Hmmmm - what would Arko probably do - if he could?

He would -

  • Get a Manly junior in to coach - someone successful, someone now at the top of their game as coach
  • By getting this coach in, he would weaken a rival, and make Manly stronger
  • By getting this coach, he would also probably get some star players from this coach's current club, as well as some juniors in the future
  • This would be well planned in advance, so that this coach would start in 2024 - when his current contract is up. Of course, it would be a done deal well before then.

Yes - I am suggesting that Manly poach (the press love to say that) the current Penrith coach, Ivan Cleary (a Manly junior and former player) for the 2024 season, and a good smattering of premiership-winning players with him (Liam Martin, Stephen Chrichton). Des can coach next year, and move into a Football Club management role after that. (Pity that Nathan Cleary is contracted to 2027).

i dont think Cleary would get on our bus.

you know the bus he talked about at the Tigers.

The power struggle is over: the Penns won and now must do as they think best. With them in outright charge, Bozo (not our esteemed Feathered Friend, thankfully) passed and Arko well and truly in retirement the whole "need Manly DNA" thing is over, imo. Des will want to get better results next year or when his contract ends they will replace him with the best head coach then on the market, seems there is always a few. I don't get vibes any of our lower-grade/specialist assistant coaches are ready for that step, anyone got any feelings on that?

I would personally welcome Maguire if we had to lose Des, I think he is a good coach who was on a Losertrain hiding to nothing at WT. Good luck with that shower Benji.
In 2018 Maguire's preference was the Tigers over us, that was one fck up, another fck up was to allow a film crew into his inner sanctum, no to Madge
Mick Potter would be cheap, allowing penn to pay out Desmond.
Penns paid out Des before, no way they're going to do it again, especially for Mick potter

Interesting scenario .. until you lost all sanity and suggested that Dessie move to Football manager .. what in the name of porky pig makes you think that Ivan, having been sacked once by having a "Football Manager" above him, would ever agree to having Dessie around ..

Or any incoming coach for that matter ... unless it was an absolute newby desperate for a 1st grade gig ..

NRL 2022: Des Hasler must accept change or his time at Sea Eagles is finished

Manly coach Des Hasler may have coached his last game for the club with the veteran mentor considering quitting as the club insists on change at the top.

Des Hasler will have to accept a raft of changes placed upon on him or risk having coached his last game at the Sea Eagles.

Manly management and Hasler are expected to meet at some stage this week with Hasler’s future now in the crosshairs after the Sea Eagles slumped to their seventh consecutive defeat with a loss to the lowly ranked Bulldogs on Friday night.

It is understood the meeting will dictate if Hasler remains in charge with suggestions he has lost the support of the club’s senior management. Hasler can either accept the recommended changes or those close to him have indicated he may elect to quit the club despite having 12 months left on his contract.

The Sea Eagles want to turn over Hasler’s coaching and support staff putting the likes of assistant coaches Michael Monaghan and Chad Randall plus Hasler’s long-term confidantes Noel Cleal and Don Singe are among those in the firing line.

It is understood Randall is close to joining the Bulldogs as part of Cameron Ciraldo’s new-look coaching staff.

New club boss Tony Mestrov made it clear change was inevitable.

“Because of the team performance, we have to be open to change,” Mestrov said. “If I came in and we were finishing sixth, I don’t think there would be the leverage to make change. But everything has been fast-tracked because of the performances.

“The owners want what I want – to have a successful football club, be financially better off and deliver what the fans and board want, which is a successful football team.

“The dynamics are not working at the moment and that means decisions have to be made. I wouldn’t call it a review. There won’t be a review. There will be discussions about how we can improve. I don’t think it is anything other than that. But we have to do something because the end to this season has been disappointing.”

The Sea Eagles are a club at the crossroads with political infighting among some officials and a split in the player ranks threatening to tear the club apart.

Hasler has his own frustrations with a front office who have turned over club bosses and he has felt a lack of support. Manly’s crippling injury run has contributed to their dramatic slump which coincided with the rainbow jersey debacle – with the club having not won a match since then.

Hasler has been angling for a contract extension but that has so far fallen on deaf ears. The team’s failure to push inside the top six this year has stopped him from gaining an automatic contract for 2024.

Owner Scott Penn has returned to Sydney from his New York base to deal with the issues. Hasler and Penn still have a testy relationship dating back to Hasler’s first ugly break-up with the club when he joined the Bulldogs in 2012.

There is a push from some within the club to hand more power to emerging coach Steve Hales who enjoys some strong support among some of the club’s youngsters.

@Red Pill .. y'all still think it is just my cheap tin foil .. ?

breaking news GIF by ATTN:

I liked Brandys take on it. Mestrov and co want changes around the assistant coaches and the high performance side. If he doesn’t go along with it, he’s probably gone.
Des being such a control freak, this is gunna get ugly/er imo.
