To lose is always tough .I must admit when some of these "' ST members "" come on in game day when we are getting beaten and voicing opinions that so and so cant play, not 1st grade standard, should be gone ,hopeless, no desire etc etc really irritate me which I guess is their purpose. I never respond to any of them, as I dont think merciless pillaring of someone who is playing one of the toughest sports in the world for MANLY deserves that TBH.
As for Refs I try and look at things with 2 eyes but I find extreme frustration with the reffing esp last night and the Cummins episode where it just looks like we are being managed out of the game by the use of unseen and unknown crimes resulting in mysterious 6 agains penalties ,missed fouls on our players etc and the list goes on .That bloke was appalling along with the dopes on the sideline and reffed one side only and was a disgrace ,and I still think that in the clear light of day .

Anyways onto next week I really hope we have at least Croker and Jake back and that Hamole and Josh A are ok so we can face the Rorters at full throttle .
I hate losing esp to inferior teams and incompetent officiating but this is sport so it does happen
Go Manly
Agree.
It seems that the refs pull a lot of six agains early in the match which somewhat sets the tone, we were on the back foot from pretty much the get go.
Would love to see the stats on six agains for each 20 minute block.
They seem to like to square up penalties but not six agains.

Also, last night goes to show how important the service from dummy half is.
The Dragons service from dummy half got them on the front foot nearly every set ( how many were bordering on forward?) which is where the big difference was.
Walker would be flat out dictating a memo yet he was expected to dictate our tempo.
DCE and Foz didn't stand a chance especially without Jake being the conduit.

An overreaction? I think not.
When is the team ever going to be able to play wet weather football?
When is the team ever going to beat Illawarra away from home?
When will "promising" players such as Keppie and Tent fulfil their promise? This was the match when these two, in particular, had to shoulder more responsibility and shine. Neither have proven that they will ever be good First Graders.
This was the match when the downslide of The Shoe became a freefall. What has happened to this precocious talent this season warrants an overreaction.

I know it’s par for the course on Silvertails, but is the majority of folks response to the Dragons loss,an overreaction? We’ve got people(usual suspects)suggesting several players should be dropped and never see first grade again,we have people suggesting other players should of been picked despite those players not even being available(a bugbear of mine as it shows those people don’t do their research yet want to come on ST puffing their chest out)and we have people who just love to blame the refs every week that Manly lose. The facts are,the team has been very good the past 6 weeks, even in the heartbreaking loss to the Cows.Other than the Panthers, every team that wins a few in a row eventually hit a wall at some stage.Penalty counts/6 agains have gone Manly’s way in that time. Many of the much maligned players like Harper and Saab, have been very good in that period.Last nights result was so predictable that I backed the Dragons @$2.35.Even in Manly’s prime over the last 20 yrs, they still struggled against St.George away. For some reason they’re Manly’s bogey side. The players ruled out due to Covid was a big factor given all 3 are classed as “work horses” whilst 2 of them regularly rack up 60+ tackles combined a week. The loss of Croker hurt the most as the back ups were also unavailable. And if Manly fans haven’t realised yet,it was wet and Manly/DCE,turns into the Wicked Witch of the West when there’s the slightest chance of precipitation within a 10km radius of a ground.Other than the potential injury concerns,I think this game should be just forgotten and move onto next week. The side still controls its own destiny and a win next week moves them back into the 8
100%. We were never going to win last night, never do against that mob. Now I know how sharks fans feel when they play us. Lol. Just mark it as an L and move on.

It is complicated.
The previous 5 weeks we spanked our opposition(apart from a total of about 18 minutes which was baffling) and there were some good teams there.
Last night we missed the 3 workhorses and the reffing was a bit off.
You would hope that players picked would do the job and it would be next man up scenario and that was not the case with a few players performances less than desired.
Des did his usual stick with his guys last night, with a number of guys out and an unusual circumstance he could have gone differently.
He could have tried GCKT as a starter or having a specialist 9 on the bench,he could have had De Luis in at 13 to play a defensive game and play long minutes as he can and therefore allowing the other forwards to be rotated as usual and then switch him to prop and bring on Roumanos who is a poor man's Jake(no offense to him)
For me I think just let it go and move on to next week, but each to their own....
We also lost two forwards in a match where we were already low on the workhorse 3. Made it tough. Reffing at times was poor and weather sucked too. I’ve moved on. Easts will be a big game next week. Need to stand up in that one.

