Josh Aloiai re-signs until 2025

Funny how only the 3 stooges around will like your post hahah love their agenda against me. Another common chuckee W.

Block me, you really think I’m going to care that someone who doesn’t like hearing differing opinions will no longer see what I say on an Internet forum? You’re a joker hahahaha.

I’ve been fair in my assessment, like I said many times, I respect people for the humans they are. But you only want to pick and choose what people say and twist it.

Anyhoo I can’t wait to get back to the footy and respect all of our players. Like the good fans will continue to do.
Chuckee the only reason I said I previously wanted to block you is not because I don’t like hearing your ideas, it’s because the way you go about things.

I can’t control you but most of the times I see you jump in a thread and go at people for expressing their view.

You seem quite full of yourself but that’s only from what i’ve gathered in limited interactions online.

I know many people (myself included) operate more bluntly online than in person but it’s just the petty things like name calling and shaming that people could do without.

Last post you didn’t agree with people so responded by calling them miserable, as though that magically wipes away whatever they said and makes their opinion null and void. And now anyone who has a stance opposite than yours is a stooge.

Im sure both you and I have come across people in the real world that navigate in the same way and I don’t really see the need to be a dickhead to others on here like you frequently are. You are more pig-headed than most (at least online) so I don’t really see what you were getting at with saying I don’t want to agree with opinions.

I frequently backflip on topics and i tend to at least somewhat acknowledge when some people bring up decent points when going back and forth. Perhaps im overplaying it but you just seem to name call and resort to petty arguments

Can I ask a really dumb question ??

What does the club want / think they achieve by using this jersey.

Now , I’m not a homophobe , I have zero issues and believe people can choose to live any way they wish as long as I can do the same.

But , what goal do they have from doing this ( we assume it’ll happen again in 2023).
In all fairness Mark, you could ask the same question about the indigenous jersey. But the fact that it doesn't seem to cause the same division tells us that not all things are as equal as some may purport.

I'm sick of hearing about the whole virtue signalling world that this country seems to want to tie itself up in. There's plenty of social media platforms to flag wave your cause. Leave sports to just play the fu*king game, wear the fu*king jersey and shut the fu*k up about every single issue that the me too movement wants to involve itself in.

Yeah I sort of look at that one as celebrating the very large number of indigenous players in the game.

I understand that perspective but you could say the same thing for the dearth of Polynesian players. I believe the roots of the indigenous jersey are more based on inclusion. But I respect your opinion.

I’m sorry you feel that way. Maybe I come across that way online but I can assure you those things are quite far from the truth. Definitely not full or myself nor pigheaded.

I only reply in that way to people who write dumb and disrespectful things. Some people around here are hate-filled just because I and many others disagree with the club wearing a rainbow jersey.

Shouldn’t this be a lesson to everyone that sports and politics don’t mix? We are all manly fans but divided by differing political views, which weren’t an issue for 75 years. See where I’m coming from?

Budgie, I appreciate that. However, afaik, the rainbow has become more identifiable as a symbol of the LGBTQ community than as a symbol of the various races. Inclusivity & diversity symbols in rainbow colours are more like the ones in this link: inclusivity & diversity symbols - Google Search

IMO, this is an issue which needs to be resolved with common sense, otherwise, it could damage our club irreparably. Surely, the RLPA with DCE as President, can dialogue with the NRL to facilitate some type of compromise?

Many supporters of other clubs loved digging the boot into Manly over the jersey saga. If Penrith tried to enforce the jersey on their similarly religious Pacific Island players, there may be have been a boycott & probably some Manly supporters would have delighted in that situation. However, I think Penrith is too well run (premiers in four grades in 2022!) to allow such a situation to arise.

Apart from the ten players who didn't wish to wear the jersey against the Roosters, many of our outstanding Pacific Island junior players (including Latu & Samuela Fainu) would likely take a similar stand. Thus, it would be best if a solution could be found before the start of 2023.

I know the jersey meant a lot to you & many other people. However, the overall outcome was far from satisfactory.

