Jamal Fogarty

That was a sarcastic response to being labelled as such earlier in that thread by I think SER8. But I like to think I am still a teenager at heart. Or perhaps I am a time traveller. I do recall seeing Johnny Bliss score a length of the field try at Brookie back in ‘51, so who knows.
Fair enough - i was worried I had glitched out for a second there

I dont mind the signing , i think Fogatry is good value.. But what i dont get is this ..We have 2 gun halves that are meant to be ready in 18-24 months time to take over. We sign Fogarty on $2.1m over 3 years when we 1) we could of offered the $2.1m to DCE over 2 years anyway.. as good as Fogarty is , he isn't as good as DCE imo, 2) we could of signed Humphreys way cheaper for 3 more years they boy was already here , he never wanted to leave...theres a 40 min interview he did with the Johns boys on a podcast stating as much , and when nothing came to fruition along came uncle Wayne... although at the Moment Fogarty is better than Humphrys

So he's "gutted" to be leaving Canberra but it's purely a business decision. So he's not chosen Manly because he wants to play here and he's coming for the money only. Yep as I said a few weeks ago this will be a waste of money. We won't be getting his committed best and it'll be more of the same results. We could've saved half that money for a young half and spent it on a decent #8 or #9 or #12 , #13.

He’s a professional. Be very surprised if he doesn’t turn up every week. Plenty of players have changed clubs for money and still delivered.

Media BS..seriously

Firstly the Raiders had an option for 1 year at over $650k.. with ratchet clauses it may have been around $800k.. that's why the Raiders didn't automatically tick off on the 1 year extension..
So they think..we will sign him for less.. Manly then step in and offer $600 k for 2 years... Raiders **** themselves and match the offer
Manly offer $650k and 3 years
Raiders offer $650k and 2 years as they have "ready to go" halves in the next 1 or 2 seasons.. we do not.

So quoting him saying his "gutted" is normal. He's been there 5 years.. and that's what you want to hear.. he's committed.
He obviously had a hard decision to make.
And it's laughable that last night on 360 they say..good on Canberra sticking to their decision.. 2 years is all they need.. well they obviously wanted to keep the bloke.. they matched us on 2 occasions trying to make him stay..
They should have ticked off the 1 year extension even at $750/800 k he was massive value to them.
I think they dropped the ball on this one and Ricky's mates on 360 doing a smother job.
On the same episode they talk about south's signing Dodd for $750, Sullivan for $650 and then go on and say..
"Oh.. halfbacks are the main guys they are all on $500+ minimum"
So Jamal at $650 is a bargain
And he will be invaluable towards the end of his contract with the younger halves.
Have faith Mickqld

1.3 million for Brooks and Jamal.
Opens up a lot of options
That's basically what DCE was on.. 1 player..yes a good player but not worth 2 spots..
He's basically won nothing whilst he was at the helm
The premiership he won was off the back of an already established team of champions.
I would be happy to handing over 1.2/ 1.3 mill a season to DCE if he delivered at least 2 premierships over his 15 seasons as our main man.. he hasn't
And that as our Halfback, organiser and captain was his job!

So technically he failed. End of story

100%
Has delivered donuts since 2011 aside from a few team controversies.
Club gave him millions, wanted to give him two more years to take slight unders and he cracks it.

Some people live in the past. They're all professionals these days, they don't care what colour jersey they wear. Some end up with a fairytale career at a club they love but most are looking after themselves (and fair enough, clubs churn through players like a mincer)

Interesting comments by Paul Crawley on NRL360 regarding Fogarty signing for 3 years to Manly.

The Canberra CFO Furner and Stuart are long term and cannot afford to screw up their salary cap in 3 years by signing Fogarty for one year too long. He said Canberra were smart in only offering a 2 year deal, as they have juniors coming.

Who knows what will be going on at Manly in 3 years. 😂

So very true, Mestrov and Spoony taking a very short term view on the salary cap as they probably won't be there in 3 years.

Crawley said is Fogarty and Brooks going to win Manly a premiership?

Fccuk me.
So what would your preferred plan have been? Galvin? He will demand huge dollars, and we can't compete with the Third Party Unlimited clubs. Don't we need to make a cap saving to recruit forwards? Open to other ideas. I agree Fogarty and Brooks are not elite.

Offer him 2 years only with a club option for a 3rd year, if he is good enough then.
In hindsight, should not have let Humphreys go - but for whatever reason Spoony didn't rate him.

This is the difference between Manly and the Roosters.
Uncle Nick has torn up the contracts of a few players they signed but had reservations leaving their current clubs.

Manly offered more $$ and an additional year to sign a guy that doesn't want to play for Manly .
Not too much wrong with saying he loved his present club and wanted to stay. Canberra made their decision, which suited our recruitment. We don't have any elite players queuing at our door.

I believe DCE and the Roosters has been cooking for a while. We were never going to sign him for 700k. The three years is good business. If either or both our young hopefuls bash the door down, I don't imagine Jamal will be hard to move on. Other clubs will bite. Besides, I think Large might be playing centre or fullback.
