I agree, but it isn't semantics.

I doubt many in the Manly squad in 2013 had pride in the jersey(in other words hated the club) but had personal pride, goals and not wanting to let the team down, still performing at a high level.

Maloney with all the clubs he has had success at is due to a strong inner resolve and pride plus creates a good working environment building up the confidence of others.

Pride in ones performance is not about selfishness, it is about being true to yourself----zero to do with "Jarryd Hayne" types.

It's also about understanding the impact your own lack of effort and attention to detail can have on others and make them look bad also.

For example not making the extra effort to cover your outside players inside shoulder in defence when needed can make it look like the outside defenders missed tackle was solely their fault in many peoples uneducated eyes.

and the little things off the ball, often in defence.

It seemed to work also for the Brisbane and Melbourne games this year.

I hope Barrett finally attepts to show some spirit and adventure and bring Tom Wright in at 5/8, Hodkinson at haf, DCE at hooker. If Tom plays to his potential, and Hodko gets out of first gear, Manly just may have the solution to the remainder of the season, especially when Walker returns

Hodko doesn't have gears - he's a plodder, same pace, you'd back him in a 3200mtr race against geldings.
