I think it was about this time last year I commented that I felt like I'd spent my entire life being let down by the Blues so I didn't get emotionally into Origin any more. Now I can just enjoy the football. Hell give me four or five more Manly premierships in my lifetime and I won't care if the Blues never win a game again!

Send off! There wasn't even a penalty! Supercoach Billy was also almost as complicit in Brett being knocked out as Crocker was. Sualli's hit was much more of an accident than the tackle on Brett. Hypocrisy at the highest level from the grub with his view on last night's tackle.

Yeah, Crocker for me was the biggest grub of all. That sort of tackle by the Storm cheat would of attracted a 6+ week suspension such was the deliberate nature of the hit on Brett.

Some thoughts on Origin 1

Game was over in 8th minute. I don't care about the 'team played brave' crap, you don't win origin with a man down - to do so devalues the whole concept. Qld might actually do it, but that's only coz they have such an inferiority complex north of the border.

So the fact that:

• Jake played 29mins
• H'Mole played 23mins
• Both are uninjured (phew) and probably chomping at the bit to get back out there.

I'm cool with that.

We didn't need them leading the charge. They will play Sunday. Alternative was throwing them into a no-win - plenty of Blues heart in that futile effort sure, but it was never even a contest.

Madge isn't the answer for the blues - his post-game conference was whingey and bitter. And meanwhile picking Cobbo on the bench for Billy was probably the most lucky, accidental genius act of origin since Fatty's goddam team of '95.

Poor Jake at the post-game conference was looking at Madge like a hungry dog, waiting on his treat. Jake's loyalty is unwavering, but don't throw youself on a grenade targeting Madge mate. Meanwhile DCE's body-language at the Qld conference is such a contrast. Guy has just toyed with the best the South can offer, and just sits there picking apart his team's flaws and promising bigger things.

Jake didn't get his Origin fix, poor guy - but he'll get more....probably only for this year though. DCE though, wow he put on a show even if it was against 12. What a player and captain, at that level, at his age! They sent Haas at him on purpose time and again to soften him up, and he just rolled with it, and then rolled away with it when he smelt blood. I'm SO sick of the "aging like fine wine" crap - its so unoriginal and un-NRL like (says he drinking a not-so-fine overheated wine in Singapore...) - since when did NRL players/supporters become wine connoisseurs? Thought they were just beer-charging-til-i-puke-on-me-mate types. Can @Silvertails please come up with a better "Aging like...." analogy? I'll buy @Ranga a drink (a aging fine wine..?) if you do

Nicho Hynes was - according to Fantasy Pts - the best of NSW. Yet again proves how litttle NRL Fantasy captures the real performance metrics of a game (trusty foxsports commentators are calling for him to be dropped for Moses - which would be harsh given the circumstances).

And on Foxsports and the other media scum, I am enjoying their heartily confused reaction to the Walsh hit - On one hand they have been crying out for the biff all week, whinging all year on how NRL is going soft and wokey, and how they need to up the ante in Origin before players start wearing rainbow jerseys each week, giving acknowledgement to country before and after each tackle, freeing the whales from offshore wind-turbines, and kneeling for the national anthem.

Suali'i (accidentally) delivers on their prayers for violence, and they dunno where to go with it.

It ruined the contest...!? But it's also not ok to face-ram a player....is it? Even if he was slipping? Courier mail says nay, Daily Tele says yay, but they 2 sides of the same coin, same Org. But we also need to (pretend to) show concussion concern coz Wally....and besides Newscorp owns a club or 3 and whilst they kinda stoked the fire to boost their product ....they asked for this all week....they now can't condone what they asked for, else they not looking after player safety, but also the series is dead now, and the ratings.... and......AAAAAAHHHHH!

I've heard various comments last night and today about how well all the Qld players played, they're so skilled and put on a great game, blah blah blah.
Of course they were excellent - they were playing against a team with one man down for 73 minutes!! There were also bigger gaps between players covering for the missing man in the Blues team, making it easier for the Maroons to get through and score without even using their talents.

I would've thought such judgements on performances would be fairer if made on a level playing field. After a 13 vs 13 game, if one team plays superbly then sure, the accolades are well deserved, but not when that team has a one player advantage.

Sorry for rant but I've finally got this off my chest.

As for NSW , Their coach has shown enough to Puzzle his nsw People with his Perplexing on field decisions and his teams selections
So it seems its back to the drawing board for nsw with team changes for game 2
Whilst the Maroons will be building up their winning momentum with their settled line up
That's enough to have the Maroons People Beaming with confidence .

Never rated Madge as a great coach especially after watching Tiger town. Always seemed lost and not very tactical when speaking to the group. And to leave out the captain of the state for most of the game, who he said epitomises what NSW is all about, says a lot on the type of coach he is. If I had a choice for NSW coach I'd go Fitzy but he's tied to the gummies. Great NSW player and great defender. That's just my opinion.
Positive for Jakey is that he's fresh and gets to backup and rip in

Too many workers and not enough power and speed in the team picked for game 1. If you're only playing guys off the bench for 20 minutes pick guys that can give you 20 mins of high intensity footy.

