There is absolutely no way that Dessie will only start with the one prop on the bench against the Eels. I can see Sipley coming onto the bench (about time too) in place of Gosiewski. Surely Garrick & Taufua are on their last chance as both are struggling. Reuben Garrick definitely as part of the reason he is in the starting side is because of his goal kicking. As he is struggling with that and he is doing too much sideways running , I would look at Abbas Miski as he at least just runs forward .

I wouldn't say Garrick is struggling in general play. Goal kicking yes, but not in his game play. The problem is that our attack has been so lame, and he's been shifted from wing to fullback and back to the wing, that he simply hasn't been given many opportunities to score or to show his pace this year.

Jorge on the other hand is quickly approaching the point of not offering anything as an NRL winger any more, if he's not already there. He's arguably the slowest full time winger in the comp by a fair margin. He's lazy in defence and as we saw on Sunday prone to the odd brain explosion. He's 50/50 at best under any high ball kicked his way and he's certainly not a candidate to score a try from a bomb unless we somehow come up with the ball and go 90 metres to score on the play (which without Turbo and Walks in the side is unlikely as neither Parker or Jorge on that side of the field are going to run the length without being caught).

Miski might be an option, but right now I'd be more inclined to go with Funa or to give Hopoate his shot. Jorge just doesn't offer anything anymore.

Scarred at attending both the 82/83 Grand Finals and walking away empty handed!!

Unfortunately though it has to be said that as good as we were back then, the Worms had a very good side themselves. I hate to admit it but Sterling, Grothe, Ella, Cronin, Price, Muggleton, Edge and especially Kenny were very good players that Jack Gibson had playing very well.

Doesn't lessen the pain though.

The Eels have suffered a huge blow ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manly with star back-rower Ryan Matterson tipped to be ruled out with a thumb injury.
It’s likely that Marata Niukore will come into the starting side and promising forward Andrew Davey will make his NRL debut off the bench.

A debut is a well-deserved reward for Davey who was named the Eels’ Canterbury Cup player of the year 2019.

They were disappointing loses but we dont have to chain our selves hostages to the past
Since then our club has had more premiership winning success than the eels and no Wooden
spoons . Saturday night we be the Sea eagles night

Didn't we beat Parramatta 21-0 or something similar at some point in the finals in 1982 or 1983?

The bloke is only 22 yo and I think this is only the 2nd time he has started a game .... still has time on his side ....

Some of you mark a very hard scorecard ...
This is true. But let's be honest here, Fonua-Blake is shorter, weighs less and is not even 2 years older. If you are to be in the top 4 best props of your club in this brutally physical competition, you need some aggro. Kingy wasn't the biggest, nor the best metre-eater but he belted c****! I say we give Saddler a go. When the other team is intimidated by your middles, all of a sudden average players out wide begin to shine. The game of league is a deadset war - you need blokes in the middle that froth at the collision! Bring back georgie rose

Yeah that's what makes those years even harder. We beat them 20-0 in the 1982 Semi's, and 19-10 in the 1983 Semi's. Unfortunately though they won the one's that counted.

They've basically said they would play if it was an important game. I tell ya they are going in complacent here and a sh*t club like them won't cope. Manly is desperate, they're not. Ambush coming. Manly by 4.
There is some extra motivation for the playing group there!!!
