It's out of left field but I've often wondered if Glenn Stewart would be a good assistant coach. I think he'd have a fair bit to offer tactically, and I get the feeling he might have a similar coaching style as Craig Fitzgibbon. Although, I'm not sure if he left on good terms regarding Penn.

Would be a great coach. He is back in the fold see him regularly at home games.

Seibold is the real obvious choice imo.

Toovey is preferred fans choice.

Mate ... I like your stuff ... but seriously ... What in the name of sweet Olive Oil's long legs do you see in Siebold ...

Perhaps the way he walked out on Manly .. saying Bozo wouldn't listen to him ..
The way he white-anted Maguire at Souths ..
The way he walked out on Souths to go to his dream job at Bronco's ..
Maybe the way he took player - coach relationships to the sewer at Broncos and made them a disaster site ..
OR ,, the outstanding job he has done at Newcastle as the "assistant" and coach whisperer ...

Lordy lordy lordy ... please keep the egotistical potatohead as far from Manly as possible ..

I can’t be sure but I think he was our defensive coach when we came next to last. Someone said he had Manly DNA. FMD that means sharpy has as well.

It is 2022 in a professional sport this manly dna is bull**** and needs to be called out. A professional sports team believing it can only be successful because the coach has manly dna in them is one of the many reasons we are becoming a joke in the nrl.

If all things are equal of course we pick the guy with manly dna but we should always pick the best candidate.

We have no manly dna options of quality to choose from so the next coach should be the best coach out there we deserve that not some second rate coach because he spent one say in sg ball squad.

Time to start running this joint as a professional sports team. If not hand our licence in so someone who wants to compete can join the comp.

I see nothing in Seibold, never said I did.

But if the job becomes vacant my money is on him.

The real power struggle should be at the ownership level.

We could have Bellamey, Robinson even good old Jack Gibson (at his peak not now!) and it will not make a difference with our current approach to ownership

Yep 100%.

The question is how do we encourage Mr Penn to change his approach to ownership, or perhaps more realistically, get a change in ownership?

As it stands i would not think there is any motivation for him to do so

Pure speculation but as I have said in other places this is certainly not a loss leading business for him and his level of involvement appears to be fairly low. I mean look at the lack of governance in the club - it does not smack of an engaged ownership model

My speculative take is that this is an investment for the Penn family (now - may not have been at first) which is pretty hassle-free. If they spend more for a larger potential return it would take more work....with more risk so why would you do it?

As a manly fan I hate it but I can understand it from a commercial perspective

We'll only get a change in ownership if, he gets an offer too good to refuse, which is unlikely at this stage, or he is fed up with topping up our financial deficit year after year.

The motivation would come if they got a 20,000 seat Stadium , as the membership numbers would increase and he’d be able to sell for a much bigger profit.

Don't forget ... that Penn has spent the last few years positioning himself for the New York franchise of a USA comp ... it is why he wants a Manly game there at all costs ... the deal with the american gambling site ... and why he threw Dessie under the bus to appease V'Landy's for his support on moving a game ...

I tells ya .. it's all about what he sees as the gold in the good ole US of A ...

I'd love to see Tooves return as the senior Assistant Coach.

He supposedly wasn't a great tactical coach (yet got us to a GF ). But:

- His approach (Run hard and direct .Tackle hard. Keep it simple) is just what we need right now

- He would be loyal to Des

- He is the ideal replacement coach if Des is sacked mid-season, even if just for half the season.

- Most of all, he bleeds Manly.

Open the chequebook and get the Manly legend back.

The power struggle is over: the Penns won and now must do as they think best. With them in outright charge, Bozo (not our esteemed Feathered Friend, thankfully) passed and Arko well and truly in retirement the whole "need Manly DNA" thing is over, imo. Des will want to get better results next year or when his contract ends they will replace him with the best head coach then on the market, seems there is always a few. I don't get vibes any of our lower-grade/specialist assistant coaches are ready for that step, anyone got any feelings on that?

I would personally welcome Maguire if we had to lose Des, I think he is a good coach who was on a Losertrain hiding to nothing at WT. Good luck with that shower Benji.

This obsession with getting a RL franchise in NY is the most ridiculous thing. It will never take. Americans are proud and patriotic and their football is massive. Most things Aussies do in their eyes are strange even if there is some quirky appeal, like watching crazy things people do on YouTube. Penn is an idiot.
