Who do you think will be coaching us next year?

I am one of the many hoping we sign maguire ahead of cartwtight or Henry.... the only concern i have is if the rumour is true that we are his third choice and not his preference

Is Todd Greenberg running scared that if we get Maguire then we could be a very good team next year? Is he trying to make it difficult for us to get Maguire? Why announce this in the middle of the grand final week when the focus should be on the grand final teams? I smell a rat. He must really hate us to do this now after having many weeks to do it before this week or after the grand final.

Hi - long time member but first time post. Brissie boy who played a bit of footie over the years including A Grade in Brisbane before the Broncos existed and a Qld High School rep. Manly supporter since 73! Anyway for what it is worth - my view of the big announcements next week will be - Madge is coach and will be signed for three years - they have agreed on a payout for Barrett, Cartwright will be Assistant and Matty Ballin might have a role, Centre of Excellence will be funded if Coalition returned in NSW, other vacant roles will be filled once Maguire is in place. I have no inside knowledge but also don't believe the Penn's are running this club to run last. We have a damn good squad with a few subtractions and additions. Letting Blake Green go was a shocking decision before Pearce was signed sealed and delivered - the Gladstone debacle derailed us and showed Barrett was just too inexperienced to handle that and he essentially let the players have free reign up there. Those two key mistakes ruined the season and the Salary Cap issue was just the final straw to decimate moral. Not everyone was on the Barrett bandwagon - some were - some were not - if all aren't rowing in the same direction the boat sinks and then when injuries hit we were goners. Barrett had to go because he did not have the full support and confidence of the players. I still think he will make a decent coach at some club. But yes not all doom and gloom like some of you on here think. If Maguire coaches - watch out - he wont take any crap and this will be a hard edged side with some steel to add to the attacking brilliance we have in spades. My two cents worth anyway. Thank you for the enjoyment over the years reading everyone's posts - I thought it was time to not just be a watcher but be a contributor.
Excellent first post!
There seems to be more and more Manly supporters up here in SEQ (I am from Sydney Originally but moved to the Gold Coast 6 year ago), it should make games against Titans and Broncos more and more interesting.
I have been going to Suncorp to watch the Eagles religiously since moving up here (painful I know) but that game at the double header was GOLD!!
Whatever the Penns announce, It will need to be an absolute improvement on the crap we had least year or the Burleigh Bears at Pizzey Park in the QLD ISC will exceed the crowds Manly generate at Brookie!,

In my opinion he is the only decent bloody thing at the club ...... given the **** he has had to cope with over 3 years the club would be in a much worse situation if he hadn't kept the playing group together ...... He is the only one with any character in the place ...
But Woodsie,
He just can't coach.
If it was a nobility competition we'd be up there. But it's not.
His results are sh*t.

Awesome first post mate.

Maguire is no chance after reading what he said in the tele. “Ultimately, it’s the people involved in a club and the ambitions and desire of an organisation to be successful that appeals to me.”
That's his quote when talking about Brisbane job so that rules us out as the people involved with our club have no ambition or desire to improve.

Thank you - I never go to Suncorp to watch the Eagles - reason being is that I will get into an argument for sure. Last time I actually went I had kids sitting in front of me waving a huge Broncos banner in front of my face all night and in the end I had to ask the parents to stop them because I couldn't see a thing lol. But yes I would get into an argument for sure - I don't take kindly to someone taking the piss out of me and they would for sure if Manly lost. So better watching at home with no grief and no brouhaha lol

I agree but don’t forget it was in the Tele. So it may have been a quote from 12 months ago. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Well if you were a top line coach it would be a great destination , a 25 million centre of excellence , unlimited TPA’s, richest club in the league etc etc!!

BUT

They love their Queenslanders and he ain’t one!!

Maguire wouldn't touch us with a 10 foot barge pole. He'll wait out Bennett then move in 2020 to donkeys as any coach would. He's already said he's not interested in basket case clubs.

I wonder when this quote was taken from.
I recall Maguire saying the exact same thing on Fox 360 or one of those shows about a month ago. Wouldn't be the first time a journo recycled quotes.
Edit: Apparently from yesterday. Doesn't look good 🙁

Either way we desperately need some good news - ie. Coach being basically anyone but Barrett or Cartwrong
