On the Wings of Eagles .. The great debate ..

Why the surprise ... I have on occasion visited the fiction section of the library ...

You may well be correct ... I have watched TupaLoopa play and he looks like a complete footballer ...

Now Saab may be the next big thing ..but I don't know .. All I have seen are highlights where he runs well ... but I do not know how he goes at kick returns, hit ups, catching bombs, tackling and muscling up ... if he is the complete package .. t- Tippytoes not quite but yes in time I am hoping they are both on the wings - but then we need a kicker - not sure DCE is that keen.
hen happy days .. I will shout his praises, and finish with " ... Blessed are the tall and fast .. for they shall inherit the wing spot "
Oh yes - Tippytoes in my mind will be the better player. In time ie 20022 he might well end up being a fabulous Centre! I agree totally with you that he seems a more complete player. Just based on a Manly statement when they signed I am guessing they think Saab is totally ready now.

I'll grab the 5/1 on Saab Woodsie....
I think the fight is between him, Garrick and Toopaloopa - with Garrick the leader of the pack.
I can't see Parker there at any odds with Funa and others to get a gig if these 3 are injured or play themselves out of a spot....

Parker would not even be training on the wing with the players we have in the squad. It’s Just a ridiculous utterance from a stubborn mule.

Can someone please explain why we never played Martin Bella on the wing? Most wingers would run a country mile so they didn't have to tackle him. Sure, it would have taken a year or two for him to run the length of the field, but he'd have scored at least.

OK, OK, jokes aside ... I think we'll start the season with Saab and Garrick on the wings. I can see the new boy, all 199 cm (6'7") of him, getting a lot of high kicks going his way, especially from Foz, and hopefully we see the ball get wider out to Garrick to use his pace a lot more than we saw in 2020. As for Garrick's goal kicking ... I think we can all agree that he's not in the NRL's elite. A Matthew Ridge he is not. But if he can maintain at least a 75-80% average then it won't be too bad. And we do have Cherry as a back up at the very least so its not like Reubs is the only kicker we have.

Now whether or not we finish with those two on the wing remains to be seen.

I'm hoping he can get it up to 80%
All he has to do is stop shanking the ones in close. He missed maybe 10 to 12 of these in the last 2 seasons. He's kicking is ok, its just he has an absolute shocker occasionally. If he can get rid of this "shocker" then he could be elite and kick at above 80%

Centimental reasons Saab will be the next to debut for Manly.
But round one garrick and Funa.

Ezekiel 20:23

Yes, she lusted after their male prostitutes, whose members are like those of donkeys and who ejaculate like stallions.
You make it too easy and just prove how ignorant you really are.

This verse is a parable which uses the whorish behaviour of a pair of women as a metaphor for the unfaithful and ungodly behaviours of Israelites from two nations, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.

You're welcome

28" Isaiah 40:31 They That Wait Upon The Lord, Shall Renew Their Strength, They Shall Mount Up with Wings of Eagles, They Shall Run and Not Be Weary

Possible starting wingers ... for the season opener ... and my odds ..

Garrick ... incumbent and set for a big year .. even money
Tupaloopa ... bolter ... 2-1
Funa .. a good chance ... 3-1
Saab ... in contention .. 5-1
Harper .. an outsider ... 10-1
Parker .. would need a few injuries, a chance at centre if Suli out ... 15-1
Koula .. too early .. 30-1
Jorge ... injured ... 30-1
Sipley .. been on the outside all 2020 ... 100-1

This summation in the supercoach today

Christian Tuipulotu .. In just one game tupaloopa scored 67 points with 23 runs, 4 tackle busts, a linebreak and a try - all against the Melb Storm. That's the workrate we want from a winger and why Manly snapped him up ... etc etc
It's great that you've coined this catchy nickname for our new young winger, what a great sense of humour you have! I'm sure he'll love it! Hooka mooka loopa toopaloopa, I get it.

Garrick 's lower grade position was mainly as a centre i think but doubt that he would come into contention there with the current Manly outside back situation and when given the opportunity can be one of the better wing finishes going around . Still all of the contenders for a i st grade wing spot do not have any Devine right to be automatically selected and will have to earn it

Bit of topic with this present focus on wing talent but after watching a few footy highlights from the 90 's think it was a real shame for Manly that local junior Jack Elesgood did not have a longer and successful career with Manly . Brilliant finisher and elusive and would have held his own with any modern winger even though he was not of a robust built . Scored one of the great semi final tries for Manly against a top line Broncos in 93 or so and did not disagree with one of the commentator's comments at the time that he had the makings of a Manly great . Still showed some occasional really good touches for Manly but for a range of reasons [ including injury ] just were not of a long term or regular basis.

Didn't he fall fowl of Bozo? Dated his daughter?

Actually just in correlation with Woodsie "s interesting thread and betting odds reference . wonder how the wing contenders would go in a straight out foot race . This young koula is supposed to be a speedster , but Saab must be able to cover some distance fast , and Garrick can move once in the open . Then this Tuipuloi outside back who should be able to motor also . Funa can run but probably not to the level of some of the others Maybe someone more attuned then me for betting odds for the quickest over a 100 meter sprint . Have to insist that Sipley and Boyle are also given odds for a bit of competition

At least he can rest assured that you will be outraged on his behalf ...

Can't wait until you become an equal opportunity champion and have a go at people for calling Garrick "sandwich' ... or Parker a "Ranga" .. or GoJetSki "Jetski" ... or Ben T "Burbo" .. or Fulton "Bozo" ... or Randell "Igor" ... or Vautin "Fatty" ...or the totally inappropriate Lyon "Killer"

Will look forward to your endless quest to rid the world of the insidious practice of nicknames ....

Actually, C&C, Funa is a damn good goal kicker. I’m not certain of his percentages however, I’ve watched him kick them from the sidelines in the U20’s (old Holden Cup).

If the reports were correct that Des was prepared to swap Garrick for Saab (and they were only rumours and never happened), Garrick would be on the outer however, from some inside family knowledge at Gerroa where Garrick’s mum lives (and friends of his sister), it was never happening.

Guy Sebastian and Sally Fitzgibbon also live at Gerroa, when they’re not elsewhere (absolute God’s country) and it’s a pretty small but very tight community.

I wish I had, like my sister did, bought a house there when it was cheap. Less than 10 years ago - houses were around $400 to $500k and are now anything up to $4 million+ (With some renovation).

Gerroa is a beautiful spot with a fabulous beach for those who have never been there.
