Canberra Raiders star Jack Wighton has retired from representative football, ruling himself out of Origin contention in a massive blow to the NSW Blues.

The 30-year-old has played 10 games for the Blues across the halves, centres, and off the bench, making him an invaluable member of the NSW side.

The Brisbane Tigers have launched a $25 million bid set to rival a Cairns-based Pasifika franchise as the race to become the NRL’s 18th team heats up.

The Tigers are one of rugby league’s oldest clubs with a 106-year history and have this week lodged their expression of interest with the NRL.

The famous club, formerly known as Easts, rebranded in 2020 and was behind the Firehawks expansion bid which lost to the Dolphins.

Tedesco has been getting noticeably slower for at least 12 months but suddenly after Origin 1 its finally being publicly acknowledged.

This guy had his contract extended by Chooks while he was Test captain and 'best player' so obviously still on big money. Now they've also extended JWH and Tupou, and still have Keary on contract. Dad's Army, lol

The Chooks started this year as premiership favourites but they are sagging and despite the new big signings next year those old blokes will continue to take up a lot of their cap. They could be in for a couple of rather sad years.

In fact I will confidently predict that at least one of those big money soon-to-be-has-beens will develop some mysterious injury or medical condition and the NRL will grant a medical retirement. I should have added Crichton to the list, not old but on a big contract and isn't playing well, and his future as a real star may now be under a bit of a cloud.

What a grubby player McGuire is, was a cheap shot merchant playing in the NRL and now i see he's carried on the tradition into the Super League.
