Manly players back under-pressure Barrett

What you want him to do that in public? Do yourself a favour next time we lose stand outside the sheds and listen
Yes I do.....at the press conference...always accepts the losses easily with cliches
"But we hung in there"
"I don't want to make excuses but....."
I can't stand Bellamy, but if his side ever fell apart and showing zero energy and laughing as they walk off the field he would be livid....in fact so would Toovey...and yes...in public!!
Whatever Is happening outside this dressing room you are standing does not seem to bother the players...look very relaxed after the 80 minutes...unlike Thurston, Gallen....and most other players who would be filthy after several straight losses....this breeds acceptance to losing...sad and un Manly like imo.

Again I feel that we need to get this all into perspective. I'm not saying Barrett will be a top coach. That is yet to be determined but when you compare Dessies' 2004 results with Barrett's 2016 results, you begin to see that Dessie at that stage was performing in results no better than Barrett at this stage.

The 2004 side included Scott Donald, Chris Hicks, Brett and Glenn Stewart, King, Hopoate, Menzies, Watmough, Haumona, Andrew Walker, Monaghan. Yet they finished 13th out of 15 teams and were 200 points poorer in defence than the 2016 side. Granted Dessie's 2005 side started 3 from 3, but he didnt have his four best props out of the game. I think we need to wait until the full team is on board and playing several games before assessing whether Barrett is diamond or glass

The problem is hidden somewhere within this article
Personally think DCE is a talented footy player who is the victim of over exposure and unrealistic expectations
Seems a nice bloke....lacking that win at all cost mentality and unable to lift his mates with a game on the line
Of course he will stand by his coach and always say "the right thing"
Barrett - also a decent bloke
Always satisfied with his team....even if they have been beaten by 40 points....given up a massive lead....played with zero intensity...ect
All have each other's back - the players are happy because there seems no consequence for poor performance, while the coach seems happy the players are behind him, because he is - nice to them....
I want the coach to address the poor attitude and the players to realise they are way off the pace...the coach to stop making friends and get brutally honest so the players have ownership....we are the only team that looks happy after every loss...apart from 2 young brothers that carry the team.

Nice guys finish last, and if this continues that's were this team will finish.

I think your find that was before they went into the changing room. And your saying jake didn't look filthy?no coach or captain at the beginning of a season with a new team would publicly slate the team that would be ridiculous.

O
Jake is the only one who appears to care. Maybe Lawrence is another. The rest - including our captain - just seem to take losses in their stride. No biggee right? And when you get right down to it - why should they care? They're not local juniors for the most part, so "Manly" just equals "My employer", they're still getting paid big bucks (or mega bucks for some), the journeymen are just looking to get some decent coin to fund their retirements, the coach displays zero passion or intimidation factor (nothing to be scared of there), its not like they are going to get dropped, the playing group is a mish-mash with little apparent team spirit or bonding, the captain is more likely to drown you in media cliches than give you a bollocking, etc etc.
f course it's a biggie if they don't care about a loss. All I'm saying is it's a bit early for captain and coach to publicly ridicule the team.im sure plenty is said in the changing room and that's how it should be for now.

The 2 Turbo's are the odd men out - look devastated and this is evident on the field, so a very good point I clearly see and agree on....Totally disagree regarding this early season coach part.
Des/ Bellamy/ even that Ja ja Binks lookalike Trent Robinson would have been filthy after game 1 if their players imploded like Manly did at 12-0 up - Round 1 or Round 24 - I'm not suggesting bagging his players - but to simply state more disappointment in the underwhelming effort that the fans can obviously see....and hopefully help instill more desire and pride than MOST of these players are showing.

2 with this team.

The biggest problem I have with our current coaching and football dept is if you look at good coaches - Craig Bellamy, Des Hasler even Brad Arthur with the current Parra team they take average players and make them look good around a solid structure and game plan.

