Non-Manly Games [Round 6, 2019]

SsCam's specialty is the elbow to the face of a player on the ground. Again let go on Radley (?) who stayed down drabbing his jaw but the Vidiot just ignored it 😡

BTW can you or @Jethro open the GAME Thread please as it is a Manly WIN day

Done!

I'm keeping my 100% forget rate going! I'm #1, I'm#1, I'm#1

PS: Someone tell my dog it's 15 mins until her walk time and to stop looking at me and sighing CONSTANTLY

Subconsciously or consciously Mark? I’d like to think the former because it’s definitely happening in most games. If it’s the latter we are in real strife

I’d love to think the former but it’s happening far too often these days and I’m just wondering if the pressure to provide great “ entertainment” for the broadcasters isn’t coming into play.

AND

Let’s not forget how much sponsorship is now based around betting.

You look at how much of the following happens.

A) a side jumps out to an early healthy lead , usually 20 plus nil.

B) a raft of penalties are then given to the side that’s behind usually resulting in at least a score for them before half time.

C) the penalties ( or 50/50 decisions) then continue until the two sides are close to level, or preferably level.

D) the aim is Golden Point, the broadcasters and betting agencies love this , more excitement and takes out many of the betting options.

If this was occasional I’d get it, but have a look at how many games this season have run this way already!

Sadly I just don’t think this is the same game we grew up loving.

Bennett prefers rugby league like it was in 1997 under Super League. Super quick play the balls that mean one set gets 100m. All you have to do as the defence is keep running backwards and then just make sure to defend the last tackle bomb.

Just remember this though. Super League in Australia was made up by the Broncos.....for the Broncos with rules (such as the team that scores doing the kick-off restart) to suit the Broncos. And of course playing the Grand Final at the Broncos home ground, the Broncos won.

Conspiracy theory or not I’ll stand by my thoughts that the refs are manipulating games to create closer contests through penalties.

Penalty count last night 10-5, mostly given to the Storm in the second half to assist them in catching up.

Exactly what happened in Newcastle last Saturday night. We got to a 18-0 lead after 18 minutes, then the Knights got 7 penalties in a row and we didn't get another until the score was 18-12. The only difference being that Manly were good enough to hold out Newcastle and win the game.

As much as Smith does do the elbow thing, the issue with Radley's jaw was because when Smith tackled him his jaw came into contact with Smith's shoulder. It was like when Australia played Wales on the 1994 Kangaroo Tour and John Devereux had his jaw smashed when he went to tackle Mal Meninga and happen to catch Mal's shoulder (as we know, when Meninga used to run the ball into the defensive line he would lead with his shoulder into the opposition tacklers, like countless players do trying to break through a tackle). It was nothing more than an accidental clash that resulted in an unfortunate injury. Last night, much as I hate to admit it, it didn't look like there was any malice involved or intended. It wasn't actually a high tackle, it was just one of those things that happen in a contact sport like rugby league.

At least last night, unlike the Meninga-Devereux incident, Radley just jarred his jaw and didn't have it broken in two places.

Damn, I need to go have a shower. I feel dirty having just defended sCam. Anyone know a good priest? I'm not catholic but need to confess my sins.

Hey MFB how you doing? I'm in Manly myself, well that's BNE Manly. As for your betting comment and golden point...Don't the agencies pay at 80 mins? mind you I never bet so I haven't got a clue but I hear the ads saying they pay at the 80 mins if it goes into ET.

Anyway good win again by my Chookies and they just do enough to get the 2 points, but in an entertaining manner unlike those vermin from Redfern who seem to trip into the points for now. So glad you guys got the 2 from them BUT now I'm looking for your troops to soften the drags for us for next Anzac game...They seem to have the wood on us on that match but we get them the next match...Go Manly, tonight!

And almost for the Manly-Newcastle game last week.

I’m calling it now.

It’s absolute and total manipulation of the game through penalties to ensure a close finish , preferably Golden Point.

And lays fair and square at Greenslimes feet!

Have to agree, I am so sick of tuning in to watch a game when the is so many blatant decisions / missed decisions affecting the the run of the game to get that close finish. It has been getting worse every year but this year most games are going that way, just like a WWE script. It is so very blatantly obvious it doesn't even seem like they are trying to be discreet.

It frustrates and angers me when its happening against us, I go off big time, but at the same time use the old us against them mentality, the agenda against Manly as a reason.
For that reason I like watching other games, as I am not as emotionally attached to the result, could both appreciate any good play, bag any bad play and point the finger at any grub tactics, all for enjoyment. I use to watch most games with my father, now he has passed I watch a few with my either my Daughter, or Sons sometimes both when they are over, I miss my father, I miss watching the games and listen to him go on, but watching the games bring back fond memories and good times spent together. Thing is I can't do that anymore, more so this year, not with any sense of enjoyment, this agenda driven close finish crap, through penalty runs and missed fouls of any type (the so called 50/50) in favour of a certain team or the team trailing by a large margin, is just ruining that enjoyment, getting stressed, getting angry at what I am seeing and it is isn't even my team playing, just the frustration of these blatant decisions or lack of.
I was just slapping my head last night dumbfounded at the missed forward passes, the blatant run of penalties and the like.
Funny thing, I was watching the game last night with my daughter, she was over for Good Friday Fish (or is that Friday's Good Fish) and was having an enjoyable evening, and was looking forward to watching two competition heavyweights, even though cheats, rorters and grubs, but still potentially a good game. It was ruined by the refs calls, its was ruined by the blatant agenda. I don't care about the golden point close finish, it should never have been, I didn't enjoy the game as a whole because of that, neither did my daughter.

In fact Mr Todd Greenberg, if you want to quote your Daughter, here is one from mine " If they continue doing this to get a close finish I am not watching anymore non Manly games".
This agenda driven ref whistling, through either incompetence or downright skullduggery is doing more damage to the game than any off field behaviour can ever do.

Sorry about the long winded post, wasn't meant to be, just wound myself up the more I wrote lol.

Not a punter so wouldn’t know the answer to that BUT if they payout at full time then wouldn’t they love draws as not too many would go that way.

As for softening the Dragons, we’ll do that at least!!

Remember the time when ballin repeatedly hit smith’s forearm with his face and jaw?

Yep, certainly do. Last night wasn't like that though (only with regards to Radley's jaw). Not that it absolves Smith from being just about the biggest grub rugby league has ever seen, and this is a game that has seen some grubs and thugs over the years.

I saw Big Nelson A-S (I am not even going to bother attempting to spell his name) got a contrary conduct grade 1 charge for stomping JWH last night. He plays next week after paying a $1350 fine. For the life of me I cannot work out how stomping and eye gouging do not result in a week on the sideline...

Me neither. My guess is the nrl think it's some sort of dance move.

Yet put an accidental high shot on a player that's falling and you'll not only cop 10 in the bin but a 2 week holiday.

I don't endorse betting but I was on the phone for quite a long time to put this bet on. It dropped from 8.5 to 6.5 and the operator was reluctant

Knights a rabble. Tyrone Roberts one of most underrated players in game. All the skills.Passes beautifully both sides. Great long and short kicking game and probably has had the best dummy in the NRL for years.

Would have been a good pick up from Super League. Love halves who like to take the line on. Real confident player and not afraid to overcall Taylor.Shame he’s never played in a top side.Outside of the real big money guys he’d do me any day of the week.

Elgey has similar skills to Tyrone. Just needs to take a leaf out of his book re confidence and embracing contact.

Kelly’s grabbed a nice try too.
