Agree. Didn’t Brenton Lawrence retire after signing with the Gold Coast and was not included in there salary cap.

And....BJ had the very good grace not to accept any payments.

I wanted to buy one of these but when I saw it was Nate Myles, there was no way I was ever going to buy it.

Can't understand why Manly are still paying him. Ridiculous. The Storm must have done a good deal to only get him for 1/2 a season. Must have been in the contract that he would go back to Manly afterwards and that they would pay him. But surely if he has retired then Manly should not have to pay him and if not then he should be back at Manly earning his money.

I thought, whilst he was the whipping plod of ST, stats showed his defence was pretty good or don't we believe stats here as 'they can be used to prove anything' unlike conjecture and insinuation?

Now we all whine about how contracts don't mean anything... well surely we should be happy this one is being paid out? lol

I am delighted he is no longer with us, he was ****! I'm really annoyed that he is gone, that we are still paying him and then is still rubbing our noses in it and doesn't have the class to just let it go.

I'm just surprised about the ridiculousness of NRL contracts and their salary cap implications. We sign a player, he asks for a release to go to another club, which we grant. He then retires but somehow we are still obligated to pay out his contract AND it comes off our cap ?? FMD who negotiates these deals ?? If we are paying him and he is under our cap then he's turning up to training every week and being used as a tackle bag as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise he waives his right to the contract and we both move on.

If you retire you forfeit your right to wages imo. Unless you're injured playing for the team that paid you which in this case is not.

If cherry retires now do we pay him for the rest of his life?

And now im worried with our recruitment history that we have actually promised him a million bucks a year until he dies.

Bozo wasn't responsible for the mess that was the catalyst for bringing Myles to the club, he was just brought in to fix it. Unfortunately though he had to use Myles' friendship with DCE as a carrot for both parties. Though why a 3 year, $1.5 million (total) contract to an aging forward when anything less than $1 million over 2 years would have been more than enough is anyone's guess.

Although, my guess is that Myles and his manager milked it for all it was worth. They knew that Manly were desperate to keep Cherry after it became known that Foran had pulled the wool over their eyes by negotiating while all the time intending to follow Choc to doesn't-matta, and Myles cashed in. Sadly Nate never really gave a toss about being here, it was just one last big pay day for him and it showed in 90% of his on field performances.

Never thought I would say this a few years ago but......Willie Mason had more integrity.

Agree with Andrew"s sentiments in regard to the Myles situation in 2015 with the Titans and being used as a bench player occasionally due to his lack of impact and for whatever [ really unwise ] reason Manly then signing him for three seasons . Irrespectful also of the D C E situation at the time , really just seemed more like wishful thinking that he would improve much at Manly then . Doubt that he would still be counted on Manly "s salary cap situation now , more probably or likely that Manly were only too pleased to have the Storm pay for half of Myles "s contract when he was released there last season , and then just hoping that the Storm may see some value or reason to continue to retaining and paying him in 2018 . Obviously they didn"t ,as Myles continued to under perform and essentially Manly were then still obliged to pay him his remaining or some maybe negotiated contract amount for this season but not salary cap inclusive . Absurd outcome of course and if Myles is still on Manly "s pay roll , there really should be some mutual obligation requirements . I think in B J "s case that he took on some club employment appointed role at the Titans when he retired from footy there .
