The latest from the Lurker

Who's coaching Manly?
Cameron Maguire: Who's coaching Manly? Bennett?

The Lurker: They wouldn’t pay what he wants - the Penns are cheap. And he wouldn’t put up with the ‘third world’ resources or crap roster. Cartwright will get the gig.
The lurker says in that comment that we have a crap roster yet a few lines later he says we have a good roster He cannot even be consistent

Any sunshine for Manly?

Ruben Bayn D: Is there light at the end of the tunnel for Manly fans or are the Penns banking on relocation?

The Lurker: They aren’t going anywhere but until the Penns open the purse strings, they will continue to struggle. Good roster but working with poor facilities. I can see more and more games being moved away from Brookie.

Says it all about the lurker ....... class A ****wit

Dean Ritchie was on the BSB this morning and they got to talking about Barrett etc. They asked Ritchie if there was any news on who is coaching Manly next year. He said it is complicated and they cant really do anything until they resolve the Barrett stalemate (mentioned it might end up in court). They then asked who was the favourite and he said still Cartwright.

Yeah, but he's probably part of @Mark from Brisbane good old smoke screen theory ....... I'm hoping he's on the money. No I am praying the smoke screen theory is real.

As Ritchie also said, whoever the coach is they need to know within the next two weeks. You cannot come back for Pre-Season on November 1 and only have a few weeks planning under your belt.
Absolutely, I bet the other bottom 8 clubs and even the top 8 clubs have very clear plans about what is happening for their off season. It puts us behind from the start.

Absolutely spot on mate. This is what has me most worried about the delay in appointing a coach for 2019. You would hope that moves are being made behind the scenes and planning is already ongoing while everything with Barrett is sorted. Or given the year we have just endured that may be optimistic!

I would expect this will be sorted quite soon. The longer it drags on the more bargaining power Barrett has as Manly can't leave it too long before they appoint a new coach and have players knowing who it will be. This probably works in Cartwright's favour given the settling in period would be minimal.

If I were the Penns, I would offer him 50% of what he is asking upfront and avoid the courts - that should be enough for him to take it and hopefully won't see this thing drag on any longer.

Greater good Scott, greater good.

They should be and you'd hope they are but hard without a first grade coach? Unless, that coach knows that they already have a job e.g. Cartwrong and has already started the planning.

Bulldog Ritchie said on the radio this morning, (for what it's worth) he thinks it will end up in court. Penn wont pay him out and Barrett is on leave, having completed his seasons duties and will most likely turn back up when training starts and work out his resignation.

Back in Penns court now.

If that is the case then Cartwright must be the new coach...no way they could let it drag on to Nov 1st if they have plans to appoint someone else.

My contact said 2-3 weeks, a week ago!!

I’d expect an announcement by the end of this month at the latest if he’s on the money.

The issue with Barrett may not need to be resolved by then to proceed ahead.

Look, I agree with most it’s probably Cartwrong as what was I was told might happen is something I have a good deal of trouble believing.

The only thing is @strone33 heard the same thing and I’d say from a different source , so where’s there’s smoke there’s fire!!

As the silvertails ambassador for #nextweek do you have any faith in that 2-3 week timeline mate?

Again, how dumb is a contract clause that allows the head coach to leave during a season :banghead:

Baz should have finished 31 October at season end

I am sure it's Cartwrong but you gave me a glimmer of hope with the "old smoke screen" theory and I'm gonna cling to that small glimmer of hope until he is announced and then once Cartwrong is announced I'll cry like a baby for a week ....... him as coach is the worst news we could have apart from something else.

Agree, what genius of a CEO / Owner would ever put that in a contract? Only at the Sea Eagles ........ do we get our CEOS from NOVA employment (no offence to NOVA employment meant).

I’m sure you’re right too BUT the glimmer of hope is there , and percolating!!

Why are we expecting the club to become super professional in the next 2-4 weeks? They haven’t made one positive statement since Gorman came on board. The ameuteurish approach will continue. Most likely scenario is Cartwright as coach, some fringe signings, a recruitment manager/director of football. We may lose 1/2 of Taupau and Walker and we may replace them with an established first grader. I have no inside info but based on past 12 months this has to be the most likely scenario.
