I agree but I also don't think we have seen the best of Sironen yet. Hopefully (!) he stays injury free.Lane was looking likely last year but alas...

I guess big is subjective. Fine tuning for mine, is depth signings. Big is replacing a member of the spine, offloading a marquee player in Walker, moving on a club stalwart in Taufua and chasing a marquee prop. I also think Boyle comes under the "power" forward, rather than worker. He is huge. I'm talking about a player in the mould of Alex Twal or Aiden Tolman; I am not saying we should sign either player, I just mean a lean, mobile forward who gets through a ton of work. They are important in tight games. When you have big power forwards, they struggle to defend for long periods. They did a remarkable job yesterday but against really strong teams, they will get found out eventually. For me Boyle,DeLuis and Saunders fit the bill for more workmanlike guys,an organizing half yes,but would like to wait and see how Elgey and Cust go before chasing one,if they don't fit then O'Sullivan or Townsend would fit the bill.Walker or a replacement is a no brainer. As to the big winger,I would love to see how Nathan Davis goes when he comes back mid-year from suspension with workers,he is an NRL calibre winger/centre(similar to Mitchell/Inglis).What you have mentioned doesn't translate to big changes, sounds more like fine tuning?
Schuster and Hopoate are the key ingredients missing...and maybe a return of Will Hoppa if Walker is moved on
The next Gifty if things go to plan for us. Skilful player.Schuster is a ball playing back rower

Great post @Smokin Joe . You have made some very good pointsSome will definitely go and some will come in,but do we really need a major overhaul, personally think we should stick with developing some guys we have and make sure we can afford to retain later on when they will cost more...potential side for next year...

Add in Elliot,Funa,Anderson,Metcalfe,Elgey,Paseka,Croker,Olakau'atu,Schuster and Keppie and that gives you a pretty decent top 27 players.Guys like Aukafolau,Miski,Dockar-Clay,DeLuis,Saunders are impressing in CC who could be added into that squad.Potentially Walker could be gone and would replace like for like with a quality player but all in all a squad I would be happy to stick with....one guy I would like to see us pick up is Dean Britt(son of former dogs prop Darren),really good second rower with the bunnies, more of a no frills type, but a goer with some attacking skill and not getting a go with Bennett.Gets involved, has an occasional offload and works hard in defence.
Problem with lane is that he isn’t scary, and his defence is too weak/lazy for an edge imo. Has some ok line running but lacks attacking structure, often throws very strange offloads that are risky. He’d be a perfect player for the crazy warriors back when Shaun Johnson playedLane was looking likely last year but alas...
I think Tapau still looks like a wolf lost among sheep.
He has the size and ability but seems to have forgotten how to use it.
I love those types of players. hard working back rowers that never let you down. jake is exceptional, but with Thomo on his last year would love a player like Josh Jackson in the back row. Hard working 80 min player who barely has a bad gameA strike centre and winger would do me. I see jake eventually moving to prop and allowing the likes of waddell, olokatau, schuster to come in the backrow with sirro. Wouldn't mind another experienced hard working forward too though.
Keppie might be that player... I’ve not seen enough of him to judge it, but apparently he is a big, rangy hard-worker. Nothing flash, but defensively strong.I guess big is subjective. Thinking about it, we might not need to buy that winger if Albert Hopoate lives up to the hype. That'll leave more money to spend on the half and prop. I think this prop thing is a bigger problem than most people realise. The losses that we had in rd.1 and 2 were a direct result of too many power forwards. We gave away ball and kick poorly, which gassed our big men and we couldn't recover. We just need more of a balance between the body shapes and styles.
You definitely need workers in the middle no doubt, but not sure about a marquee prop as a worker, those sort of guys tend to come a bit cheaper(Des in the past has picked up cheapies and depth guys from other clubs as those sort of guys). We have a bit of money invested in front rowers at the moment and might have to shed someone more than Perrett and Tanginoa to afford a pricey worker type.Personally think guys like DeLuis/Saunders/Keppie can fill that type of role and whilst yes Boyle is big,he has a big motor and is more a worker than given credit for.I sort of like the way Des has been moving Jake to prop and bringing on Waddell and Gosiewski to work the middle defensively(maybe not as much go forward but probably waiting on Paseka to come back and Boyle to fully recover/regain fitness.)Anyway,it is an interesting time to see how things pan out......The doggies used a similar tactic with their forwards on the weekend and it worked a treat, whether it continues to be a success for them is still debatable.(and us I suppose)I guess big is subjective. Serious? Workers have someone similar to Mitchell/Inglis? Let's look no further.I would love to see how Nathan Davis goes when he comes back mid-year from suspension with workers,he is an NRL calibre winger/centre(similar to Mitchell/Inglis)
