick joke.

Refs can penalise you for anything. They don't have to be correct. This current mob is instructed to make the matches close. After 15 minutes it was heading towards a slaughter.
The ref will earn his bonus for that performance.

The resigned smirk on dce's face when Waddell got binned spoke volumes. He knew the stitch up was on.

I get that but...why is it then, that a team can give away say, three set restarts early in the count yet get no such warning?
Yes, they most likely end up conceding a try but that's it, no further ramifications and it ends up like "well they scored, so there!"

I get the warning but l'm pretty sure they weren't all for the same or similar things or even the same player infringing so to pull out the sin bin for Bully was over the top in my opinion.
From memory the penalties were Jake's (dangerous) tackle, like wtf? Offside x 2, a slow peel and something else.
At that stage it was 5-1 penalty count.
Set restarts was like 4-2.

As an aside, if Guac goes to the bin for forceful high contact to the head..why doesn't the victim have to go for a HIA?
That’s why I said it was ridiculous. The whole game was really.

I’m a bit like @The Who , I could very easily walk away from the game at this stage of my life , it’s just so different to the game I grew up.

It’s just contrived these days , I think for the broadcasters.

That game last night was a boon for them, the hot side of the competition, playing at the cellar dwellers historic home ground , Back Door Benny the newest hall of famer, so let’s ensure the underdogs get up.

Yes we played very poorly , our discipline was obviously an issue but gee whizz were they absolutely perfect …..???

Seems they were.
Totally agree Mark. But I’ve had those feelings about the game for a number of years now. If manly folded I’d likely rarely watch a game. In fact when weve missed finals I don’t watch until the GF really.

Last night was embarrassing and a total stitch up. Again why at 16-0 up does a side need to chronically infringe to the point of a player getting binned.

Better than losing Paseka I guess.

Up until last night Wests were the most undisciplined team in the comp, with the most players sent off/to the bin.
Last night they were little angels.
Spoke to many fans today who all said it was a total stitch up and they hate Manly. Anyway moving on. Cmon Wahs

Got a feeling the nrl want a really tight finish with 4th spot being played for late and 8th spot as well. Can see the Phins getting help in Melb. Maybe Sts getting help over Cronulla as well to keep that tight.

Up 16-0 and the tigers get the next 6/7 penalties including the sin-bin of Bullemor. The game managing has become so noticeable that when you get to a lead you get nervous knowing the refs will get involved by giving the team on the receiving end plenty of penalties and the rub of the green. The way the game is these days penalty after penalty and sin-bin after sin-bin ends up tiring your defence which makes it impossible to get back into the game.

We weren’t great last night , and folded under the intense pressure of everything going one way BUT it was “ everything going one way “ and I’m in disbelief at how we could be “ so bad “ and yet the Tigers “ absolutely perfect “.

I think we both know the answer to that one.

Mate we were poor last night no doubt. Very dissapointing and now we likely play an away final.

I just saw the Warriors v Bulldogs game and wow what a contrast to how our game was refereed.

You see at least 2 high shots from dogs players and no sinbin! It stinks! So over the refs and bunker who are so bloody inconsistent!!