We have brought in bought Nate Myles, Lewis Brown, Api, Dylan Walker, Blake Green and a couple of others over the last two years. These guys played in premiership or grand final teams and whether we agree with their selections or not some of them were Rep players. Currently these guys look like reserve graders.

And I'm sure that will come if we carry on losing. But not after 2 games

The funny thing is, I'm not even that peeved off at the way our current team is performing. It's obvious that this team was put together using mostly underachieving cast offs and most of the time you only get what you pay for.

My frustration is squarely directed at the owners...I'm hoping the Tim Cleary stance is their awakening moment.
I think they're finally realising that if things don't change their investment will continue haemorrhage.

The 3 coaches mentioned as being great above (Bellamy,Hasler and Arthur) also stock their teams and squads full of big middle men.Game one we did that and I won't bother to make an excuse/reason as to why we lost.Game 2 we had 5 big units unavailable and filled the side with lightweight backrowers, why that happened I don't know, maybe Trent wanted to use some guys outside the top 25 but was told by people higher up the food chain that he had to use guys from the 25 and couldn't use second tier salary cap yet.I will just reserve my judgement on how our season will go until after 5/6 rounds when we will be something near a complete side.It has always been a game that is won and lost upfront and still is.How did filling a side with backrowers go for Bellamy at State of Origin?Add to that how did we go when we lost Roberts/Cunningham/Haumono to SL and Gillespie to retirement and Carroll to London in the late 90's?(it was a bit of a disaster if I remember correctly)I am not saying we just fill our forward pack with big lumbering props but the side on the weekend was far from a balanced side and none of us knows the real reasons behind that.

It is interesting to see that people here think that because that some don't wear their heart on their sleeve and show a lot of emotion in front of the media/fans that it equates to not caring or having no passion.I don't berate people in front of others or always show if I am upset or displeased with something/someone in front of others,It certainly does not mean that I don't give a sxxx. And trust me,I let them know how I am feeling in my own way....

The Sea Eagles are also hamstrung by the medical retirements of Brett Stewart and Steve Matai still remaining before the NRL, meaning they cannot replace them in this year's salary cap.

This is the bit that's truly outrageous @

NRL Player welfare is being ignored by forcing a Club to play with a pool of only 23, when other Clubs have 25 :!!:
If it were anyone but us the NRL would bend the rules to assist them, greenturd is a joke he proved that last year with his soft handling of the parra debacle, I'm afraid the only chance for improvement will have to come from within, if these blokes don't show some gumption and play the Manly brand of footy we are in for our worst year ever !!!

Honesty and accountability are not berating players, but to constantly make excuses and have the bar low, is far more insulting in my eyes...these are paid professionals - not U8's....
One thing champion players like Johns, Lockyer, Thurston and our young greats in the Turbo's have in common....they wear the hearts on the sleeve and don't simply accept losing - this I guess is part of what makes these type of players great and lift their team mates....like at Melbourne - these average players lift - there is an expectation - not an acceptance of under performing....and yes - from game 1 is why Munster ect step straight up to the plate...the standards are there by Bellamy and met accordingly.
I do agree everyone reacts differently to situations, but I see the players looking TOO comfortable post game....we always have excuses ready to pull out for the conference....then a week later its groundhog day.

2/3 's are also cheats.

They are not "accountable" to us as fans or the media no matter how much we would like them to be(yes we pay their wages and we want to be informed, but as far as I care they can keep their dirty laundry behind closed doors,I prefer a unified/united front to stop the media crucifying the players/coach and creating division and questions amongst the playing group but isn't that what is part of the siege mentality? Fxxx what others think?).To say that all champion players wear their heart on their sleeve is wrong,Cronk,Cam Smith,Lockyer,Buderus,O'Connor,Lyon,Lyons were all the more reserved type of personality and were/are still champions. You don't have to let others be able to read and know what you are thinking/feeling all the time to be a champion, sometimes keeping your cards close to your chest is a good option.
