RE: NHL 2013

You'll love this one GE; Rumours is that Luongo is on the top of Philly's wishlist & they're preparing to make an offer for him once he gets paid out by the Nucks. Maybe in the tradition of this off-season you guys can have Bryz? (No back-swapsies).

RE: NHL 2013

lol. Practice your "Luuuuuuuuu's" chant!

No way!

Why our goalie haf be so bad?

RE: NHL 2013

This is your NHL on drugs.

Probably a good move for Schneider, not so much for the Nucks. Schneider is going to benefit big time from sitting behind Brodeur & it'll help ease him into a full time starting role. Not sure that it was the best idea for the Nucks though, think that they overplayed their hand with Luongo in holding off on trading him for so long that it got to the point where no one was going to give up anything for him & the owners weren't prepared to buy out his contract. IMO he'll still do a job for the Nucks, but this whole saga would've taken a toll.

Of course as one of the major rumoured parties interested in Luongo, the trade hurts the Flyers as well (Not to mention that we now have to deal with Schneider after the decades of getting stonewalled by Brodeur) but we've ended up with Ray Emery. Really happy with that outcome, not that fussed on Emery but we've got him for a really team friendly deal (1 year, $1.65m). Let him & Steve Mason battle it out this year & if neither of them emerge as a solid #1 we can address the position next year.

Philly going balls out as always, nothing new to see there. Actually quite a good FA period for us though, aside from the Streit deal (I know we needed at least one other decent defenceman, but the length of the contract - 4 years, $21m - does my head in. He's 35 ffs).

Loved getting Vinny Lecavalier to replace Brierre. Our forward lines are just incredibly stacked with talent, even more so when you consider that we (apparently) have Gagne all but signed to make his return, just working out salary cap nuances.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-Read
Talbot-Hall-Rinaldo

That's three really amazing lines. Fourth line isn't anything flash (Nor should it be, it's a fourth line) but that group can be really staunch in defense. It's saying something when you've got a guy with the talent of Sean Couturier playing third line.

Defense is coming together slowly as well, still rumours flying around that Philly's going to make some more changes there. Not sure if we'll be able to bring in a top tier defender at this stage, but nothing would shock me with the Flyers. We are over the cap right now though, so there'll definitely be some big moves coming.

RE: NHL 2013

Good post. This wont be the same......

It'll be interesting who you keep outta that list as *ahem* there's some salary cap issues. ie Philly are over it! Rumour is that Couturier shall be traded.

Yeah, there's much more to come, we're not done by a long way. Coots won't be the one to go, Holmgren loves him. Preds were willing to let us have Shea Webber for Coots & a first round pick last year & we turned them down. If any of the young forwards are going it's more likely to be Schenn, though I doubt that'll happen.

If we dump Meszaros it'll bring us back under the cap (though still without enough room for Gagne) & there's also the rumour that we're shopping Brayden Coburn around. Bourdon will probably be dropped to the AHL for the opening day roster then brought back up after game 1 as we can LTIR Pronger at that point (which is another 5 mil off the cap).

In less stressful news, Giroux has agreed to an 8 year contract extension! Good times.

RE: NHL 2013

Just announced that Ilya Kovalchuk has retired! Twelve years & $77m left on his contract & he's only 30. Shocking news for Joisey, could be the death knell for the team?

He'll be off to the KHL where they'll pay him even more!

You'd think so. Guess he liked playing over there when he went during the lockout & decided to go back.

Massive blow for Jersey though. Quebec will be circling to snatch the franchise. It'd be brutal for the state to lose their last purely NJ after the Nets moved to Brooklyn last year.

RE: NHL 2013

Well the rumour is St Petersberg in the khl for 15 - 20 mill per year!

Wait and see I guess.

Nrl players must see these figures and wish they were born elsewhere!

RE: NHL 2013

@wolfpack

Philly fire their coach after 3 games!

New nhl record.

RE: NHL 2013

I was a fan of Lavi but we needed a change, he just wasn't getting the team to produce with the puck & when you've got the likes of Giroux, Hartnell, Simmonds & Voracek on your roster that's pretty unforgivable. Wish him all the best in wherever he goes next. Of course the big question is why now? It's really a move that should've been made before training camp.

New coach (Craig Berube) could be interesting, has a decent track record with the organization & played for the Flyers as well. Got a win first up but it's not as if there was any kind of dramatic improvement from what I saw, things will take time. I do like him moving Simmonds to the top line though, Hartnell-Giroux-Simmonds is just mean.

*I can't go another post without mentioning Steve Mason beasting Florida today. 33 saves! Could he be our next great astrologer/goalie? Probably not. It's Philly.

RE: NHL 2013

Pronger retires.

nucks beat flyers 3-2. (thankfully!)

woot!

Flyers are weird. They should be losing everything 7-6 as you have a pffft goalie and a team of forwards.

But - your goalie is doing well, and your forwards aren't scoring!

RE: NHL 2013

Not officially, the Flyers have just finally said that he'll never play hockey again - which we all knew given he hasn't played in the past two years & has been working as a coach. It's a bit of a ridiculous situation, he has to stay on the roster due to his cap hit (if he's on the roster we can LTIR him after week 1 to get the cap space back but if he is retired the cap hit is just there regardless). Really hope he gets well someday, all those reports about his post-concussion issues are pretty scary.

Steve Mason (!) Has actually been really good this year. Odds say he won't keep it up, but it's still a nice job by him. Forward lines just aren't clicking at all. Simmonds, Voracek & Giroux are all struggling for cohesion & form so we're looking really scrappy. Losing Lecavalier was a big blow as well. Hopefully it comes together soon but I'm quickly losing hope for this season. Very frustrating.

RE: NHL 2013

Loooong way to go, but I hear ya!
