The NRLs decision to block Manly from using Fainu is a utter disgrace and demonstrates to me that they have it In for the club. What a load of rubbish suggesting Wright, Brown or Hastings could play hooker. Hooker is not the primary position of any of those players. They play there out of necessity on occasions but that is not their primary role. I know Fainu is regarded as a half, but he has been playing hooker for the past two seasons. He is therefore justifiably recognised as a Hooker. The NRL are a disgrace. I really hope Manly give it to them in court in the near future and demand extensive compensation and hands off clauses.. They need to be shown how vitriolic they have been to the Sea eagles club. For goodness sake they could suggest Tom T. should be hooker, or perhaps Jake. Other clubs get assistance. Manly gets nothing from this shoddy NRL admin.
Usually agree with you Bearfax but not this time. What is a disgrace is having one hooker in the top thirty. The coach made a conscious decision to roll the dice with Api and utilties as back up. He lost.
Not the NRL s fault.Hastings and Brown was our back up plan all the time and we all know it.As if the plan was to bring in Fainu if Api went down! The only reason they tried to elevate Fainu is that Hastings is blackballed and Brown is ordinary.Neither of those is the NRLs fault. We all know Hastings would have the spot if he was not THE OUTCAST .Let’s not rewrite history.
What is an even bigger disgrace is that Funa and Jono have a place and no hooker. If Parcell was in the top 30 and was injured also Fainu would be playing.
Bad roster management.
The dogs had a player knocked back just like us last week.It happens regularly. Sick of the excuses. Wins some games or at least play with some heart. Fans will cop an honourable loss, but they won’t cop the rubbish we dish up most weeks. That’s how you turn things around. Pride in the jersey, something this club has always had and something which has deserted us.
And can we end the court case stuff. It’s not going to happen and we all know it. As if Penn is going to go to court over some perceived slight and spend another few million after losing every year since he owned the joint..Ive been a litigation lawyer in a past life and people just don’t understand what it costs to mount a case against a party with deeper pockets that will defend its ground through the trial AND appeals process, particularly when the action entails being part of a private competition that basically operates under a situation where the club agrees to abide by the rules set when it is granted a licence. The case would be based on the grounds of denial of natural justice and good luck with that one , believe me!.An internal administrative appeal to the NRL as we are seeking leave for now is chicken feed when compared to a prolonged civil court action. We run on a shoestring budget anyway so I for one don’t want to see dollars that might help our footy club flushed over this stuff. Supposedly our ridiculous catchcry over the years is that we love being hated so we can’t have it both ways.
For a club in our position to do it would be a farce. And it seems to be forgotten that the way the salary cap penalty was structured Penn actually BENEFITTED financially, even though our capacity to pay players was reduced. The club still receives the full grant, our capacity to spend the proceeds of that grant under the cap decreases and the amount of that deduction exceeds the fine. Yep ... so Penns going to spend millions fighting that lol.
It’s not going to happen. We all know it. Win some games instead.Great to see Tom get a crack. Hope he goes well.
