PRE-GAME DISCUSSION: Manly v Titans [Round 6, 2021]

Fifita, Tito & Brimson are the keys for the Titans.

If Manly can stop Fifita & Tito making yards up the middle then they can win, but sadly I do not see who is going to step up and get that done for us.

Brimson is key because we are a slow as f*** side and anyone with pace just seem to be able to run riot against us.

We are going to cop some massive hidings this year until we start picking a side suited to the way the game is played now.

Dinosaur coach anyone?

If we can cut the time their halves have it will be a contest.
Give their halves time (and space) and the titans will walk all over us.
Our defensive pressure needs to be better - our blokes need to cut down the time that the tits have on plays and close down the space they have to operate in...

The donkeys did that really well last night and the drizzle are masters at it...

Agree. Not optimistic though.
If Fifita and co don't get good ball they will be less effective.

Yep
We need to aim up and run hard in defence and not amble

We have enough size and strength to do it

There is no reason as to why we can’t intimidate in defence

previous footage will show our pack working as one

If they went wide they were snuffed by killer and Stevie who never defended sideways

while Parker is no Stevie he still hits hard
It’s about time we hurt teams again when we tackle

It is definitely possible...but we haven't turned up to play for about a year. Shoulders, Killer and their entire squad back then turned up to play EVERY week.

The Titans, Dragons and Sharks this year, and the Broncos last night have shown what is possible IF YOU TURN UP TO PLAY.'...regardless of your roster.

This is EVERYTHING...and it is missing at MWSE right now.

This post started quite positively Pete. I like it. Petered out a bit towards the end tho.
Look If Broncs can near on beat the Panthers we can beat these blokes with the right attitude. And the Broncs hardly have a fast side. In fact quite the opposite really when you look at Tevita on an edge.
It starts with holding the bloody ball and completing sets. We do the basics right, we build pressure which in turn leads to Titans mistakes. Line is up head to head on paper vs Titans. Where are they so much faster than us? It should be a good battle.

I think we were better in this area v warriors. Seemed we were getting up and frustrating them more.

Defence is very important, but so is attack. Manly were consistently scoring at close to 23 points per match from 2007-11 with an amazing 28 in 2008. Since 2018 we've been slipping continuously. 2018 at 20.8, 2019 at 20.7, 2020 at 18.8 and this year so far Manly are scoring at 9.4 per game. Even 1 point down in attacking is significant over a year and can mean the difference between winning and losing. So far this year our attack has been almost non existent.

Much can be attributed to the Turbo factor. But it also says we have no attacking options of significance other than DCE. This is why in my opinion Des is seriously erring. The centre partnership is solid but wont win games. The full back has offered nothing in attack. Foran tries hard and takes on the line but there is no other imagination creating doubt in the opposition defence. The hooker is just there to pass the ball. No imagination.

The side needs young players with the ability to create uncertainty in the opposition line. This side so far does not do that and I doubt much will change, though Turbo's return will at least add one attacking weapon to support DCE, and increase the attacking potency. But will it be enough? I doubt it with the present team. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Dont under estimate what confidence can do. That win WITHOUT Turbo was massive. Add Turbo... confidence should be sky high. We will give them a game. Not sure we can beat them but i expect if we put that same effort in we can get the job done. Its all about the extra efforts.

I agree with that sentiment KaZa. I just dont think it will be enough. But hopefully I'm wrong.

What is wrong with mature or even ageing players who can create uncertainty in the opposition line?
Your preoccupation with youth is showing again, lol.

Panfars are the youngest team in the comp.
Maybe they are but they also have ability.
The 'go for youth' argument always amuses me. Sure, we might unearth a super talent, but in reality everyone knows well before they hit first grade if they are that good.
Look at Test and Origin sides, most players are over 25 if not in their 30s. That is because they are the best. They only have 2 youngsters, or 3 at the most.
At the moment Manly already has two tyros in Schuster and Saab, plus a few other young inexperienced blokes such as Haumole and Harper.

You really are providing some excellent insight of late. Most unusual on here, stop it.
