Petition to Stephen Humphreys

This is how I see our present dilemma.

1-Tommy Turbo is the lifeblood of this side, closely followed by Manase Fainu. All one needs to do is go back and watch Fainu's impact during our 2019 season. Turbo didn't play in the finals and missed a large chunk of the year, yet we almost made a preliminary final.

2-No one can predict injuries, and if we didn't re-sign Turbo EVERY last Manly fan would have been screaming from the rooftops. Api is injured again I see.

3-The Fainu brothers are all going to be stars. Watch their efforts yesterday. If we didn't show loyalty to Manase, then we inadvertently lose the other boys as well. Oh yeah, he still hasn't been found guilty in a court of law either.

4-Dce's contract. That has nothing to do with Des.

5-If Turbo comes back and plays out the season, we win more than we lose. It ain't rocket science.

6-We are moving in the right direction with the signing of Haumole, Paseka, Keppie, Schuster, Aloiai, Saab, and Tuipulotu.

7-The pathways program is providing the club with the best junior talent in the world.

8-I choose to be patient because I believe the wheel will turn.

9-I don't believe instability, division and upheaval is the answer right now.

10-Who do you replace Hasler with? We are still paying the price for sacking a Manly legend in Geoff Toovey, and the thought of having another untried outsider in the coaching box gives me a headache.

11-I love the club and care about results.
11. I love the club and care about the results as all of us do and this is why we are all pissed off
10. Every ones peak time comes to an end and every one is Replaceable and not all out siders are untried and unproven .
9. Passionate supporters that ask valid questions do not bring instability but demand answers and accountability
8 . We have been patient but we are also passionate and we do not like to see our Manly team go down without a fight without resilience and with out a clue on the field because at Manly we have standards . Now days we just don not lose we get thrashed and this is not acceptable in our proud history
7. The path way to success is not to wait for juniors and get to miss making the finals
The pathway to success is doing what the Bench Mark storm do and that is to make things happen and not to wait for things to happen
6. We are moving in the right direction ?
We have most of these players playing for us Haumole, Paseka, Keppie, Schuster, Aloiai, Saab, and Tuipulotu. Including DCE , Walker , Kappow Jake , and we are heading south to the spoon
5. If Turbo comes back we win ?
Well coached teams are not a one man winning team
4. DCEs contact does not have anything do do with Des but DCEs performance on the field does .
3. see no 7
2. No one can predict injuries and every team gets injuries but not every team gets constant thrashing like we have been and cannot even win a home game
1. see no 5

The moral of the story
Professionals do not get paid to give excuses
Professionals get paid to give solutions and Success
Des is supposed to be Professional coach who is not earning his keep

Its not about naysayers. I'm a supporter of the club just like you. I feel the pain just like you.
I get where Bomb Voyage is coming from but turning on ourselves and the club we love isn't the answer.
Good for you getting 10k to support a Brookvale upgrade. That's something to be proud of and a worthy cause. I would say it's a lot different to marching on the club demanding change thou.
And you know what. We need all types of fans. Happy, supportive, angry, frustrated and the list goes on.
I've been here since 2014 and I really feel this is as poisonous as I've seen it it's only round 3 for ** sake. Can we not get some perspective and calm the ** down just a little bit.

Mate, we had a similar circumstance previously, where the members and fans got together, and pulled together an extra-ordinary meeting that was actually cast to our members. It added plenty of value, and from that meeting, tangible changes occurred. It was done respectfully, appropriately, and formally.

Fans wanted answers, and got quite a lot that night.

I wish I could find some media about it (and it was possibly done prior to you being here) - does anyone else recall this?

Now, you "keep" saying perspective, and "it's only 3 games". Not sure if you're trying to get a rise in saying that, but it's not. It's 13 losses in 14 games. It's record after record (not in a good way) getting smashed (i.e. clubs worst ever defeat in 75 years, a player scoring more against us in one game ever, losing streak possibly). It's also off field issues. It's team selections.

Are you wanting people to ignore all this, to conform with your way of thinking? Maybe pretend it all didn't or isn't happening, so it can be roses?

Thanks mate. That's your opinion, and I have my own. Only time will tell which of us is right.

I never posted that asking questions is not the right thing to do. Nor did I mock, ridicule or belittle anybody.

Cheers.

