Jamal Fogarty

I hope we don't get into a bidding war. Turbo to 5/8 is worth a punt if Fogarty becomes too expensive. No point throwing the kitchen sink at a guy who won't be part of our long term plans.

I don’t mind it. Brooks will be off contract end of next year and I’d imagine won’t be re-signed. Three years doesn’t particularly mean 600 a year for three years. It might mean 500 a year for three years which in my eyes is a decent deal. We aren’t signing him for his running game so age isn’t a concern and he started first grade late which makes me think he hasn’t quite peaked yet. I still think Walsh will replace brooks and Onitoni can play centre. He will certainly have the size in a year or two.

By no means do I think we need to get into any sort of bidding war. I also personally believe Ricky is the type of (take it or leave it coach) but I don’t think Turbo to #6 is the option. At least you can build a game plan for the season around Fogarty, at the current rate you can’t rely on Turbo to finish a game. It is also so deflating once he does get injured.

I genuinely believe Turbo needs to be our #14. He can cover anywhere in the back line and no one else in the competition can provide more impact than him at his best. it will also help preserve his body playing only 30/40 mins a game. I almost see Turbo as a prized quarterback now, just bring him on when we need him. If we don’t get Fogarty we just need someone basic to steer the team around that we can build a foundation around. If DCE goes to dogs we could even look at picking Sexton up on the cheap.

I’d prefer two years but the reality is halves mature in their mid to late 20s if ever at all. Large isn’t even old enough to debut this year. You also need depth and who knows, maybe Fogerty will end up being the depth signing in 2028 with the other two stepping up. The club can’t put all their eggs in the basket of two untried rookies, one of which is not even old enough to debut yet. They could both end up being nothing…one could end up doing a knee tomorrow and never be the same player.

We have to be OK next year before we worry about being OK in 2028. There’s a lot footy to be played between then and now.

Silly decision,if true and the Raiders plan of increasing their offer, allegedly, has worked and has shown how weak the current recruitment division is at Manly
100% agree....
This is Ricky helping out his mate to get maximum dollars and the club has been sucked right in. Another bidding against ourselves all over again like they did with Schuster!

So we're now pushing Walsh and Large to look elsewhere. What a clusterfu*k club
Nah. They're still kids.

Silly to sacrifice the next couple of years while waiting. Though I'm sure that's what our current halback would have liked.

FYI

Tom has played 156 NRL matches in 11 seasons.

Fogarty has played 102 NRL matches in 9 seasons.

Apparently he's fielded a $2.1 million offer from someone, and there's three other clubs in the mix. I don't think we end up with him, even if we're the most publicised.

I think Onitoni may be ready to go next year. Brooks has been doing all of the kicking recently anyway, might be a long term strategy. Will be a pretty ugly combination until Walsh is ready.

Maybe Manly are thinking early release for DCE with his destination club paying $600k freight, which covers Fogarty’s 2025 wage, then another 2 years at $500k per season thereafter.

That frees up ~$1m for 2026 & 2027 (had we extended DCE) that can be spent on a new prop & backrower.

If we continue losing games the drums beating for stripping DCE of the captaincy & releasing him early will beat even louder & something will have to give, eventually.

With the dearth of quality halves around I can’t believe we are only ones in the market.

Parra just showed how important a quality halfback is which is also bad news for the Knights as they bought the dud.

That's just Manly bidding against ourselves. We're experts at making ourselves pay overs for mid range players.

I can’t comment on his time overseas because it’s a completely different competition and I dont watch it enough to make comments. Public resources suggest Fogarty has played around 60 games since joining Raiders in 2022 compared to Tom’s 38. Placing a contingency of around 5% for rep duties still puts Fogarty at around 20 more games since returning to the NRL. Still not great but considering that he is already a half and will assist in compensating for the kicking game left by DCE I’d personally prefer him in the halves over Tom. Don’t get me wrong, Turbo is 10000% a better player and on his day unstoppable but I just don’t personally like the prospects of him at #6 especially with Brooks at #7 doing all the kicking.
