PRE-GAME DISCUSSION: Manly v Tigers [Round 17, 2020]

Haha yes I suspect when we are losing games that many get this wonderful vision in their minds eye of our teenage stars cutting defences to ribbons and dashing downfield in long breaks. We dream longingly of their potential in attack... but probably don't turn our mind to how they will cope in defence.
As we well know (when we are awake, not dreaming) any slight defensive weakness means the opposition get a roll on, they get 6 again, they get a try, they get the ball back, repeat.
Next minute our attacking prodigies have barely had a chance to strut their stuff and we've copped another flogging.
I am looking forward to all our young guns becoming NRL ready, but I know Des won't pick them if he thinks they might struggle in defence and I can't blame him for that!

I like to dream of such things SE8. But I still have a touch of fantasy in my hopes...oh well

A sight for sore eyes ...

You’d much prefer the youngin’s to get a run with us leading the pack and resting a few stars for the final push but in 2020 they are going in under the pump.

Won’t matter to me and I certainly won’t be too critical , they’ll learn from the experience.

Absolutely correct.
Every player has to make his debut at some time. It's far more sensible to give them their chance when there is little hanging on the result of the match, as is the case now.
Imagine if we were in the semis and injuries forced us to debut players; the pressure to p[erform would be heightened.
I'm hoping all of those DESpicable plans to keep on our roster in 2021 get to debut this season so that they have some experience of NRL standard.

With Waddell being dropped late last week, and schuster on the extended bench is there a chance Corey is already off to the dogs and being used as a smoke screen for des debutants each week?
I understand where you’re coming from, but the seasons done, what’s the point in smokescreens?Let the young players deal with the media attention and “hype” now when there’s nothing really on the line other than enjoying their debut and gaining experience. And as proven last week with Hopoate,it makes no difference whether the opposition know whether a young player is playing or not,to their tactics

Or Steve Mortimer's comment 'Its not how you play the game, its whether you win or lose.' In business I guess jungle rules apply and the game is now a business.
***The Manly Sea eagles club are not a sacred hearts community club
It is a professional and successful and proud Legendary football club set in the highest of standards and we need to continue with our high standards to maintain our Legendary status
We shall not allow Mediocracy to bring Manly down to its knees***

At last a little adventure. Miski in for Garrett, Schuster at 18. Will Des keep Schuster back one or two games like he's done with others who appear for the first time or will Schuster maybe get a spot off the bench. I'm beginning to get excited for the first time since the opening rounds. Now. Where's Burbo 😛

... and ... and ... and then I read GoJetSki will start in the 2nd row .... and then I went all grumpy again ....

Still a chance 12 points will be equal last place. If not for DCE's field goal in Rd 2, Manly would still 100% be in the wooden spoon hunt. I'm not entirely convinced Manly still can't finish in last place. More chance the Dogs & Foran jagging four wins (Titans, Manly, Souths, Penrith) than Manly getting one win against anybody at all.

The biggest factor in this game the first 20 minutes more so than any other week.

Both clubs down on confidence, if one team plays heads up smart footy then can see the other team dropping there heads with the mentality of " here we ago, another game we won't win".

Hope we can at least compete this week but tigers could easily win by 30 if they are switched on.

Maybe DCE, maybe Funa but I also believe Miski's a goalkicker. Guess they'll have a "kick-off" to see who's the best one... I think DCE has enough on his plate without the added pressure of goalkicking but we shall see.
I kinda think that DCE was playing much better when he had the goal kicking duties before Garrick took over last year?????
