Sadly we couldn't match the 500k that Wests were offering. And a LOT more expensive.
Do not forget that thing called , the salary cap.

Exactly , it’s a pity as we well and truly supported the Fainu’s and brought them through the system BUT at the end of the day big $$$$ proved more enticing.Sadly we couldn't match the 500k that Wests were offering.
Sam wanted out anyway, with the Tiges offering Latu the same deal.chose not to match the money.
Despite spending years doing the development, on all of them.
It seems to be a bit of a recurring theme at the moment.

It’s just a pity that people on here don’t quite get how the salary cap works.
You must have 30 players , and you have to allow for bringing players up from reserves when you have injuries ( and that needs to be included in the cap ).
We have quite a few very expensive players , and a lot on fairly big money , so when you take those into account and you still need another 20 players you just cannot afford superstars or potential superstars who want superstar money.
Everybody knows how the salary cap works. The club could of matched it if they wanted too and reshuffled in other areas. I mean we did bring in 4 or 5 players over the off season. It seems at times the only people who don't know how the salary cap works are the club. Paying massive and long contracts to players that continue to Hamstring the very thing we are talking about. And not one of them has offered up their value in said contracts. And don't get me started on the Schuster saga.. the means for samuela to stay were definitely there. Salary cap working and all. Now I'm not saying he should of been given a lifetime contract (which seems to be the norm at manly) but we sure as hell could of done with him this year at least. ( which he was contracted for as well I might add).Exactly , it’s a pity as we well and truly supported the Fainu’s and brought them through the system BUT at the end of the day big $$$$ proved more enticing.

We also could of let burbo go as I think he was coming off contract at the time. But clearly that won't happen due to obvious reasons. The same reasons we have waddell back at the club. Conflicts of interest perhaps?? Who knows
Starting with the debuts of Scott and Brett.Manly has had a penchant for letting certain families have too much influence at the club in recent decades.
Yep!Manly has had a penchant for letting certain families have too much influence at the club in recent decades.
I dont really think the fainus had to much influence, other than being brothers. The same with the hopoates despite all Johns efforts lolYes.
Then Fulton Family Enterprises.
Then the Fainu Felons.
And now the Really Nice Family.
The question is would we be happy paying 1mil a season for Samuela and Latu on a 4 year deal (unsure of any ratchet clauses and performance clauses.
Its a punt that may pay off for the Tigers, still very much in the balance though.
I wonder if samuela will follow?? If he doesn't then we really have no excusesSamuela is a big loss. Latu not so sure, last I heard tigers were trying to punt him.
Especially that samuela is coming along nicely at the tigers of all places. Imagine how much he'd flourish elsewhere, or better yet, here stillletting Sam fainu go with a contract in place was a diabolical decision, there is no way it can be spun to make me think otherwise
Watching him and Weekes approaching their potential at other teams is depressing as hell.
We have little in the way of up and coming talent and I can’t see any reason for it apart from incompetence and cap mis management