As for the over reacting on ST, I feel that over the past couple of seasons there's been a real negative shift, overtaking good football conversations and the sharing of some great humour. There are some really quick witted people on here that crack me up and can make me feel better after a loss. After all, it's a game.
Now it seems there's just constant player bagging, coach bagging, club bagging, even after wins..
I spend less and less time on here now as the negativity gets me down.
*I do confess to be a huge supporter of ref bagging though.;)
Society knows so much more about mental health these days but negativity rules the internet. Such a shame.
Peace out Silvertails.
Go Manly!

I never blame the refs for a loss.. ever… but last night, especially that first half, was an absolute embarrassment that needs to be reviewed…

That fact that the possession was 17 to 5 after 25 minutes and every single set we got hammered with penalties and 6 agains was as blatant cheating as it gets…

Literally, every set we got punished for something, and every single 50/50 call went against us…

Second half we had plenty of chances and couldn’t get it done, but in those conditions, giving them the 12 pt start and forcing us to defend 4x the amount they did really is what cost us that game

I certainly don't think most have over reacted. That was a putrid attacking second half.. no if buts or maybes. The only two people responsible for that are Foran and DCE. Now Foran tried his heart out but his handling errors and the lack of direction from him and DCE caused that loss. They just didn't steer the side around.. some of our sets in that second half were a disorganised rabble. That certainly was a game we could have, would have, should have won without any questions. The Dragons were ordinary and we had them on the rack the whole second half but a lack of direction and the handling errors just killed us. I understand that the three outs were huge and the Croker out was huge but gee it is not hard for a half/five eighth to say okies we are playing this pattern from here or this pattern or we are taking two to the posts for a spin for two to the posts for a kick. At times that second half was comical with players runing around behind other players, players having no clue who was taking the ball up, dummy half passes going to nobody as three players stood there looking at the ball hit the ground. A shambles. What it did prove to me though is our defence was still pretty solid although passive in line speed without Jake. And it certainly reinforced that Burbo is simply not up to First Grade standard and his tackling technique is woeful with his head on the wrong side in that tackle but his efforts in general - average. Schuster was also very very average. If he is our 5/8 in waiting... my goodness he will want to get his act together and quick. He was great as a backrower last year but his effort, desire and even skill levels this year are certainly questionable. Last night he was just a body.. I think he tried hard but he really didn't add anything in attack. His defence seemed solid but again.. he is just a defender - certainly nothing special in defence. This was a huge huge loss for us. A win would make our way to the 8 sooo much easier although still not guaranteed but we would have been looking pretty solid. The loss to me has almost killed our chances off. The reality is as well... no matter with those COVID outs... no matter the injuries during the game... no matter the refereeing... no matter the weather.... that Dragons side was so so average and a win was there to be easily taken with some decent attack and we blew it. And as I said I think that has almost killed our 2022 chances and yet I firmly believe we have a side even without Turbo as good as the Roosters, Eels, Rabbits at least and yet we will now probably finish 9th - arghhh! And that is why at least I am upset... a game totally thrown away. I certainly don't think my reaction or the reaction of most to that insipid second half is an overreaction or the normal Silvertails wrist slitting exercise. Just a rational response and a rational assessment of a loss we should not have had.
Still a lot of footy to be played this year mate. We might surprise a few yet. At best we might make the 8 snd get an extra week or two of footy. Guac was also a passenger out there. I mean they basically avoided going right the entire second half. Plus losing the two as well as having the other 3 out and it really is a different game. We probably struggle against the bottom two teams under those circumstances.

I totally agree!

I try to maintain a positive attitude about most things & will look for a solution when faced with a challenge but yeah, it surprises me at how many people just chuck a wobbly & announce it's the end of the world at the first sign of adversity on here.

I certainly don't encounter as much negativity in real life as I do on here.

Yeah I was getting frustrated in the first half as well. Tbh the officiating in this sport is abhorrent and we are not the only team impacted. It’s part of the reason my care factor for the sport has decreased significantly over the past couple of seasons. The game v Parra might be the worst display I’ve ever witnessed. Since that night and the lack of recognition of how bad it actually was in the media really lost me. I just find it hard watching a game where each time you know theres a high chance you will be left frustrated due to the performance of the refs. It gets to the point of why bother.

