Lodge, you Monster

I'd rather just rip the band aid off when it comes to these ageing slow guys. Sadly we have re-extended Aloiai, which is a poor signing.

Lodge showed last night he isn't up to it when it really matters.

A firm NO to bringing him back for me.
The only game I can recall where Aloiai stood out as a fantastic contributor was against the Storm at Brookie this year. Outside of that performance, he has barely been a factor.

He was a good signing when he first came over from the Tigers because he was quick over the ad line and had a good bump. That's non existent now as knee injuries have hampered his acceleration. The guy has a pretty mediocre work ethic too.

Yes im actually shocked how much he has regressed. I considered him in our top two middles in his first season at Manly. Now he would be lucky to make our top 17.

LODGE EXITS EAGLES NEST

Matt Lodge is on the lookout for his sixth NRL club with the former Broncos prop set to sever ties with Manly despite a $300,000 offer.

Sport Confidential can reveal Lodge’s career at Brookvale is all but over after struggling to strike a deal with the Sea Eagles.

Matt Lodge’s time at Manly appears to be over.

Manly coach and former Broncos mentor Anthony Seibold wants to keep Lodge at the club.

Sea Eagles bosses have tabled a two-year deal worth around $150,000 a season, but Lodge is unlikely to agree terms as he weighs up other options.

Since his NRL debut in 2014, Lodge has had stints at Wests Tigers, Brisbane, the Warriors, Sydney Roosters and Manly but only ever found some stability at the Broncos, with whom he played 65 games.

At only 29, the hulking prop could play NRL for another five seasons and has been linked with a move to the Dragons.

Lodge has also been linked with the Knights, where his father-in-law Peter O’Sullivan is recruitment chief, but it’s understood the controversial enforcer won’t be going to Newcastle.

$150k a year, is that all we offered. It kinda says, good luck for the future and thanks for your service.

I'm kinda in the 50 50 camp on Lodge tbh. Makes you think the club might have a big forward signing all ready to be unveiled.
I hope you are on the money there, definitely need a couple of backrow forwards and a dominant type prop with Lodge on the go.

Or that was all we had left to offer him. It’s hard to see us signing a big name when we haven’t done so in about 8 years, and we’re now late in September and most players are already signed up somewhere for next year.

No issues with losing Lodge given he only played 12 games in 2 years for us. I do think injury free he could be one of our top 2 props and is worth more than 150k per year, but maybe the club thought they could get him cheap given we picked him up after the Chooks released him and then kept him around after he did his ACL. Probably a bit unrealistic given how his career has played out.

I haven’t followed Lodge all that much, why has he moved around to so many different clubs?

What we're now paying Ailoi to what we offered Lodge, just doesn't make any sense on what we saw in the last few games of the season.

I think the entire pack went missing bar Oka against Roosters.....based on that game, we'd sack them all bar 1.
He was ordinary though and certainly not the tough guy we needed to combat those cocky Rooster forwards who had it all their way from the opening whistle.
And through the season since coming back been ok....but that's it - ok.
I don't think he has been terrible, just not maintained that lofty input from his first games in a Manly jersey....personally felt pretty excited at the time and gave confidence he had potential to be a great "tough guy" type leader for 2 or 3 years ...
The first games he played at Manly in 2023 were Massive and he carried the team on his back, but what I can tell, these injuries have taken their toll and his ceiling has dropped even this past 12 months
Based on end of season form, he should be lucky to get a top 17 spot.....
