Have they always been weaponised for drug distribution as the 4 Corners program highlighted with the poor Polynesian kids in the Western Suburbs?

Maybe you didnt live through the 80's when the Vietnamese gangs such as 5T were on the prowl. I saw a lot of it because I worked for some time i the Fairfield-Cabramatta region. Drugs, extortion, violence, weapons. A wild period. Then there were the Lebanese gangs of Lakemba-Bankstown in the 90s For a time the Vietnamese gangs were in confrontation with the Lebanese gangs. Then there were the bike gangs in the south west. Remember the Comanchero-Bandido battle in Milperra. There's even a growing African gang presence in Sydney and Melbourne. That recent gang land shooting in the Auburn fitness centre, resulted in cars being torched, one almost immediately outside of my block of units on the street. Welcome to gangland Budgie

Definitely agree Bear, the only difference now is social media draws more attention to it, everyone has a phone, a camera and the means to share the news.
Maybe there is a little more sophistication in how they go about things, but the raw gang methods and madness are no different to years gone by.
Percentages of involvement probably just the same if not a little less, just have a bigger pool of with increased population to draw from.

Fortunately I'm blissfully unaware for the most part!

From the (very) outside it always seemed to me that, when it was about drugs, the supply chain always ran through the same ethnicity, whereas the 4 Corners program seemed to be that the kingpins were not actually Polynesian.

Either way, it's always poor, marginalised kids that the criminals or the church get their mitts on. They rarely have a chance to think for themselves despite their beliefs that that's exactly what they're doing.

Gangs are no different now than they were in the past, just a little better weaponized and some better organised. There have been notorious gangs of the past among the Irish, Italian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Romanians, Lebanese, Catholics, Protestants etc etc. Polynesian gangs are just the latest manifestation of such activity. Nothing new. 6th century Constantinople had one of the most vicious gangs in the Blues and the Greens. Peaky Blinders is just one English gang on TV based on an historical gang of Birmingham. Gangs have existed throughout history and usually get together as protection against others who threaten them. Sometimes the gangs are within single ethnic groups, such as the Assyrians in the Fairfield area in the 80s and 90s. Many of the members of such gangs will finally drift away and become stable citizens. Many will do goal time. Some will die. Human nature I'm afraid
I didn't say it was something new ... just something I hate seeing representing Manly

The assyrians were very dangerous in the Bronze Age too.

FYI that 4 Corners episode you are referring to is considered an absolute joke to anyone who has half a clue about how sophisticated crime syndicates operate. I mean it's not some low level thieves in houso's cliquing up - as the mainstream media love to punch down on those type as they aren't articulate enough to express their very real, albeit exaggerated accounts, nor do their actual issues ever get acknowledged or treated, perpetuating the concealment of much larger corruption and needless human suffering.

The "postcode" wars started back in schools during the 00's, from school and sport groups who would generally meet at malls, parks, etc for punch-ons against each other. There are many videos on YouTube from this time documenting this, especially within the Blacktown location. Then the other fringe subcultures like associated street artists... or graffiti vandals, who would throw up tags and 'cross' out other crews tags eventually got older and involved in more significant riskier things, like drugs due in to my opinion, the absolutely failed policy on drug education and use in the Western World - but that's a debate I won't start for all our sakes.

If you want a look at the real organised criminal syndicates, consider watching these:

In an entirely unrelated matter, in no way alluding or attempting to associate anyone mentioned within the prior video or any other persons, take note of a coincidental recent (23 Nov) story reporting the (twice) targeted firebombing of this journalist's home, who obviously has numerous amounts of people who would want him shut up for many reasons - if you choose to explore the topics he covers deeper, specifically corruption.

If you're focused on an obvious target, you're probably missing the real thing.

And yet the club's and hospitality/ casinos pressure each government to NOT toughen money laundering laws.
People who sell drugs to kids are the exact same ones who need to Launder money.

That's exactly what is described - the sophistication of the networks. Maybe they didn't watch it, too busy sophisticating or something.
And as for Jordan Shanks, dreadful that he had his house bombed, but I can take or leave him. Bit of an empty show pony to my mind. But each to their own.

I see what you have done, and feathered friend our guys you mentioned certainly ran roughshod over many, they were tough guys that played hard, however I think you downplay the downside of the current punk gangsters - the ethnic gangs that are rife unfortunately among young Polynesians they are not the tough hard men of league but bully gangs that would hide under the pretence of being godly yet carry knives that they are willing to plunge into another young mans back .... we don't need, and I personally don't want that type of gangsta playing for my club
When I talk about football footy Gangsters I talk about the Enforces on the field feathered friend

Nothing to do with knives and Guns but all to do with Intimidating and devouring the opposition on the field

Texting can be hard to understand sometimes and sometimes like this time we need to clarity and make it clear and now I hope you understand the right context

Now guys. Lets not gang up on each other

We are all for each other feathered friend
We are All for one and one for all for the Greatest club of all

We are one
But we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a Winning Premiership dream
And sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are proud and passionate Manly Sea eagles

United we Stand
United we Succeed
Go the Mighty Sea eagles