Kev and Eagle rock, you are both right, but your not balancing your perspective and being honest with the where we’re at, it’s not just magically going to turn around and come good, (like one win will turn it all around, what rubbish) even when Tom and if Manse returns. There are so many glaring deficiencies it hurts, even if we get both those boys back and start to play better and win a few games, the underlying issues that exist will still exist and the pathway to success along with it is clouded at best.
1) it’s blindingly obvious our roster is a mess, no depth, lack of speed, recruitment and retention issues, contract debacles, the list goes on
2) our ability to adapt to the changes in the game, speed again, our fitness is wrong, we are playing heavy and paying the price, it affects our line speed and stamina, you only have to watch any game to see how far off we are (I’ve mentioned junior paulo‘s strip down and even RCG mentioned controlling his weight last night post match interview, BA is all over ripping his players for speed and stamina, we have failed so badly at getting this right, on a positive it can be improved, but only when Des a) acknowledges it and b) makes the necessary changes to his process. Parra run for over 2300 metres last night, BA challenged them to brake 2000m after just missing it in the last 2 weeks, compare our metres and face the reality of it.
3) where leaderless on and off the field, the culture appears toxic and is stuck in a bubble that will burst, l‘m manly through and though, but its time to look outside the bubble and become more professional with regard to our future, the sport is bigger than only manly people can succeed at or with manly, no wonder where dying a slow death, the sport has changed and we have not, we in fact have looked backwards for the answers and it has flopped badly.
4) Des is in charge of the team and unfortunately has to be held accountable and time has come, we all know the stats, what club would accept it, least of all upgrade it, I’m lost, I’ve been harsh on Des and I don’t think it’s misguided, I’m not going to list all the issues, there’s to many, I can’t support what’s going on it’s madness, we need a massive shake down, not more of the same, the buck stops with Des for our on field results and you say be patient and I say I have been, if I could see light at the end of the tunnel I’d be on your side, but I’ve said it before the light is fading and there are dark times ahead under our present structure, we either face up to it and look for improvement or continue down the path we have suffered or more importantly are suffering.
5) There is so more but it’s not worth delving into it in depth, if you don’t think we need to face up to the problems at our club and think that sticking with the status quo will be the way forward, then it wouldn’t matter what I wrote anyway, failing to acknowledge failure will not bring success, that is at the heart of all this, I’m manly for life and we’re in a mess, you can’t berry you heads in the sand, examine the facts and own up to what’s happening with our once proud club because it’s a shambles. I respect your beliefs and passion for our club but I just think it’s time for change based on the facts.

Someone suggested perspective, which is always a good thing. I would suppose that 2019 might provide some of that perspective.

This is the team that ran out against the Raiders on 25/9/19, to win their 8th game out of the last 10, on the way to the finals that year. It was just a bit over 18 months ago.

I am all for this and would like to see improvement quickly. Sick of putting on my colours only to have the missus tell me why are you wearing that rabble. Would like to see a day come where we at least can catch a ball again. We were that bad against a less than average dragons side that i was seriously thinking we were throwing the game deliberately. Geeze we are going from bad to worse. If we get the wooden spoon this year with the players we have currently then i am done with this club. We have rep players playing for us and still we look like school kids. Off field dramas have been at the helm of all of this and our club has become a bloody stepping stone.

They have the right to tell des it aint working and to change the playing roster up and give others opportunity to prove themselves..just cause some train well doesnt meen they play well come game time for example croker..i have played rep sports with guys that put minimal effort in training but come game time they are guns..play others and see what they can provide which is needed for future cleanout..see who we want and get rid of what we dont need..we really cant go any worse..alot of people were saying bring schuster in slowly...why slowly..he is playing extremely well..who knows harper could be developing into a sum what decent fb if he was given his chance in rd 1 after trial..he would be 4 games in now and who knows could be killing it but instead des is killing walker
I'm still trying to work out why we only had the one trial this year. Who knows, those youngsters who may not have performed the best during that one trial because of nerves or whatever may have had blinders in a second or third trial but what did we do? We have only one trial and give them only one chance to shine and because they didn't for whatever reason, Des appears to have written them off and instead he keeps picking the same underperforming incompetent plodders and playing others out of position and only brings the young ones into the side when he is forced to because of injuries.

Yeah i didnt get the one trial thing either...i understand not wanting to risk your key players. But we look so unfit and off the pace that surely more game day practice surely could have helped. Looks like it may not have mattered anyway in terms of our current record, but i don't think that the point

Hi LGK,

I appreciate the point you are trying to make with this; however, there a three things to point out here:

1) That was a year and half ago - much has changed

2) We had in that side the second best fullback in the world, two excellent hookers and AFB - none of which we currently have (granted Tom will come back but for how long?)

3) Most importantly, you are looking at one variable in the equation: the team. The other variable in the equation that is not considered here is the game itself. The game has changed, the rules have changed, the type of football that wins games, along with the body types best suited to this game have all changed. Our coach and his staff have done nothing effective in this regard. Perhaps you forgive them for last year since it was sprung on the clubs as a result of the COVID break (some teams adjusted immediately - we didn't).

However, for it to still be a problem with full knowledge of the new game and the results we achieved last year, leaves no excuses for the lack of adjustment. Not only this, but as many have said, Des knew Tom's ongoing issues with his body (as experienced last year). He also knew we had no genuine hooker. Those two positions are vital and yet nothing was done to recruit for them. That in itself is unforgivable when blind Freddy knew that would be a problem.

I'm all for sticking by your team, but sticking by your team doesn't involve pretending there aren't major issues when there clearly are. When you love your team you want what is best for it and sometimes that means calling them out so that necessary change can come.

I also think the eventual replacement coach is in the system already. That could be Ballin, Monaghan or Chad, who’s still hanging around (boom, boom).

They still need more time to develop.
