Can’t agree with the great man about the twenty four points. With the game on the line we scored 6 points and didn’t look like scoring. Three late tries after they clocked off does not hide the deficiencies we so obviously have in attack- deficiencies most sides would definitely have with our injuries in key positions.
The blokes out there tonight won’t score enough points to keep us in the hunt until Tommy and Walks get back in my opinion. No options now with no nine and no Tommy / Walks so it would seem speed is required at least. And that means Metcalfe / Hoppa need to be considered. Lot more points being scored this year and defending for eighty minutes with nothing else won’t cut it.

We scored those points not because the Sharks clocked off
We scored those points because we clocked on for that short period
We clocked off all game in intensity and defensively and that is why we lost
Des was 100% correct

Post match conference
Des ...Very disappointed....When you score 24 points that is enough to win a game of footy . Really disappointed the 40 we let in
The big effort against Canberra is not an excuse for what happened today
The Sharks played with more intensity and we missed far too many tackles
Brendon Elliott played well in the centrs last week and Rubin Garrick had the speed to make the impact from fullback was the reason for the positional change
Crockers performance at 5/8 was ok
Tom Turbos loss is not an excuse we were just not proficient enough . Without Tom we scored 24 points it was our overall intensity and poor defence that let us down
Did we score 2 more points after the bell, as I could've sworn it was 40 -22 ?

marty isn’t what he was a few years ago, think he is A little living on reputation

afb has passed him and then some
Mate you have no idea about rugby league or what you’re talking about! Marty was one our better players tonight. Played with his hand still not 100% yet gave 100%. Many pundits consider Marty & AFB up there with the best props in the NRL yet you come here & say Marty’s playing on reputation? Like I said you have no idea!

Thank you . Correction we scored 22 points enough to win a game
Last week against the Raiders and without Tommy in the second half we scored only 14 points
To score 22 points without strike players Tommy Walker and Suli was a great effort
unfortunately our intensity and defense let us down which we can fix that next week
Great times ahead for the Sea eagles

Granted Croker was great last week and others were also poor this week.
But you need to frame it like this. Croker has had bad luck after bad luck, this was his chance to stand up and impress everyone. How few opportunities do you get in a lifetime. In Crookers shoes tonight most would have been giving it a red hot go and probably over playing their hands he didn't he went in the polar opposite direction

That play in the 2nd half where Croker could have put Parker and Jorge away with only Moylan (who was standing virtually flat footed) to beat pretty much summed up his night, unfortunately. The only other Cronulla players in sight were forwards who even Parker and Jorge could outrun.

I know it probably did happen a few times in their careers, but getting tackled with the ball instead of putting team mates into space is something that rarely happened to 5/8's like Bozo, Cliffy and Foz. Don't get me wrong because I'm not saying that Croker is at their level because he's not, but a good half would have passed that ball in that situation, not die with the ball.

As Peter Sterling said: thank goodness the match wasn't close because the Vidiot again produced a howler when Sirro was knocked over before he had a chance to ground the ball over the tryline.
The Vidiots will normally strip a try for the most minute of interference, whether it is accidental or not, yet allowed this one to go.
How do they allow such fools to play such a vital part in this billion dollar sport?

Sorry Bozo, and I respect your unswerving loyalty, but I'm hoping Des knew he had made a mistake with the players he had and their positional locations. I'm hoping he doesn't err that way this week because with the same side, the Knights will flog us.

Firstly Cronulla are at best a middle ranking team, competitive but not top four quality. Cronulla were leading 30-8 with twenty minutes remaining and 36-14 with 9 minutes remaining. Game was over soon after half time. Sure Manly scored 2 tries in the last 9 minutes to make the score a little more respectable and maybe they upped their effort, but I suspect Cronulla knew it was won and relaxed a little. It was a very poor effort for such a strong side in the forwards.

The week before Manly only scored a penalty goal after Tommy had left the field, during the entire second half. He was instrumental in the two tries and if he had stayed on, based upon the conversion rate with him there, it is probable that Manly would have scored around 24 points or perhaps more, not 14, such is his importance to our attack.

The stats show conclusively that when Turbo is on the field, Manly win a much larger proportion of the games. This is where I think Des needs to be looking. They need a good play maker and they need someone at full back who can make things happen and has speed. Neither Garrick nor Elliott offer anything like that, given Garrick is fast but lacks full back like vision and Elliott lacks speed, is safe, but wont inspire a backline

Its a risk, but Manly needs a Schuster and young Hoppa in the side, perhaps eased in one at a time and perhaps initially on the bench, but Manly lack variety in attack at present, with Turbo out, and statistically that suggests if this is not rectified Manly will fall down the table, so far they could miss the finals by the time Turbo and Walker are back.

Defence was atrocious yesterday , Too Many one on one missed tackles lead to Cronulla tries
To many positional changes in the back to be able to defend as a unit
A few calls from the ref changed the momentum of the game ( prior information ) what was that about The player still needs to clear the ruck anyway that wasn’t the reason they lost but it contributed.
Lacklustre in attack don’t get enough repeat sets when they are in the opposition 10
Cronulla put on 40 points can’t win games when you let that many points in

For any if you brave enough here are the best pics from yesterday

Actually Des said in the press conference we scored 24 points as well!

I understand with what you are saying my good feathered friend but Tommy Turbo and other key players like Walker spent time on the sidelines with one of our biggest injury tolls last year and that did not stop our team from scoring points and winning games without Hoppa and Schuster .

Our best attacking kick was from Marty. That about sums it up.

Why wasn't Elliot at fullback?
This is what sums things up .......
On the day sht happens to every one
Greg chappell the Australian captain and one of the greatest batman ever had not one but 7 ducks in his illustrious career
Cassius Clay lost to Fazier when he was Ko'd and got his Jaw broken
One loss does not define the Great Manly team

The team had 80 minutes to contribute, it wasn't just one moment that cost us. That's what we need to look at, because we dont look like league heavyweights right now, and the Sharps sure as hell arent the equivalent of Joe Frazier

Hope you're right...and Des makes the best decision on the team...but with the present backline squad I'm pessimistic. I have a feeling Ponga will tear that backline apart
