Well George Pell got off (after losing his first appeal) so anything's possible. I wouldn't like his chances based just on the media snippets but as I've said all the way through, can't really make sensible judgments based on those. Fact is he is now a convicted stabber awaiting sentence.

Haha I don't know I don't think it has a technical meaning but yes has been used on occasion, maybe shorthand as a ground of appeal meaning the jury was too stupid to understand the evidence!!??

Im in agreement with @Mark from Brisbane - no point in saying anything until it runs its course. Plenty have been acquitted on appeal, and unless you are in the room its hard to form a complete and balanced opinion.

I will observe that those trashing so many players because of the "culture" (for want of a better term) they identify with are failing to recognise that they grew up with it, and still lived amongst it. It is very hard to extricate yourself from it - majority of posters here have been privileged enough to grow up in the white washed beaches, where by and large (apart from a few small pockets) this culture isn't as pervasive.

So yes - based on the current verdict (appeal pending) it is sad to see a young man tarnish his life, he is lucky that it wasn't a murder trial. But that does not mean he is beyond help.

I have to say, if I was on the jury & sat there listening to a bloke say it was easier to get back into the church over the rear wall when he'd had shoulder surgery only 2 weeks prior, & that he draped a towel over his head to soothe his headache, my initial thought would be "do you think I was born yesterday, mate?"

Did he wear the towel over his head when he went into the church hall the first time, before the dancefloor confrontation occurred? I would think not, as it would be pretty unusual & surely would have been mentioned in evidence.

So what happened between the initial confrontation & them being escorted off the premises to them returning & climbing over the wall? Did he suddenly get a headache?

Polynesian will continue to make up plenty of squad. Fainu made this bed he backed his gang members over the club.
We simply need to move on from him, we have given Api and a chance to recruit Brandon Smith. Let go of Cust also.

Don 't think that there should be too many issues with any fall out team wise . Different matter if there were some more current Manly players at the scene in the alleged group, including Manase and must have been some realization even on a small scale that things could turn out not so good for Manase with his closer acquaintances in the squad . Might even be a wake up call , though don 't think that any other Manly players from his maybe closer circle of friends have been having any conduct issues of any particular concern past or present in the Manly system . Jamail Hopoate was convicted with at least some of his siblings and likely acquaintances still in the Manly system and life went on . Would have been so much better if there was not such a long delay in the court and justice procedures and could have been wrapped up so much earlier to enable all concerned and the Manly club to move on Was surprised at the outcome , not too sure of any appeal ramifications but probably best for the club to be more at arms length . Get Latu ready as soon as possible for the big league and everyone to come to terms with and accepting the outcome of the again unfortunately very long and drawn out legal saga

A very sad case this one. I'm not going to get into whether he is guilty or not. Only he can know and the legal system and a jury of 12 has done its duty. Its the best system available. What is so sad is a young lad who has so much talent, has shown such discipline to reach the standard he reached, and through one apparent mad emotional act he has virtually ended his football career and all the work he has done over the years to reach that standard. We all make mistakes in life, make some dumb decisions, especially when we're young, but most of us dont lose everything we have aspired for. In this case I'm sure in his heart, if he did it, he regrets just how stupid he has been. Too late unfortunately (unless the appeal overturns the decision.. no comment on that one), but young Fainu is now going to have to have a deep soul search and hopefully find some other worthy reason for being, rather than risk his life going further down the toilet. Seen that journey happen too often.

Enough. For now Fainu is guilty as decided by his peers and will serve time for the crime of which has been found guilty. If there is an appeal that may be overturned and he may be found not guilty at which case everything said here would be embarrassing for some to peddle back on their comments.

So lets collectively move on to a new thread and keep it clean, above board and keep the racism out of it.