Only Haas plays more than 25 minute stints at FRF.
Haumole covers edge BR and can play middle in an emergency.
Love Jake and McInnes in club land but there is no need for 3 80 min middles in Origin and Yeo has more strings to his bow.
Hynes style doesn't work against the best defences and his kicking game is atrocious.
Edwards is now comfortably better than Teddy who tried hard but didn't do enough to prove Madge was wrong to pick Edwards in the original squad.

The Mole: Nine players axed, new captain dumped in Blues team Madge must pick for State of Origin II​

Attack, attack, attack.

That's the only way New South Wales can save the State of Origin series after last night's disastrous start in Sydney.

Everyone is pointing to the dismissal of Joseph Suaalii as the reason the Blues lost, but make no mistake, Queensland were already well on top before Suaalii almost took Reece Walsh's head off.
They had split the Blues defence open several times, had already scored the opening try and were actually mounting another long raid into Blues territory when Suaalii snapped.
Blues coach Michael Maguire went into the game with a plan to blunt Queensland's brilliant attack with tackling dynamos like Cam McInnes and Reece Robson.

But that was never going to work once the Blues were reduced to 12 men and now major surgery is required to square the series in Melbourne.

I'd bring in eight new players – fullback Dylan Edwards, Souths' Latrell Mitchell, boom Raiders five-eighth Ethan Strange, Eels half Mitchell Moses, Warriors duo Mitch Barnett and Wayde Egan, Souths forward Cam Murray and Tigers hooker Api Koroisau.

All are attacking specialists who have the speed and daring to give the pacey Maroons a run for their money.
So, who should go?

Sadly, I can't find a place for skipper Jake Trbojevic given the bizarre way he was used last night. If a captain is going to play less than half an hour and make a mere 37 metres from five runs, there's just no point having him there.

Jake is Origin through and through, but if that's the way the Blues are going to use him he needs to go.

NSW will get more value out of Barnett, a player capable of big minutes with the ability to bend the defensive line.

James Tedesco did a fine job as a late call-up but if Dylan Edwards is fit, he deserves his chance.
Suaalii wasn't up to the big occasion – and will probably be out suspended anyway – but Latrell is the man to come in and fill his shoes. Latrell has struggled at fullback at times but in the centres, he has the size and speed to worry Queensland.

I called for Strange to be given a chance in game one, even though I knew he would not get picked. And he won't get a go in the return bout either, even though he's the form five-eighth of the Blues-eligible players.

The teenager has played only a handful of NRL games but is fearless and already looks a 100-game veteran.

I'd pick him for Jarome Luai, who tried hard to spark the Blues but missed nine tackles, several of which led to tries. The Maroons clearly like playing against Luai and have had great success in recent years targeting him in defence.
Moses is a no-brainer – I would have added him to the squad after his brilliant display in his comeback from injury last weekend. He will replace Nicho Hynes, who still hasn't quite mastered this level of football.

Playing two speedy hookers out of dummyhalf – Harry Grant and Ben Hunt – works great for the Maroons, and NSW need to do the same.

Egan has been the secret ingredient in the Warrors' successes over the past 18 months and Koroisau is superb around the ruck with his pace and ball skills.

Murray should be fit again and will bring more to the team than McInnes, who tried his heart out, but lacked the attacking strike power to worry Queensland.

I kind of agree and even have a gut feeling Walsh may of played it a tad, first point of contact wasn’t even the head, might of banged the back of his head on the ground when he got folded, which was beautiful by the way, had plenty of looks now and then he passes his HIA, having been properly concussed you don’t come back or pass that test.

As for Forehead, read a quote today about him giving Suaalii some words on the way off, poster said something along the lines, that’s big coming from a bloke who’s famous for sh1ting in the hallway and letting Gall punch his head in.

The game was ruined as soon as the send off happened. It didn't even feel like an Origin match after that point because the contest was over. But once again I think the Blues will lose the series in the selection room.

Nothing to laugh about the NSW Blues Loss @mickqld and the way Madge lost his marbles and his morals by Benching his teams leader . How Embarrassing and Humiliating that must have been for Jake sitting on the bench for the majority of the game surrounded by a packed to the rafters home crowd
I dont think the Benched Blues captain would have felt quite at home as he sat their looking perplexed at his players going down to the Might of the Maroons .

How Hypocritical of the NSW coach to say pre game that he appointed Jake as captain to make a strong point to his team that Jake is all about the passion that the Blues stand for and when it mattered most and NSW were under the pump he had Jake sitting on his arse on the bench .
How Degrading that must have been . But that is NSW for you .

The Maroons have always been about passion and have always cause hysteria and chaos for the Blues who always lose their composure and the game and 2024 game One was another example as the Blues had succumbed to another chaotic capitulation
