Lodge, you Monster

He will undoubtedly be re-signed I hope he keeps it up and this isn’t him just playing for a contract

While I didn't see the game last night, hopefully we can resign Lodge.
If we do manage to resign, I hope we can keep him on the field for an extended period of time.

While I understand he is not on the same money as Turbo, just out of interest, and without looking it up, how many games do you think he has played for us over the two season at Brookie?

Lodge has played stuff all games.

He owes this club so more games like this week that's for sure.

I thought Lodge led the way through the middle against the Dogs. Taniela had a very good game also but he is not a leader. Neither is Aloiai. Lodge is the undisputed leader of the pack. With these 3 guys and Brown and Bulleymore on the bench, we can back up the same performance next week against the Sharks. With no injuries and same team we seriously challenge for the title. With Turbo I think we go all the way.

Our best 17 can beat anyone, I even think we can absorb the loss of Saab thanks to the way Hoppa has come along this year.

Where we will struggle is in overcoming a side like the Storm who would be waiting for us the qualifying final if we are lucky to make it that far. They will be fresh and ready.

As he runs off-contract at the end of the season, Manly Sea Eagles front-rower Matthew Lodge has been linked with a potential move to a rival club.

Lodge, who recently returned from a bicep injury, remains without a contract for next season, and there has yet to be any indication that he will remain at the Northern Beaches with the Manly Sea Eagles.

Coming off a ruptured ACL injury in his right knee, Lodge was promoted to the Top 30 roster earlier this season after signing with the Sea Eagles from the Sydney Roosters on a train-and-trial contract that earned him around $1000 per week.

While it is understood that the Sea Eagles would like to keep him on the books beyond this season, Lodge has been linked with a potential move to the Newcastle Knights.

This comes as the Knights rebuild their roster following the arrival of new recruitment boss Peter O'Sullivan and have told several players, including Daniel Saifiti, Jayden Brailey, and Jack Hetherington, that they are allowed to leave the team before their contracts expire.

"Depending on what happens with some movements there [Newcastle Knights], we might see Matt Lodge potentially join Newcastle," The Herald's Adrian Proszenko said on SEN 1170 Crunch Time.

"Manly would like to keep him and they're open to maybe giving him another season next year but if there's another club that's prepared to offer him a couple of years then that could be something he wants to do.

"Obviously that place is getting shaken up with Peter O'Sullivan heading up there and doing the recruitment for them."

Lodge has a surprising connection to the Knights and O'Sullivan. The forward shares the same manager as coach Adam O'Brien and his partner is the daughter of the recruitment boss.

It also isn't the first time he has been linked with a different team for next season.

It was heavily reported that he met with St George Illawarra Dragons head coach Shane Flanagan about a possible move.

I personally think that the Cookie Monster will leave
Because other clubs are prepared to give him more Cookies than he is getting at Manly

Just a quick hit on Wiki...

2020 - 6 games ( Broncos ) ACL in pre season
2021-22 - 14 games ( Warriors) after mid season switch from Broncos
then released May 22
July 2022- 23 - 18 games ( Roosters ) facial fracture Rd 1
then released June 23
July 23 -24 - 9 games (Manly )incl ACL in August three weeks after signing

So two ACL's, a facial fracture, and a mysterious "paid out in full " release from the Warriors and not seen out a full season with a club since 2019.

Averaging less than 10 games a season over the past 5 and around 11 per season over his career

I can see why his manager would be looking for as much as he can get and why we may not be prepared or able to match anything longer than a one year deal.

Hopefully he can do a job for us to finish off the season whilst putting himself in the shop window.

Those games played per season don’t read to well, hopefully he can string a few games together and have an injury free season in 2025, he would be worth a two year deal for me still though, dollars are most likely negotiation point.

His father in law made him the Marquee man whilst recruiting at the Warriors.

From the outside looking in, that kind of conflicting interest, must get touchy for Lodge when players are getting cut, bloke aren't getting paid what they'd like. Or the club start looking in a new direction of recruitment manager.

I think Lodge would be well advised to have a greater degree of seperation and stay clear of the knights.

Too stay at MAN I'd take the risk on 2 year contract if the dollars also factor in the amount of footy he has missed in the last 2 years. But with his run of past injuries I just couldn't consider 3 years.
