Is Turbo rocks and diamonds

Personally a massive fan of this talented youngster.
Some of his attacking runs adding to a sublime ball for Thompson to score was both exciting and that of a player up with the best talents in the game.
His tendency to add critical errors to these freakish plays in many games is concerning, as he has the ability to be an all time Manly great.
Watching these issues unfold there are 3 things apparent.
1) The best fullbacks communicate all game from the back, directing their front line like a general with the best view in the house - Tom talks occasionally, but the best as in Stewart/ Slater are constant - making their own game accountable by keeping them in it, plus gives the front line needed direction.
2) His positional defence though improving still gets caught out.
3) Often lacks urgency getting to the ball and hits the after burners when he can see the opposition closing in, rather than getting their faster, this puts himself under pressure and at times appear clumsy which could’ve avoided by giving himself more time by getting on it earlier.
Confident he will eradicate these few problem areas and forfill his potential as the gun player we all know he can be.

Kelly is under utilised becsuse Trebojevic runs him too wide and cramps up the play or has no idea how to ballplay through the backline. If turbo straightened once and a while and fed him the ball he would be killing it. Everything Kelly does thst is good he's usually created himself.

Stewart was smaller like slater that moved around the field with ease and very rarely found out of position. You look at most fullbacks in the nrl are like this , that can get into position without to much effort . Tommy seems to struggle here maybe because it takes the big unit time to get going (afterburners) and this is where he is often late or found out of position . He is a brilliant attacking weapon but has to work on his positioning. I still think he would make a brilliant centre and yes i know that he woudnt maybe get as much ball or get involved as much , but when Jamie lyon didnt see much ball on occasions, didnt take away the fact he was a still a champion.

He is 21! For f#cksake! Everyone wants him to be slater or stewart its ridiculous. Best player we have along with his brother and with both about to be in origin I don't see how he is a rocks and diamonds player as Fitler won't pick those players. And lets stop the calls of moving him to centre as its not happening because you don't move the best attacking fullback in the game. And to those doubting his communication, go to a game and watch and listen. I went and watched the Raiders game last night and Tom was very vocal, in contrast Jack Wighton was not.

He's a gun, he just needs to cut out the Hail Mary pass or grubber after a break.
That break he made last night down the left edge late in the second half, I think it was the 4th ? He should have taken the tackle instead of the grubber.

He was great last night. That Sezer kick was brilliant, if he’d picked it up cleanly he would’ve been bundled into touch in all likelihood.

Anyone watch Slater last week? He was poor, but to listen to people on here he never makes mistakes and is perfect week on, week off.

Snake was a brilliant player, but there were games when he was kept quiet and hardly sighted, especially in his early years. The TT detractors would have you believe he was man of the match every week.

Some of the criticisms are absurd (not directed at Maxta, valid points raised in the OP).

@maxta is not having a dig at young turbo but addressing some obvious things that he can strengthen in his overall game management. He is just a kid and very talented player at that. I wouldn't say he is rocks and diamonds; maybe crystal and diamonds at worst. For those that say he cramps the backline with those angled runs, he's still making great metres with those runs and is for ever searching for a break in the line with his pace. If they come off and they invariably do we would all be praising him for it. He's got plenty of time to develop his game and I think he's worth every cent we pay him.

He is diamonds for me, with the bonus he will get better.

I initially thought that with SOO coming up soon, he was trying to hard last night. Went himself when possibly a pass was the better option.

Needs a stronger handshake (that's right Tom, I remember) but happy for him at the back for the foreseeable future.

Yay Tom

You got me 100% Spartan - certainly not a negative summary....simply feel he is only a few area's away from being that Top shelf fullback we know he can be and often already is....I think ppl took it a 50/50 % good/bad, but that's certainly not the case, if he simply talks more, shows more urgency to get to those kicks I feel he will be IN the game a bit more.
At the moment he lights up the stage and then leaves the room....if his presence is there for not only his team mates, but for himself all game, it will help big time in smoothing the rough edges.

To be fair on Tom, that last kick he had to deal with was expertly placed and he should have cleaned it up and he did make a mess of it! He has too many errors in his game like this and as a young player, he will improve. The fact is with five minutes to go we were in control of the game, attacking their line and we could not come up with the play to finish the game and we paid the ultimate price!!!

This. Too kick happy of late.

He has dropped down the list to 3rd in errors across the NRL.
His brother remains clear leader for penalties still

Diamonds. Another cracking game. Always a threat. Shame about the knock on at the death. Was a brilliant kick by Sezer.
I look at it this way , Brilliant kicks need brilliant returns and from what I saw the indecisive Tom Turbo had the hippy hippy shakes all the way chasing the kick . I like Turbo and have high expectations of him and the quality of the kick chase play was not high quality . He was damaging with his runs though .
Just my opinion

Ponga is 19. What is your point? He makes far too many mistakes for a first grader.