The thing that really got my goat last night was the ref allowing Saints to have their hands all over the ball & hang on forever when tackling us - McCullough especially.

I don't recall any specific penalty or 6 again for us for that particular tactic.

Classic Tezza@:D
I don't think 'the young persons' know what they are. Apostrophes are an issue too. Insults though, they're world champs.

There needs to be long sentences and lots of commas. Peter FitzSimons weekend columns and Father's Day books offer an acceptable style guide for most posters.

I’d like to see a stat on captains challenge . Manly win a lot of them. They won 2 last night
Depends which way you look at it but if Manly are winning a lot it could make you believe there is a bias the ref gets a lot of calls wrong when they officiate Manly

a game we should never have lost... no matter the circumstances in my mind. St George are ordinary as!

Maybe, and maybe not.
Sure we had our share of problems to overcome, thing is the game was still winnable and we had a lot to play for.
The Goons had their share of issues as well. No Ravalawa, No Suli and they lost Ramsey early, that‘s 3 pretty big outs for them, then.
They have conceded over 80 points the last 2 weeks, 42 in the second half against the Chooks.
They miss more tackles than any other side in the comp.
They leak more points than any other side in the Comp, first 20 mins of the second half.
And we can‘t construct a single point in the second half against that rubbish.
Whats the point of throwing up the excuses, the outs, the ref, the weather, the boggy side, etc, that’s all BS, we should of been so up for this game given what was at stake, it’s a hard one to swallow, even considering our circumstances, if it was against a side we had no chance of beating, fair enough.
We have just come off a really good month of footy and had a golden opportunity to cement ourselves in the 8. I think losing this game is up there with throwing the game away against the cows.
The Chooks have played themselves back into form over the last couple of weeks and will be right up for the game next week. We blew a golden opportunity to build something special out of last nights game and now face a tuff game next week to keep our season on track.
I hope we get all our lads back next week, Guac and Aloiai are ok and we can just move on from this week, winning last night would of had such a positive effect, anyway time to let go and look forward to next week, which will be pretty much a season defining game, on a positive I’m glad it’s back at Brookie.

Which is exactly what is getting fans wound up. Why do Penrith and some other special clubs never cop what looks like they are being singled out for the night by the ref? Why were Manly repeatedly hammered earlier in the season and then Des copped $25K fine? Last night was a return to earlier in the season? Statistically, Penrith & co should have by the end of July run into at least one "just back luck" night of decisions go against them?
You do make your own "luck" by playing up tempo footy. If your defensive line speed is good and you are giving the impression of dominating tackles you'll get some leeway. If you were like us last night, sitting and waiting and struggling to control the ruck speed then the ref is going to err on the side of going against you because you aren't sending a message of being up for the contest. Same when you have the ball, if you are meekly submitting in tackles or getting hit before the ad line and driven back and not fighting for every inch, then the ref will give the benefit to the defence as they are sending a positive intent of trying to dominate. I've said it many times before, we aren't a team that wants to fight and scrap in the tackle when we are in possession. The good teams always managed to get tangled up with the tackler or manage to isolate a marker by pushing through the mark or sideways. How many times last night did Lomax "accidently" end up between Harpers legs when getting up to play the ball and essentially take him out of play ?? We just never seem to do that stuff. Or if we do, we haven't managed to make it the subtle art that fools the refs.

I have for years on Silvertail's seen and heard people strain and stretch to find and make excuses for just about any loss or poor performance ..

And then ... bugger me ... the one game in 10 years when excuses and reasons are falling from the trees ..

1 Jake ruled out with covid 2 days before ..
2 Croker ruled out the day before with covid
3 Davey ruled out the day before covid
4 Our back-up hooker Seggyaro out injured
5 Haumole injured early and a passenger for 70 mins
6 Ben T knocked out early and gooorne
7 Keppie injured and goorne after 20 mins
8 miserable wet conditions
9 A royal REF rooting ..
10 All normal cohesion upset ..

... Everybody is screaming NO EXCUSES WE ARE SHIITE!!!
