Topic - rewarding mediocrity
I hear (many) fans moaning that selecting these guys - usually Parker Garrick, Croker, Jetski - when they haven't been successful, is rewarding mediocrity.

I say - promoting other players when they haven't yet bashed the door down and demanded selection by their performances - that is rewarding mediocrity.

If the current blokes are so poor, it should be quite easy to prove you are superior. Let form on the paddock earn you a spot, not just be offered a spot by default because you are younger and 'let's see what you can do'.

I support Dino Des and his selection strategy, based on his lifetime knowledge of the game. And yes I know the game is changing, but its still rugby league.

You make a good point

But when we keep selecting the usual underperforming players we reward complacency and we go back to mediocrity once again

Every player is genetic gifted and and when you compare some of our our players with the speed and skill of players in the top 8 teams , It is obvious why we are struggling

Great coaches inspire players to play above their weight and this has not been happening at Manly

Our only chance of winning is for Des to keep lifting our players and get them to play above their weight or recruit players that will do the job for him

You mean like Guaca getting man of match and never being seen again? Or Harper stepping in for last three games last year and actually showing some elusiveness out wide while Suli Parker and Garrick score six tries all year. ? You mean Davey clearly looking best in trial and being put behind the regular underperformer JetSki in round 1 and only getting a crack due to injury.You mean Sipley, a great performer before injury , not being picked for 18 months and being best on ground for workers in R1 while Boyle does nothing every week.

Look while he picks Garrick and Parker there is simply no doubt he has misjudged the new game.

Watching last night just shows how ridiculous those selections are.

I coach kids sport ( not RL) one thing i tell them is that if you want to play a particular position or grade is that YOU PICK YOURSELF FIRST. Then the coach picks you.
Im only going to pick players who have shown they should be picked in a position or grade by training well, doing extras and showing good attitudeand if they are in a spot that is not their favourite to perform well at that spot.

For too many coaches .... Coaching isn't about getting a group of players and making them into a better team and players ... it is about buying and selling players until you get lucky ..