All I (we) want is a successful footy team. The whole club, adminstration, marketing, football department, players (& supporters), need to be onboard for this to happen.
I agree. I actually had a good conversation with Michelle Taupau (I mentioned this at the time but without using her name because Marty was still at the club) about all this. She has done a whole bunch of stuff around education and promotion with the NRL and she believed the intention was 100% right and the execution 100% wrong. She thought that it should be a whole of NRL venture but would require lots and lots of education and consultation to get everyone on board which she thought was entirely possible with time and correct handling. She'd actually begun discussions with them.
I guess that's why I was a little sad at Aloiai's immovable 'not now not ever' stance.

And when people say the game shouldn't be political, it's important to understand that every superstar and sporting organisation has an influential voice in society by their sheer presence.
I guess sometimes people working within these organisations want to work toward a more harmonious society rather than one of stabbings, rape allegations, and pedophilia.
It's all in the handling.

He might have felt that he was being respectful and in that context I understand. Unless you understand what it feels like to be painted as different because you in their eyes are living a lifestyle that is a choice, shows me that you don't understand how hurtful words like his are.

I respect his right of an opinion. What we as a club need to do is learn from this debacle, because we cannot afford another episode like this. It was hard enough knowing that 10 of our players refused to play, to see our club not communicate with them and us not only lose that game but the season to fizzle out and now there are consequences for the coach etc.

I want guys who are committed to our cause out there playing. I want to be able to know that if a young fella who is talented enough and good enough to wear the maroon and white and happens to be Gay or Bi etc is cherished by our fans as Ian Roberts still is today.

Many lessons to learn from this fiasco and the NRL really need to take the lead if there is going to be a pride round next season!
I have enjoyed this whole thread and it’s help me understand my own shortcomings in believing I understood the complete picture of this complex situation

In particular Sheridan stand 78 , who have taught me a lot

BTW
78 was a great time to sit in the stand and sing the manly songs and just see how our support gave our team strength

Well done mate
Your a good bloke

And the Swastika is an ancient Hindu symbol meaning "conducive to well being" and was widely used in architecture throughout the Asiatic world .. however, I would suggest if you wore one on a T-shirt at the footy ... nobody is going to think you are spiritually enlightened ..
Wow LOL you’re an idiot 😂😂😂

I am glad that you have an open mind and have been able to understand the different points of view we have.

I learn from people in here as well and even the people I totally disagree with, I do respect their right to an opinion.

1978 for me was the most magical year to be an 11 years old Manly supporter. That season was a rollercoaster in so many ways and what that team achieved under extreme adversity will always be my favourite Manly team.

The atmosphere in the Sheridan stand where the Manly cheer squad occupied the bays closest to the hill at the old SCG were magical days for me. The singing, the amazing range of songs, the maroon and white streamers caught on the roof railings. The party atmosphere as the team achieved the impossible will rank as some of the best times of my life so far as a supporter. This is when I truly fell in love with the club and that love was permanent after that year.

Thanks for your kind words, It is nice to know that in the heat of debate we are able to be respectful an civil and BTW you are a good fella too!!

This has been such a divisive issue here on Silvertails, and for the club.
Whilst the intentions may have been good, the club handled it so so poorly at the time.
There is no simple way to make it up to those who felt so let down by the stance of some players and on the other side of the coin those that support those players in their beliefs.
There has been a few on here that have shared their own experiences of hurt and alienation and I think it's so important to do, so thank you for opening up.
It's good to hear that changes are being made to the structures in which the club are making decisions so that the players are kept informed.
There is still however a lot of work to be done by Mestrov and his team.

An “Everyone in League” jersey with a “Gotcha For Life” patch on one side of the chest, a “Women in League” patch on the other & 2 rainbow hoops.

The rainbow hoops were the hill these clowns chose to die on.

They couldn’t have made their medieval attitudes any clearer.

Okay. So you do realise that the term homophobe gets thrown around very weightlessly?
I don’t care whether Johnny down the road shags women or is into blokes. If he’s a good person, he’s a good person. I judge people for who they are, not their sexuality. I know plenty of people who are and I respect them as much as I do anyone else. They’re humans.
Claims “homophobe” gets thrown around weightlessly, throws down “the left” thinking it’s an ace card 😂😂😂

Ahhhh yes the old “homophobe” line. One of the few weapons the left have in their armoury.

Cry about it cherry_floggins. You’re the same bloke who always **** cans the club. You should go support netball or something.
