Strong mail that Napa will go to the dogs to replace Klemmer. Roosters will then have money to sign Marty or afb

DES Hasler’s return to Manly has saved and prolonged the careers of the club’s big bopper front rowers Marty Taupau, Addin Fonua-Blake,Taniela Paseka and Toff Sipley.

Hasler will rotate the four giants as part of his 2019 premiership campaign.

The veteran coach arrived just in time — particularly for rookie props Paseka and Sipley, who were earmarked to be shipped out by a stopgap retentions committee.

However, the two have impressed the new-look coaching and training staff, with their attitude and performance in testing done early this week.

Hasler has effectively taken control of who comes and who goes away from any outside influences.

Suggestions that Kiwi international Taupau may be released have been quickly knocked on the head and problems with the impressive Fonua-Blake quickly sorted out.

However, Hasler will have to live with some players brought into the roster in the brief period between the end of the 2017 season and his signing to coach for the next three years.

EAGLES ON THE UP

THE mass return of Manly people to the coaching, training and performance staff at the Sea Eagles is a tremendous and much-needed boost for the club.

Manly was on a downward spiral and losing much of their culture and history in recent times but Des Hasler’s return, along with people in key positions who understand and are part of the club’s DNA, will ensure the traditions and standards are maintained.

Former premiership players Michael Monaghan, Noel Cleal and Matt Ballin are wonderful examples and will be welcomed around the organisation by players, fans and sponsors.

So too will head of performance Donny Singe, who understands the expectations of his head coach after being with him for two decades.

I have no doubts the football area will be in good hands. It is now up to the front office to show it can step up after a poor performance in 2018 where it failed to handle several crises.

Issues bringing the club massively negative publicity were allowed to drag on for far too long by management.

Hopefully, the performance of the team can inspire management to lift its game.

We have to get better
Fans, sponsors, members demand that: Gorman

SEA Eagles CEO Lyall Gorman has described 2018 as the hardest year of his professional career and declared the club had to get better.

“Our fans demand that, our corporate partners demand that, our members, our board and investors demand that,” Gorman said.

“So we have to be bigger and better and stronger, year in and year out.”

Gorman’s words come as the club embarks on the new Des Hasler era at Narrabeen.

“I’ve no doubt he’ll contribute greatly to raising the bar across the board,” Gorman said. “He’ll be a great coach, he has proven that already. He’s got this club in his blood.

“He understands Manly, he understands the DNA, the pride, passion and history of this club.”

Hasler has returned to the club after what was a disappointing 2018 campaign on the field and a dramacharged one off it.

“It was a hard year — the hardest year of my professional career,” Gorman said. “There were some things we were reacting to around the salary cap which took a lot of time away.

“Obviously, Gladstone did us no favours and we have to take responsibility for that.”

That was reference to the altercation between skipper Daly Cherry-Evans and teammate Jackson Hastings after a visit to a strip club.

Gorman said there were also on-field results where seven games were lost by six points or less and some games where the team conceded three tries in six to eight-minute blocks.

“We just have to get that out of our system,” he said. “And I think Hasler will bring some strength around structure and discipline that can drive us forward,” he said.

“He’s a man who will do every single thing he can to get peak performance out of every person, both on the playing field and his staff and the club generally.”

And Gorman said the Sea Eagles were listening to their members, whom he described as their best litmus test. “There’s a real sense of anticipation. They have an icon of the club back in the fold,” he said.

“You can’t survive as a professional sporting coach without that ethic of hard work and relentless pursuit of success. And Des embraces those things.”

‘‘Hasler will do every single thing he can to get peak performance out of

I'm a bit of a mad scientist myself in terms of YARTs, yet even I wouldn't tinker too much with our squad (till next year). Id change our forward rotation to one that promotes variation in the pack. And am fine with Api staying hooker for one final year of proving his worth. Here it is (more mad scientist version that normal but im liking it, method to madness).

1. Tom Trbojevic
2. Jordan Kahu (Was headed to Titans until they signed Kelly, cheap and stable, goalkicker)
3. Dylan Walker
4. Sandor Earl (cheap, potential)
5. Jorge Taufua
6. Kane Elgey
7. Daly Cherry-Evans
8. Jake Trbojevic
9. Apisai Koroisau
10. Martin Taupau
11. Curtis Sironen

INTERCHANGE
14. Mainese Fainu
15. Addin Fonua-Blake
16. Taniela Paseka
17. Corey Waddell (why not, 2nd rower, see nrl potential with him)

Main back up: Trent Hodkinson, Albert Hopoate, Moses Suli, Brendon Elliot, Toafofoa Sipley, Jack Gosiewski, Cade Cust, Lloyd Perrett and Tevita Funa | Additionally try sign Josh Aloiai, and make him the main forward replacer, could hopefully then make his way into the side, off contract next year but Tigpies might not really need him

Pretty good Harry.
I especially like those additions to the backline.
I would swap fainu for hodko though.

I think your 1, 3 , 4 combination looks good .
1. Albert
3. Walker
4. Tom
Albert is too creative to play on the wing and too much of a specialist fullback to play centre . Tom will make a dynamic strike centre and Dylan is a world class player in the centre position where he excels . The 1, 3 and 4 are the foundations of a premiership winning back line

Sandor Earl has been out for years and is pushing 30- no potential now. Joel T isn’t a middle player - best left on the edges, I’d prefer Fainu on the bench since we have a proper half next to DCE (no need for Hodkinson).

The point of conjecture for Des will be the backline - will we see Jorge? I think young Hoppa will make his debut by about mid season at 18yrs of age - same as Will did. Garrick might get a run if he is mistake free (something Des loves). I also believe we will have another purchase or two - at least one will be a back.

Good positive article but, just to be pedantic, Monas wasn’t a premiership winner, unfortunately leaving a year before our 40-0 hiding of the drizzle

Looking forward to a new era of rebuilding under Des .
Des will weed out any weaknesses that he sees . His experience as a premiership winning coach has taught him which players are required to take our team to the top once again .
By 2020 we will see the full affect of Haslers team .

Funny how Zorbs likes to bag the management team - wasn’t he a consultant to the club for last couple of years?

Fainu/Hodko can be interchangeable (didn’t really think about that spot too much, I’ll update it) Thommo is our toughest player so I’d believe in him doing just fine at 13, making a new purpose for that role not seen by many other clubs, would give us the variety we need

As for Taufua, whether we like it or not he’s probably a certainty to make the side, we simply don’t have enough backs to accommodate for him missing out anymore seeing Kelly gone. Agree on Earl, but then again could slot in Suli and have earl on the reserves trying to get his way back
