Jake T.

Jake is a great leader for Manly, in fact is often "the glue" that galvanises the team.
But in reality, if this was not a Manly supporter site, I reckon many on here would not pick him if they were selecting the NSW team.
Personally prefer to just see him play his usual wholehearted performances for Manly in 2025

However, speaking at the NSW Rugby League’s season launch, Daley refused to confirm Trbojevic would remain captain.

“You’ve just got to see who’s in the team first. You can never anticipate anything in this game,” Daley said.

That is reasonable

Then there is this

“I thought Jake did a terrific job (as captain). He’s a very passionate leader, the boys all love him, and they respect him. I’m sure if Jake keeps his form up this year, there’ll be no reason not to pick him.

If Hass is fit, he takes one spot, Lenui gets another almost guaranteed, Yeo will be 13, think Barnett will be lucky to make the side this year, if his form is good enough the bench is an option, Stefphano and Loireo will be in the mix, would think Lindsay Smith will be a walk up, possible starter with Hass, Liam Henry would be my smokey, pending his comeback, really hard to see how Jake gets a run this year, I guess form, injuries and availability will be the big one, but there’s some solid competition for the blues front row this year, then there’s Thompson, form could dictate, Paseka, May and others, Laurie has plenty of options up front.

Stefphano and Loireo will be in the mix,
I don’t get the Stefano love… not you personally @Rafferty … I mean the fuss about him generally…

I have not seen anything from him that makes me think he is at Origin-level… May and Lindsay Smith would be well in front of Stefano for mine (and I think Jake gets picked in front of them)… jmo…

The article lost all credibility by suggesting half a dozen players who could take over as NSW captain but forgot to mention the current Australian Test captain, Yeo!

You raise an interesting point SER8…

Lots of commentators carrying on like Cleary is the natural choice for NSW captain BUT…

Yeo is his co-captain at the Riff (4 straight premierships),

is the incumbent Aust captain (World Cup winners), and

virtually carried the NSW pack in the last series (when they won from 1-0 down and clinched it AT Suncorp)…

so how the f—- could you pick Cleary over Yeo with a straight face?

Maybe they end up co-Captains or else I reckon Yeo is the natural pick…

Yer I don’t get it with Stephano either, no doubt his a quality player, his name was thrown about last year, I think under Bellamy and the Melbourne system he will take the next step, he’d be very handy off the bench.

Smith’s pretty much a walk up starter and I think May will have a huge year, he’ll be the leader of the Tigers pack, very different situation to the chooks, just feel it will suit him to be away from the expectations and culture at the Rorters.

It might seem like I have no love for Jake, that’s just not true, his a legend and a champion bloke, but the speed of the game is killing him and the quality of players on the verge of rep footy are going to make it very hard for Jake to earn a spot in the origin side this year.

No I fully take your point with regards to Jake but I think his defensive impact (particularly in the early stages of games before the forwards start to gas out) is generally underrated…

I too would love to see him find his offload again and I recognise there are faster forwards but Jake is a monster in the centre of the park and I will not be surprised to see him named at starting prop for Game 1…

Did anyone notice the excellent ball service from Jake when he jumped into dummy-half in the first half? Just saying… 😄

I think he played well yesterday, even bent the line a few times. He's looking fitter, actually the whole team looked fitter. Saab just needs to get his hands fit.

Saab just needs to find his groove. He hasn’t train with the team the whole offseason and will take a few weeks to get his eye in. He’ll come good.
