NRL to pay Clubs to build country academies ..

Toowoomba. (Of all things the young fella made his league debut today in the Twba U7s comp)
All power to both of you, best day of my life first time I watched No.1 son play. Second best day, at a game half way through the season, my daughter Nat was wearing a NSW jumper, an opposition player apparently called her a "blue bitch", all I saw was the kid sprinting across the fields, Nat chased him down in 50metres, ankle tapped him, then sat on him. All in front of both teams. She is to this day a feisty no-nonsense red head with attitude, I love her dearly.

I had to take my young bloke to anger management theraphy after his 1st game
At my young blokes first tournament, at the end of the round robin, the coach took him off because he was pretty bashed and leaking a little blood, the young bloke snapped and read the Riot act to his coach demanding to be sent back in, the coach, a former NRL second rower, consulted me then sent him back in, the Big Man understood the passion. Not good fathering by today's standards, but I understand the passion.

It is much easier to teach a child to control his passion and turn it into a positive force ... than it is to try and instill passion into a child that has none ... my unsolicited advice to parents has always been to find something their child is passionate about ... if it's not footy, so what, it might be tennis, piano, or drawing or mathematics and science, doesn't matter ... as long as they love it, encourage them ...

Right on, my youngest always loved animals, she didn't get the score needed to get into uni as a Vet, but we encouraged her to take up vet nursing, she did the tech, then upgraded to head nurse through Uni courses, and this year graduated as a Vet out at Gatton. I've always been a stubborn bastard, it seems its genetic.

Fiji would be the pick, but since we are limited to nsw qld i vote same as Woodsie:
TEMORA nsw

Temora Junee, Cootamundra and Weast Wylong would be good. Doesnt have to be Manly - the Raiders would be good.

Junee and Coota no longer field a first grade teams in Group 9, and Temora are probably going around for the last time.

Rugby League is dead in the bush, probably beyond repair.

Just think the Diesels just over fifty years ago brought Mick Sullivan, the most capped test player in the world, to Australia for 3 years to play. Along the way has produced many league legends including Laurie Daley and Ray Warren, can no longer get a first grade side.

NRL teams have ripped the guts out of every bush comp every year for the past 40 years. Now its dead they are aiming at the islands and will kill the game their too. Pure greed from these vultures is killing off the games best breeding grounds.

RIP Bush footy.

Just a thought ... except for the oldest junior rep squad ... would it work to have each country group field all the teams in a Flegg and Matt's comp, rather than the current set-up where they are city based ... jointly funded by the NRL and a Club ... kids still living and playing their games in the bush towns ... and only move to the NRl club when they reach S.G. Ball .....

Up here when son was in Primary school, the QRL decided to promote league by buying any school who applied, full playing strip as a start point. After I started a recruitment drive at the school to bolster my sons outside team roster ( I got a Fijian lad, who's nickname was already "Tank") the headmaster applied for and received a full team strip. Its still parked in the Sports store unused. He never instituted League as a sport. But the fault lies with the QRL for being irresponsible with the money and having no end game.

The grandiose headline sets “build” but that is a metaphor. There won’t be 16 big sports buildings with gyms ovals and classrooms built all over the countryside.
They can follow the same "bricks and mortar" approach that existing academies have used, such as kick the tin with Nudgee College, and share their facilities.

If the NRL really want to raise the profile of the game in regional areas they should start by moving their own headquarters to the country. If they set up in Bathurst or Tamworth people in regional areas would feel like more than an unappreciated nursery for the big city teams.

Standby for the Roosters and Melbourne to be handed the best areas so they can claim to produce Jnrs into the future. Melbourne won't have to develop their own country areas. The areas should be drafted or drawn out of a ballot to make it fair.
