How much of a roster rebuild do we really need?

Hi all

I had some thoughts on what line up Manly could possibly have for 2020 and maybe what player we could target for 5/8. I know we desperately need a 5/8, Powerful tall strike winger and I think we should let Walker go after this year because lets face he hasn't played enough footy for this $600,000 salary..

My line up looks like this..

1. Tom Trbojevic
2. Corey Oates or Jordan Rapana
3. Euan Aitken
4. Moses Suli
5. Reuben Garrick
6. Chad Townsend (Was reports not long ago he could be forced out because of the cap)
7. Daly Cherry-Evans
8. Addin Fonua-Blake
9. Apisai Koroisau
10. Martin Taupau
11. Joel Thompson
12. Curtis Sironen
13. Jake Trbojevic

Interchange

14. Manase Fainu
15. Jack Gosiewski
16. Corey Waddell
17. Toafofoa Sipley

Now I haven't really thought to much regarding back row and front row but all depends on how much money we have I guess..

Let me know what you think...
Chad Townshend is pretty ordinary and has a rubbish haircut to boot.Oates and Rapana are great players, but I can’t see des outlaying the sort of money they would want for wingers. Aiken is a great runner, but his game awareness needs work and cannot read attacking raids at all. Also a selfish player who passes less than suli.

I’m hoping Thompson finishes up this year, don’t think he has much game at all anymore, although was a great put down on the weekend. Too much arm grabbing and running at markers for mine.

I think we can do better with the players we bring in.

We've had some muppets run out in the Maroon and White over the years but you always manage to find a way to cheer for them. I don't think I could find that way if we signed Grubana, not many players I find less endearing in the NRL than that angry, grubby piece of work.

Nice looking side.

Serious? Workers have someone similar to Mitchell/Inglis? Let's look no further.
I know that you are a little tongue in cheek, but Davis is a serious player, tall, strong, quick and can play 1/2/3.Was a top try scorer and goal kicker in Intrust cup last year,he got suspended for the drug issue affecting Williams I think and will be back mid-year.If he has learnt from his lesson(IF)he might be a real contender....he also has NRL experience with Titans and Eels.

Funny how people want Oates but not Jorge,Oates has serious issues with defending high balls and drops plenty,he also has trouble picking up low balls on the ground. He can make yardage from his own half yes and can score a try.Hold on,that sounds like Jorge....?

I'm glad someone else thinks Townsend woukd be a good fit. Pretty sure he is only on 450-500k at the sharks. I'd be happy to pick him up for 600k. He is very underrated

I'm surprised he didn't kick on even before his dramas at the eels. When signed from the titans, at the time he should of walked into the fg side at parra imo.

Yeah, but this is Parra that we are talking about, sometimes I wonder if they have anyone who knows what they are doing.....He was ripping it up last year, but Arthur did not pick him, maybe says something about Arthurs' ability to judge backs(I don't think he has much idea)he knows a lot about forwards though....

Some will definitely go and some will come in,but do we really need a major overhaul, personally think we should stick with developing some guys we have and make sure we can afford to retain later on when they will cost more...potential side for next year...
1 Trbojevic
2 Garrick
3 Hopoate
4 Walker
5 Suli
6 Cust
7 DCE
8 AFB
9 Fainu
10Taupau
11Waddell
12Sironen
13Trbojevic
14Koroisau
15Gosiewski
16Sipley
17Boyle
Add in Elliot,Funa,Anderson,Metcalfe,Elgey,Paseka,Croker,Olakau'atu,Schuster and Keppie and that gives you a pretty decent top 27 players.Guys like Aukafolau,Miski,Dockar-Clay,DeLuis,Saunders are impressing in CC who could be added into that squad.Potentially Walker could be gone and would replace like for like with a quality player but all in all a squad I would be happy to stick with....one guy I would like to see us pick up is Dean Britt(son of former dogs prop Darren),really good second rower with the bunnies, more of a no frills type, but a goer with some attacking skill and not getting a go with Bennett.Gets involved, has an occasional offload and works hard in defence.
You have a very sound football head my friend... one of the very best on here, that’s for sure. You don’t blow your own trumpet, (the goodun’s rarely do) but you certainly have some great foresight when it comes to the game and those who play it.

Actually - that brings to mind the fact that Funa has been firing since he came back from injury (from what little I have seen)...he's another one that should be added to the mix. I really can't think of an area that we desperately need to strengthen next year. Maybe a backup hooker if Api goes, but I would be happy enough to see Docker-Clay in that role for us.

Funa, Hoppa and Docker-Clay to potentially have an impact next season. We are looking very good.

 30,000 Manly supporters =
I wonder what % thought Walker was never a 5/8 =??
What % of support for 5/8 would he have now =??

It’s noticeable that Walker has changed for the better
No longer the sledger/stirrer, ( encouraged by Trent I might add) it seems like he has resolved to stash his ego tripping ways (wise words from Des no doubt) and just focus on the details of how to revive his 5/8 aspirations
How’s this for a prediction ? Walker daily m 5/8 2020
Thoughts :sweating:

Whats your opinion on Bailey simonson from raiders? Hes big strong breaks tackles has a good play the ball and from what ive seen good under the high ball..

It has been really impressive how quickly he has re-adapted to league again after coming back from union. He is a really good second option as a fullback too,he started on a train and trial contract and has quickly become an NRL quality winger.Doubt we could afford him with Taufua and Garrick re-signed as well as trying to get Funa/Parker/Hopoate re-signed for the future (with Elliot and Suli also on the books),if we could afford him then would love to see him here...
