Mate, don't quote me, but I think it was (at least in 2008), Des, Siebold and Arthur. No-one would mess with that group - they wouldn't dare protest a jersey.
So Arthur was with Manly for only a short time in 2013 (but obviously did well as an assistant to Toovey that year). Seibold was also with us for only one year in 2016, being Barrett’s first year. Neither worked with Des, but both had spent some time with Bellamy at the Storm.

Fair enough - and thank you mate.

Who WERE Des' assistants in say 2007 - 2011?

This situation is incomparable. Unprecedented since probably the chaos during the super league wars, except it's worse. This isn't about money, this is about half a playing roster who couldn't give a rat's arse about the club they play for. How do you rectify this in the short-term? Consider the challenge at hand for coach and management. It is almost impossible. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink. This isn't about having a hard pre-season working on fitness and defence (e.g. cowboys). This is marriage counselling territory - and we know that shiit doesn't work.
I can't completely agree. Changing players is the easy part. Changing the ownership, recruitment and pathways structure is the most critical aspect.

Problem is there is no way to change ownership short of someone offering an astronomical amount.
The wealthy can always afford to be belligerent.

@highlandeagle you dislike a lot of my posts, which is fine. I welcome spirited debate.

Can you tell us what you think should be done to tune this situation around?. It is important to hear your perspective too.

At the end of the day, we have lost 6 in a row and had 40+ put in us 3 weeks in a row. How do we turn that around?.

The clubs woes started long before the pride round. The issues run long and deep. Dce's massive contract is a start, he is not a leader and team mates don't respect him,he is not a game manager and is responsible for numerous loses yet management extend his contact again. We have paid overs for Tom and Jake and therefore can't attract quality props. The clubs decision to sit on its hands in Manase's standown and not look for a quality hooker has screwed the club for three years. And then there's the coach. A control freak and a conservative that the modern game has passed by. His game plans are boring his use of the bench is abysmal and his dithering in blooding youth is maddening. The team looks slow and off the pace Tom's stellar year in 2021 has painted over the cracks. We need the penns to play an uncle nick's role yet they are tightarses. The solutions are a take over by URM a new coach with innovative assistants, Toovey to be the head of football, and anew fitness conditioner.
I give a dislike to posts that keep blaming the 7 for our problems. It shows a complete lack of understanding of tolerance and respect from those that shout it the loudest.Dislike away!

From 4th in 21 to a dismal 11th now. No pot of gold at the end of the Rainbow (tongue in cheek) this season...only fools gold...

All true except the seven are also a problem. No team can function knowing that seven team mates are willing to leave them in the lurch at a moment's notice. The jersey this time, what if a player's partner has an abortion. Couldn't possibly play alongside such a heathen. What if another has sex outside of marriage? I know it's hard to imagine, but concentrate. The reasons for withdrawal (I get the irony here) can be myriad with such a thick bloody book to work from.
A team is about trust if it's going to function well.
As I said, agree with much of what you say but, as you say, dislike away!

Ok I’ve posed this question on a few other threads but really I think at the point we are at it deserves its own thread.

So , without any inside knowledge , or without it being mentioned in the media ( it might after this ) it’s really a simple question , has one ( either ) or both lost the dressing room??

And is this more what’s happening than a split in the group because of “ pridegate”??

This isn’t a question of , “ can Des Coach “ or “ is DCE doing a good or bad job “ rather , has it actually gone past that point already.

Over to you oh faithfull Silvertailers

I don't believe Des has lost the dressing room - after all of his visible support for Walker during his legal issues & Fainu throughout the past 3 years & attending his court case, as well as taking the heat off the sanctimonious 7 during jerseygate, I would HOPE that all of Fainu's friends in the team would show as much loyalty in return to Des.

IF not, then I say again, I don't believe he's lost the dressing room because that would simply be a case of a bunch of entitled brats acting out, which no one can prevent happening.

The rest of the squad (DCE, Turbros, Croker, Garrick, etc) have all busted their arses in every game I've watched this year, some even playing hard while clearly injured, so I don't think Des has lost them.

I don't know what the problem is.

I will tell you what needs a thread of its own.

That is the TRUTH from Des and the captain.

Plenty of us fans and members spend hundred or even thousands of dollars a year on this team.

It's the least they could do for us when the results on the field are so bad.

We have been told the following about the results,

1 Not because of the playing group being divided

2 Not because of injuries.

Well the only other option is players not performing at capacity and that takes us back to why.

I want to know one thing thsese injuries didn’t just happen overnight des must of known the players were carrying them yet he turned a blind eye.He is partially to blame, as for dce I watch most games & the halfbacks run the ball yet this cat is only here to protect his body to be able to spend his millions later.

I think the 2 reasons you've mentioned (despite their denial being presented by Des) are the exact reasons for our current situation.

Mark, my idle thoughts,

I have a bright, intelligent hard working son in his late 20's on his way to a successful life ... I have known him all his life, cared for him, loved him, nurtured him, tutored and mentored him ... BUT at least 5 times a week on issues big and small, he tells me my attitudes and principles by which I ran my companies and staff ... no longer apply .. it's a new age.

So, if 2 people so close can be so different in today's world ....

How can a 60's year old coach living in millionaires row in Collaroy relate to the attitudes and demands of young men from such a different background .. ?

It was possible when there was only one or two in a team, they tended to buy in to the prevailing club culture, but with close on 50% ... they bring a whole new experience .. which needs to be understood, accepted and incorporated ...

So, not saying he has lost the dressing room ... but both he an DCE would certainly have a job relating in the brave new world of football ...

To me the fallout from rainbowgate won't be a falling out in the playing group ... but an emotional disconnect between the polynesian players and the club .. and the fans ... regardless of what we might think, all the players would be fully aware of what the feral fans are saying here on Silvertails and other social media ... and IMO having their culture, beliefs and integrity abused and denegrated has caused hurt and a disconnect ...

DCE appears to me to be a politician, and no gladiator. His team will "follow" him while things are going their way. However, when $hit hits the fan, the niceties mean nothing and the truth is exposed.

He seems to fit the archetypal Roman senator. All the symbolical power, but not a soldier's love of the general.

Haha another thread to bash them in.

Well deserved I suppose.
No , it’s not meant that way ( although some will )

But we are at a very difficult time in the clubs history and I’m damned if I think it’s “ just injuries “ or “ pridegate”.

Oh sure , we are decimated currently so I’m sure we can all accept the losses that are flowing BUT it seems to me that no one gives a ****.

100% They both have, 100%.
Dce has never ever had full support of the playing group and should never have been made captain. He divides fans and players alike, only have to look at silvertails to see that’s true. And divisive characters should never be captain. Captains should be universally liked, especially by the players.

As for Des, it’s clear from the past 4 weeks that he’s not inspiring the playing group. Look at the dribble in his press conference’s, is he drunk?? Imagine being a young player trying to decipher game plans? He should be quietly let go with respect for his past achievements but his time has come.
